OMG. I found this artist on pinterest like months back and was a fan ever since. I wanted to do an artstyle study of theirs and even PRAYED that someone would make a video about it so it would be easier for me.
I clicked this video because i saw HSR characters and i didn't expect that i would be helpful for me since i started doing digital art weeks ago. You gain yourself a new subscriber.
Hello! Wonderful video. I have some insight that might help you. I am not Muli, but as an artist I can recognize when some techniques are being used. for replicating the airbrushed look, try filling out a soft flat color (especially for the hair), alpha locking it and then air brush using a softer, less saturated, more grayish color. This technique is seen in their drawing of Sparkle (hair) and in their drawing of Firefly (dress). The inbetween color should be more a saturated version of the darker color you are using. Then using your brightest color, pick a hard/not opacity brush and use that for some harder edges. Their art especially stands out in the very pale and bright skin colors, that is similar or the same as the color of the eye sclera. I would recommend you do a study without color picking from the reference. Try to eyeball them, with maybe emphasis on making them brighter than you initially think, since you explained your initial study looked dull. However keep in mind that the more pale colors contrasting with the bright reds and dark cyans are what makes the colors look so good. It's easy to get dwelled in the eyes of the characters, so I recommend you focus on drawing them more in perspective rather than adding all the honkai star rail obligatory details. Coloring them as flat color might help! Maybe you could also try pushing the contrast in your values since that is something Muli does very well (for example in the dark black hair vs the very pale skin or white clothes). Super sorry for the long comment. If you want more advice on studying style, feel free to reach out to me XD (4lmog on disc). Your video was wonderful! I really like how you explained every step and it's always incredible to see artists try to be like the artists they love.
Omg this is so underrated! But thank you!! I actually have no idea what the first thing to digital art is for doing traditional art for more then half of my life and it helped me a lot!
Really love watching art style study videos that YT recommends these type of stuffs, but dang didn't expect to find an underrated gem like this today. The video is so good!
This whole ordeal was so relatable, thx for sharing your struggles and frustrations sometimes I forget oder artists have those too lmao- stay safe and have a nice life 💥💛🌻
i've been fan of this artist since i found them on pinterest months ago, i finally know their name (Also this video helped me to understand better their technique tysm)😭😭😭
oh thank you so much for this video! i love mulihao's artstyle, its so beautiful and similar to some of my goals in art. very informative and relatable video. 6:15: THE STRUGGLE IS REAL. IM TELLING YOU. THE STRUGGLE IS REAL.
this is HELLA HELPFUL tysm 🙏 i love both mulihao's and your artstyles. question tho.. whats the purpose of the lighting near the back of the hair with the blue/why did you put it where you did & what brush did you use for it? thanks so much
@@contr0versial its more of an art choice to make the backhair lighter than the base hair color as a contrast but also to blend into the background more so that the main focus is still on the base hair i think the brush i used was the coloring brush but you could use anything as long as it works
Hi Hi Hii !! This video was so informative and I gained more knowledge from it, eventually I'll try to apply Mulihaohao's workflow in mine too, using your gatherings !! :DD By the way, do you have any brush alternatives for Ibis Paint X? Thank you :33
lineart or sketch - any scratchy ones like texture pen, dip pen bleed or rough layout pen bleeds color - any like felt tip pen (hard) air brush - any basic air brush like the normal one outline - outline ((this one is better in ibis than in procreate than you make yourself)) i forgot to put a section for ibis paint users so thanks for reminding ^^
