- In this video I'll show you the easiest way to migrate your models and radio settings from your old OpenTX color radio to your new EdgeTX color radio. This technique will work for any color screen to color screen radio conversion and it should work for black and white targets as well; however, I have not tested.
UPDATE: At 3:30 in the video, I mistakenly referred to the MKII as the MK1. The BLACK RADIO is a MKII.

Hi, thank you for the video. I had to convert models from a Jumper T16 to the Radiomaster TX16S MK II. The copy & paste of the RADIO and MODELS folders method didn't work in this case - the Tx just said the files were invalid and didn't convert. I downloaded EdgeTX Companion from your link and managed to open my old Jumper OpenTX Companion .otx files in the new EdgeTX version. The new Companion did the conversion and I could write it to the Radiomaster Tx. And then needed to tweak the radio settings afterwards. The models imported fine. Thanks again.
Hey, I'm in the exact same boat but can't quite figure out what you did to convert the Jumper T16 files to work with the RM TX16S MK II. I tried opening the model files in EdgeTX companion with the "read models and settings" and then exporting the models as .yml and then copying those files to the SD card on the TX16S but it still only shows one default blank model in the models list. Am I missing something?
@@flipfpv Hi, I installed the EdgeTX Companion and then opened my last OpenTX Companion .otx models file in EdgeTX companion. It did the conversion in software and showed the list of models as per normal. I then connected my Radiomaster Tx via USB and used EdgeTX Companion to write the models onto the transmitter using the "write models and settings" button.
Some transmitter settings had to be fixed on the transmitter itself afterwards - I just followed the Radiomaster TX16S initial setup video's for that (battery voltage calibration, etc).

@@christowepener2698 Thanks a lot, really appreciate it. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me, not sure why. I ended up letting the Jumper convert the OpenTX models during the EdgeTX firmware update and then copying those converted model files and Radio folder over to the TX16S SD card and then updating the EdgeTX firmware on that radio and it finally worked!
My X9D has problems, the sc card has no models on it, but I have .otx backups, I would like to convert them and add to my new TX16s, my fix was as follows, thought u might be interested..
On EdgeTX Companion, opened the latest .otx file from x9d backups.
Still in OpenEdgeTX with the tx16s connected, I wrote the files to the Radio (tx16s).
Had no indication of a conversion ?
But it worked then all 30 files in tx16s were in .yml format ...
Then saved from EdgeTX Companion to BU folder.
Pretty pleased 😁
Have an audible warning to sort ?
Next is to flash from v2.7 to v2.9

I have a big problem, I am trying to convert my models / setting from Radio Master TX16S OpenTX v2.3.15 MAX (about 2 years old) to Radio Master TX16S EdgeTX v2.10.1 MKII. When I follow your vid. to the letter i.e. delete from TX16S EdgeTX (Images, Models, Radio) and replace with TX16S OTX (Images, Models, Radio), then remove the USB cable I get the following error message: Large exclamation point in a red triangle "STORAGE WARNING missing or bad radio data". The only option is to "Press any key to skip". When I press any key I get the message: Large exclamation point in a red triangle "STORAGE WARNING storage preparation". "Press any key to skip". If I remain on the "STORAGE WARNING storage preparation" for 5 minuets nothing happens. I have about 18 models that I fly. Post attempt to convert the models and settings, when I look inside the TX16S EdgeTX MODELS folder, on the TX16S EdgeTX, I see all the .bin models (18 of them) and only 1 .yml model. So obviously the conversion did not go. What to do, work arounds, other approaches??☹
Side note, I also moved my TX startup splash screen and that works, I see my color pic. when the TX starts up.

John, thanks for the quick response. I resolved by reverting to v2.7.1 adding models / setting / sounds / etc and let it convert. It worked. All 18 Fixed wing, 4 Multirotor, and 1 sailplane were converted and it looks like all my switches and settings work properly. Then I update to v2.10.1.
One more thing. I tried to use my RMTX16S MKII EdgeTX v2.10.1 with one airplane this morning. The TX is not connecting to the RX (FrSky X8R). It acts like the RX and TX are not bound? My new TX16S has a 4-in-1 Multi-protocol module. I updated the tx to: • Multi-Module MPM mm-stm-serial-aetr-air-v1.3.4.0.bin which is the latest.
I have an Align T Rex 500x with microbeast plus, I'm using a DSM , Kinson satellite receiver.. I have a radio master TX16S mark 2.. I'm new to this. Can you make a model video . As I do not know how to make this work for collective pitch helicopter . I just need straight normal mode, idle up 1 and idle up 2. straight 3-D helicopter with Tail gain. Please 🙏

Is there any special process to moving just models from OpenTX to an EdgeTX Radiomaster TX16S MkII that I have already my own models added to? I didn't think I'd be revisiting the quads connected to my Jumper T16, but here we are haha.
Related side question; Would CRSF models bound to an external module show up in the models folder as well? Or would it have its own folds since it's an external module?

I cannot get my Lumenier TX16S EdgeTx to convert my .bin files to .yml. I have tried several times and it just doesn't work. I moved my models from Taranis X9D OpenTX . I am running Firmware 2.6 on my TX16S.
Discord would be the better place to work this out. Did you look on your SD card for a file called models.yml in the models directory? Do you see any .yml files in \models or
adio?

I have recently completed a new plane and in set it up in the new radio. So yes I have one .yml file in my " Models " folder. Everything transferred over from the Taranis X8D Plus SE 1979. I am using Companion 2.7. My Firmware is 2.6.0. just can't get the TS16 to convert .bin files on boot up.
I recently converted from OpenTX to EdgeTX and i really appreciate the work you put into this series. I have a special request after not finding it already amongst your tutorials. How do you create a Template? ...and once created, how do you recall a template to use for binding to a new aircraft? It would also be good to know What happened to Open TX and what generated the creation of EdgeTX?

