The first meeting was not very orderly. Yelling at the presenters never will go over well. The HISD police were supposedly there and they did nothing to demand order. One can only assume that is what they are accustomed to on their home campuses. I doubt that they would be respectful of Dr. Morath, if he were to come.
They are not teachable . They would need to learn how to behave correctly while being taught. I taught in the suburbs of HOUSTON and in small communities surrounding HISD. The first thing we go over is my rules and behavior. I never had issues. I am soft spoken but, I do have a silent lion living within. We she comes out with a roar the kids are quite surprised and do get quiet. Like I said I teach them how to behave and I don't play games.
I was RUN OFF as a teacher from a Houston school years ago! I was an AWARD WINNING MATH TEACHER, who was well liked by both students and parents. That didn’t matter because my principal was erratic but had a friend on the school board so she was allowed to act like a dictator. The real problem is sub standard leadership, so I’m on board with the takeover. Consequently, I have since won more awards since leaving! 🙄
Yep, I was run out of another huge school district in Texas too. The job was described to me, (50 students at a time) but I was desperate for the job, so I took it. Big Mistake! I never went back. I was doing my internship year, but never went back. TEA kept asking me why! I told them my story of being a teacher in the public realm and I still don’t know if they got it!!!!
Yes, Houston's schools are failing badly. So many Teachers are very underpaid and have stopped caring about students. Also, the darker kids run crazy, fight often, and lot of daily violence.
I watched some of the response video until I just couldn't. On one hand they point out that HISD is one of the largest landowners in Houston after saying that they have a funding issue in the same conversation. To me, this is not a funding issue. I pay more than twice what I paid for a mortgage when I lived in another state at a larger house on a bigger lot before I moved here and they still managed to educate children there just fine. I think most teachers care about our kids and I don't think they are all getting paid enough, but it isn't because taxpayers aren't paying a premium per child in our area. The money just isn't getting managed properly so if there is a change in leadership when it isn't working, maybe that isn't a bad thing. I was a bit disturbed by some of what I heard some teachers saying regarding race and whether or not parents should be able to send their children to private schools, etc... Whether it be private, public, or homeschool, shouldn't it be about what is best for each child? If they are sure they are doing a great job as a teacher, they won't have anything to worry about because people will want them to teach their kids, even when they have other options, right? The fact that they want to fight this and tell people to not comply makes me question why they are in the teaching profession if it isn't to help the kids as much as possible. Am I missing something here? This doesn't need to be a political issue and it shouldn't be about race either. I am all about helping less advantaged people but we need to quit pretending that they don't come in all races and we need to start acting like Americans instead of a bunch of different tribal groups who can't get along.

TEA is a joke. That's just how it is. I put my kids through private schools for a reason even though we really couldn't afford it. It's all about making choices. Texas education is a joke. I moved back for college and had to take all the state exams like staar on a Saturday with 1 week notice. I was surprised how easy they were.
That’s what’s shocking. Too many students can’t pass these basic tests and there are adults trying to become teachers who can’t indicate they would be able to pass the class they are teaching because they can’t pass the license exams.
The failure is on the parents and admin to discipline children, making them unteachable
This is the reason I have told and many people I know have told about teaching in HISD. It is a chance one takes when applying.
Open your eyes 👀 thanks to Trump and the lockdowns of schools not only Houston schools are behind

Houston has some of the worst schools in the country.
From bad to worse 🙃
Schools doing bad and blatt ✊🏿🏀
School are doing bad not only in Texas but everywhere else too, because of the covid lockdowns but now the governor is going to be a bully like Trump
Ever since JJ entered the board, it’s been a mess
Get rid of corrupt districts! More than half of property tax revenues go to the ISDs.
I would have to disagree with that.
Eliminating corruption in the ISDs is the only reasonable way to lower your property taxes, which are well over 2% in some places!

So are plenty of other schools in the country! Also, the lighter kids are all smoking meth and turning into crackheads.

What are some of the obstacles facing the disctrict, the schools, the classrooms

All the funds supporting student from illegal immigrants .
Illegal immigrant funding is going on in border towns also. Abbott would need to address that.
