      Beautiful but birds don't like deep water, closed areas. Your bowl needs to be wider and shallower.

    very pretty but , birds prefer a shallow dish to bath and drink from , the 1 you have used is to deep , better to use 1 around 1inch deep

    Very pretty. I guess your video popped up because I just posted a new bird bath I made. I started reading the comments curious to see if you get the same sort of comments I get. I watch birds bathe in water filled filthy pot holes in the road and I get comments about how I shouldn't use plastic or certain glues which aren't even in the bath part. I'm giving the birds a fresh water option. I see you get the same crowd. Well, I appreciate you taking the time to film how you made this beautiful bird bath. I don't think people appreciate the time and effort that goes into sharing videos on here. I understand and you did a great job on this video and your garden is beautiful.

      I think it’s beautiful. Don’t forget to put rocks in the bottom of the bowl with the water so that small birds can sit on them. I have an antique bird bath that I want to do done repairs on and get it up and running.soon it’s going to be fall pretty soon and I’ve been talking about getting it up for the birds for several summers. I thought when I retired I’d have plenty of time. You inspired me to get off my butt and get it up and running by next weekend for sure. TNRNJANICE

      Like you, I got comments about painting or gluing, etc. I watched birds bathe in a mud puddle in the middle of a gravel road in front of my house. Giving them a clean fresh water option every day is a better option.

    I noticed you have a dog in your video and you should be aware that Loctite is extremely dangerous to dogs. It's not poisonous but if your dog eats it, it can cause problems. Also the top bowl is too deep for birds and doesn't offer a way for them to escape if they fell inside, like a rock or perch. While it's very pretty, it can be fatal to the lovely birds you're trying to care for.

    • @mwsmith6209

      Another way to get a steadier birdbath is to use a large plate on the bottom, but place it upside down. I’ve seen others do that.

  • @hollylc9914
    @hollylc9914 5 місяців тому +1

    Great idea with the light, I'm definitely going to do that. Plates upside down for me since I live in mosquitoville but I like the birdseed tray option. Easy fix for a perch, just add a pretty rock, figurine, small candle holder or bud vase. Your color choices are lovely, thank you for sharing your ideas 😊

    Lady I'm sorry to inform you... Having that big old punch bowl on the top can cause a bird to fall in and not be able to get out and drown.... Birds fall into bird baths quite often.... You need to have Rocks so they can stand on to get back out.... You would have been better off filling the top up with colored stones..... But overall it's a lot of hard work to keep clean and not contaminate the water..... Your birdseed at the bottom could get contaminated with the moisture of having to change the water.... You would have been better off with three-tier bird feeder..,.. even putting bird seed at the top they can also fallen headfirst and not be able to get out.... Plus putting it on the ground will entice cats....

    I have made several bird baths. E 6000 and glass plates work much better. I am always checking good will and resale stores for things that will work. I like to use something for the base that will hold a little water. Turtles and bunnies appreciate that.

    I have a few 5 gallon containers full of water and every morning there are drowned little birds in them. I’m looking to make a bird bath, but I see that if I’d put a deep bowl full of water, it would defeat my purpose. A shallow dish may be a great choice and will save my birds from drowning. I really liked your idea and I’ll try it, but with a shallow bowl, thank you

  • @umbrellaproduction

    For future reference, maybe you'd want to build the pedestal part individually and then glue it onto the ground mount after the ground mount is hammered in. That way you could make sure that you get it lined up well and straight.
    Also maybe make the top basin wider and shallower so they have something to actually bath in. It's a little bit narrow seeming. Rocks could also be put in the bottom for perching
    Is the adhesive you are using nontoxic?

    Is the glue non toxic to birds/wildlife? Is it waterproof? Very pretty though. I bet it made your garden look gorgeous. I tried a bird bath without running water, but I found out the birds actually prefer running water on a shallow dish. That’s when I started using a pump and they use my baths all the time.

    Oh wow...how cute! As somebody who has done something similar; please take this advice with a grain of salt LOL. Just trying to save you some trouble! If the weight of the bowl on top is already heavy, perhaps you shouldn't have glued it to the candlestick base. This way if the water gets yucky or you want to wash out the bowl, you can. As you have it, it is all glued together even to the base, so you can't tip it to clean. Something else I noticed, you should have been able to remove that silver pipe from the solar light. it wouldn't have mattered how far it sunk down into the vase because the top of the light sits on the lip of the vase. No need for using tape. And if it didn't twist off, I've used a small hand saw and cut them off using hardly any effort. There it is...my two cents! And you have a majestic garden. Something tells me you don't live in the south. My garden would never be that green and beautiful with this hot, Texas sun!

    • @Jkaye13

      Great advice to not glue down the bowl to allow for cleaning/ emptying and changing the water!
      I think l would have just set it on top of the plate and took out that top candle base that it’s on.. l think l would like it a little lower.
      Great tip!

    Look like the birds will drown in the big bowl. Birds like a nice shallow bowl or something, like a rock, to perch on to drink or bath. This would be more appropriate as a fish bowl.

  • @Jolo97
    @Jolo97 11 місяців тому

    It's a great idea but for 1 the bowl is way to deep. Birds are afraid of deep water. 2- the adhesive maybe toxic to the birds even after it dries. You added seed to the plates also again might be toxic to the birds. You mentioned alot how it will look cute but my question always is, will it be safe. Lovely idea great work but I would go about it cheaper & safer.

    how do you clean the bowl when it gets dirty? Also, why pound the post in the ground when you could just put it on a brick? You spent about $75 on this and a regular birdbath would be cheaper and easier to maintain. The other thing, why glue the solar light in the vase when the batteries don't last very long?

Same way keeping an open bucket of water can cause a bird to drown and die.... That bird bath needs to be very shallow and even then put some Stones inside....