HI, great tutorial, I tried this conversion from my old Tango 2 (running freedomtx) to my new Zorro (edgetx). It said it was bad data once I'd copied it all across, and didn't give me an option to convert :( DO you know if there is an online solution I could use (to convert) before re-entering all 30 models I have please.... EDIT, just found your other video using companion.. fingers crossed...

i have an Edgetx 16s set up with models. And I have a OpenTx set up with models. I would like to select a couple models from my OpenTx 16s and move them to the EdgeTX 16s. I don't want to be deleting folders fromt the EdgeTx 16s. How do I simply move selected models from the OpenTx to the EdgeTx 16s?
Couple of different ways to handle it. Two quick options:
1) Backup SD card. Delete the models you don't want. Copy to new SD card. Convert to Edge. You can restore your back to the original SD card.
2) Use Companion. Open models from OpenTX radio. Delete what you don't want, write to EdgeTX radio.
@@RCVideoReviews I did #2 and it converted the OpenTX models I wanted, but it deleted all the exisiting models on EdgeTX. I'm trying to simply add a few OpenTX models to the existing EdgeTX model portfolio.
2 still applies. To keep your EdgeTX models, open them in companion as well. Copy your OpenTx converted models from their etx doc into the etx doc from your EdgeTX radio. Copy paste from one window to the next to combine them.

You didn't say how many channels you need and whether or not you want a gyro. Check out FlySky RXs, Lemon RXs, and the FrSky S8R or S6R.

Great radio choice. Have fun with the swap. Make sure you have a backup before you start moving stuff around.
I'm on EdgeTX 2.7. Is it not stable enough and that's why you used 2.6?
2.7 is fine. The radio shipped with 2.6. 2.6 is also important because that is the revision introducing yaml.
Are you able to still use open TX companion to program models in edgetx? I assume no but I'm not aware of a companion for edgetx either
You cannot use OpenTx companion on an EdgeTX radio. This video literally has the links for every version of EdgeTX Companion in the description.

Can I use this Futaba R7014SB 2.4GHz 14CH FASSTest ?

Most mainstream protocols are supported; however, Futaba is limited to the SFHSS protocol.
Any D16/D8 protocol rx will work as long as it has ACCST firmware (not ACCESS). Radiomaster R168 is a good choice. FlySky ia6B Rx's are good. Lemon Rx's are good.

Considering upgrading to this radio from the Taranis x9d+ using open tx, have models and sticky switches settings etc on it, will this process work in the same way?

Yes, the core functions translate cleanly from OTX to ETX. Not sure how much longer this will be true. The only real conversion issue I'm aware of is the loss of model page setups. So you'll have to go back and reset your widgets on migrating to Edge. Not a problem upgrade from Edge x to Edge y.
Hey, I finally got the TX16s max. Now to get switched over😬.
I took the SD card out my Taranis and backed the contents to a pc file. In the models folder and others there are no files/models on the card Taranis card!
Should I need to back the models up first from the Taranis to the card? I noticed the models files and functions were already showing on your SD card content!

Hi Sir, I'm ready to get Radiomaster tx16s MK2, can you explain me what is the difference between style 4 in 1(protocol dependent)and ELRS (transmitter power is adjustable).? Please and thanks.
ELRS is a lora based protocol with some limitations around output. It natively provides crossfire out, but can also provide PWM and SBUS with adapter boards. It will only communicate with ELRS receivers.
4in1 is a Multiprotocol module. It will communicate with receivers from a very long list of manufacturers. Most important among them IMHO are FlySky, DSM/DSMx, Futaba, and D8/D16.

If you don’t use ELRS receivers don’t get the ELRS transmitter.

You should be able to. I don’t have a QX7 so I’ve not tested but an OpenTx binary should be consistent across platforms aside from hardware variances (switches etc).
@@RCVideoReviews ok, just models is all I want actually, basically a noob with this set up qx7 yrs ago with several quads and planes , finally upgraded radio and I'm lost with tx16 and getting models set up. Lol not much out there on 2.7.1 wizard for some reason cant save models after I spend all that time settling them up. Go back says zero models , different got to learn it.
Thanks for the video and clear step by step migration. The new TX16S v2 is a very nice upgrade from v1 but I was holding off on migrating over until I was sure of the process. I don’t think you mentioned it in your video but will I also need to rebind my receivers to my models once I’ve completed the steps in your video?
Since the bind is to the MPM and the MPM is different, yes, you have to rebind. I avoided this by switching the MPM from the MKI to the MKII precisely because I didn't want to rebind everything.
What is MPM? I followed your video, will I have to rebind?
Multi Protocol Module. Are they the same in the MKI and MKII?

Great overview as usual. I'm trying to move models from my Taranis X9D OpenTx 2.2.3 to a brand new Jumper T-Lite V2 (ELRS) running EdgeTx 2.7.1 ... but there's no conversion happening I'm afraid. The only change I've made is to set the default channel map to TAER on the Jumper (to match my X9D). Also tried with a X9D model from my temporary upgrade to OpenTx 2.3.15 but no success there either. There's no RADIO folder on the Taranis SD Card so I didn't delete the corresponding RADIO folder on the Jumper as I had noting to replace it with. Any pointers appreciated :) Thx
You might need to read your models/settings in on Companion first, then flash, and write models and settings back to the new radio from Companion.
@@RCVideoReviews Thanks for the reply :) I ended up manually building a new ELRS model on the Jumper T-Lite. Didn’t take long in EdgeTx companion. I’ll just use that as a template for other ELRS models that I migrate to the jumper.
