I think the reason that city tutorial defined the lights first and then drew in the windows is because the light serves a "staging" purpose- you're supposed to know how/ where the light hits the scene first, then justify it with details like lit windows :) In your case ofc its fine since you were copying from a completed artwork, it's just a thought that came to me while watching this
Omg I can't believe someone is finally talking about rei_17 (That I have yet seen on yt) I have always loved their artworks and wondered what they did espeically the colors they use. Nice work love the video :D
Hi, thank you for the wonderful video! I’ve been searching for ppl’s studies on rei’s workflow/coloring technique and finally found you. I’ve also been a fan of Rei, and from what i’ve researched: -she has a pretty detailed lineart but she often lower the opacity of the lineart layer + change the color of it. Her line work is also pretty thin so her color can be the focal point -she uses a lot of layer mode, and she stacks them on to have a nice effect/color. She uses mostly uses overlay? i think? judging from one of her process on pixiv -she has a very good, solid grip of color theory, especially values of colors. If you put few of her works that has very fun color going on (and said color choice seem not to make sense sometimes) on greyscale you can see… it makes sense
HOLY F*CK thank you so much!! this is incredible i genuinely LOVE rei_17's artworks and always wondered how they do it, I was able to understand a bit on the coloring process of the characters but when it came to the compositioning and background I am at a loss thank you thank you for this!!
You earned a subscriber, you really did an amazing job editing and going through the video. Loved the choice of music, and the speed at which you worked at it. Makes me want to try art studying some artists I love!
This is an amazing video, and I'm so glad it got recommended to me! I'm struggling with learning colors right now, and I think this will be really helpful
I adore rei_17. I do remember back in the day that they didn't like the idea of people studying their artworks at one point, though. I always feel a bit of shame the more I analyzed them, but I couldn't help myself they're so gorgeous. But I can tell from this video how much is out there that I know nothing about from them. I've never gotten very far on looking into them, I think I'll go ahead and try harder! I've always definitely been inspired by them through my work anyways, and tend to study their techniques alongside _RAB_'s.
Thank you!!! I've loved Rei's works for years, so I appreciate your analysis. The rendering is something so unusual, and I thought I saw used Paint Tool Sai, so I wonder if that contributes to the soft, shiny rendering.
Thank you!! 🙂 All the greats use paint tool sai or photoshop! Sai was a program I always wanted to try when I was younger. Whichever program you use would definitely change the rendering process, totally agree with you there.
Wow, you're amazing! I had no idea Google Translate had that feature. I have so many art tips saved with Japanese, Chinese, or Korean texts, now I can finally understand them, tyvm
Oh wow this is great. Idk what it is with painting but I always forgot to use references let alone do any research but now looking back at it the research part is soo important especially when it starts to compounding. Definitely will adjust my workflow because of this. Thank you.
I don't know if this is a usefull tipp for you but what I love to do in my artpieces which also helps alot with the color, is when the drawing is finnished I dublicate the Group layers and merge everything together (dont forget to dublicate incase smt goes wrong) And after everything is merged I play around with the curve tool. Make sure that the changes u make with the curve tool even look a bit too extreme, but that way colors which werent there before might shine trough which gives the drawing a much more interesting look. After that I just turn down the opacity so it doesnt look so extreme anymore -> more natural but it still has some new colors in it at the end. (I hope it was understandable sry my english isnt the best xD) the Artist shuen_art describes everything I just said more clearly and does alot videos that help with color theory
When I saw this post I thought it was from an already astabñished populair creator . It's crazy you only have a couple hundred subscribers , I hope this vid gets more attention !
omg i love her style so much but the drama around her is kinda notorious lmao (accuses everyone of copying her on weibo, from poses to colors... bad mouths her co-workers on projects she works on, generally bad mouths everyone... etc.) Her art's still GORGEOUS AUGH I also take inspo from her I even own a art book from her... 😭😭😭😭 Ignore me being a negative silly, this is such a well made video with lots of effort I love it!! ALSO HELLOO THE FINAL PIECE AND ALL THE EFFORT YOU PUT INTO THIS IS SHOW STOPPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@gold_eviishe’s more than that 😭 prolly one of the most toxic artist on the internet, couldn’t even count the number of dramas and bad mouth she made. But she’s too good that it blinds everything
I meant this in the nicest way but did you know that she has (or used to have?) a reputation for sending her followers after everyone she thought was "copying her style"? It always escalated into borderline cyberbullying though I haven't heard something similar in the last year
Rei is very opposed to people copying her style and has spoken openly about this issue bc of one main reason: style is not developed by copying what you like but rather by exploring your unique way of translating and reimagining the reality. Also the way she draws hands is uniquely based on the anatomy of her own hands. She’s actually very open about her colour techniques, how to use colours to bring out and emphasis certain emotions, how to make all the colours in one painting to serve one quality of one main colour etc.
A very common thing to do in art, is to do what are called master copies. You copy the piece as close as you can so you can learn the style, the technique, etc. I don’t think Rei would be opposed to this, rather people copying for profit or to pass it off as their own. Luckily, this video gives credit and helps us learn not only how Rei does it, but how to approach a master copy study session on our own
Literally, why are you here? Why are people so insistent on comparing AI art to traditionally/digitally drawn art. It’s not the same thing. Have some respect for your craft. AI art shouldn’t be in the same box as hand-drawn art because it’s an entirely different process. It should be its own thing just like photography is.
can you do thisuserisangry/colart606 next? 🥹 their usage of colors and messy lines is so interesting but I couldn’t understand nor get how they do it at all TT
Thanks for not gatekeeping, i cannot afford art school so videos likes this help so much
Around here we don’t gatekeep, I’m so glad this helps!
There are websites that distribute free courses
Can you recommend which ones? @@slothguy5946
bruh years drawing and I never find gatekeepers in art.
Knock off the gatekeeping nonsense nobody owes you anything art is a privilege not a right 😊
So I actually think her city background was a real image with filters on it. You went above and beyond
That’s a secret the world may never know. ☺️

This is the iPad 11?
iPad Pro 12.9in from 2021
That background music is annoying and obnoxious.
How do you not like k-pop?
Agreed, it’s so distracting compared to the monotone voice.
Great video. But you sound too robotic.

I love that artists shout at AI and they themselves do the same thing as it xd
How is this doing the same thing as AI?
