When the brother was speaking about how everyone is black or black adjacent but don’t claim being black is eye opening. Fascinating. Buen video, hermano. Gracias!
Absolutely. As a first generation Mexican American growing up in a very white Northern California town in the 80’s my parents spoke to me in Spanish primarily until I entered kindergarten then that was it they wanted me to not be different and so my Spanish is pretty broken now. I’m ashamed of it but I still speak Spanish at work all day as I work in the concrete construction field. My parents migrated to the USA in the mid 50’s and everyone else as well I’m sure I have some very distant family in Mexico somewhere but I’ve never been there. I was having a conversation with a good friend of mine on a jobsite last week about how he felt about the way the superintendent talks to him (older white super) and he said he feels like they don’t respect him and talk down to him and that he feels they are all racist and look down on them and he said to me knowing I’m Mexican and said I’m sure you get the same feeling at times too and I told him to his surprise that of course I do but I can speak English with a redneck country draw and Spanish with a strong Spanish accent so I’m good at blending like a chameleon. But not only do I feel racism from white people but I get discrimination from my Mexicano brothers too. He laughed and said “no llores POCHO!” 😂 he said I was trippin but it’s true. Sometimes I’m not white enough for the white guys and not Mexican enough for the Mexicans.
@@rcppop3090 I have no accent in English or Spanish. Born in Tijuana Baja California, raised in San Jose California and part in Los Angeles Ca. Lots of folks have African ancestry without even knowing it. This African blood comes from the Spanish side, way back when they were battling the Moors. Nowadays, having light or dark skin can be linked to those recessive genes kicking in. In my own family, I've got relatives with green eyes and blonde hair, but they've still got those tell-tale indigenous features that scream "Mexican heritage!" It reminds me of what went down in the southern US with families of Mexican descent. At first, they kinda played down those native traits in more recent generations. But eventually, they discovered they had Native American roots buried in that Mexican side of the family tree.
*_Excellent presentation! The way the information is broken down makes it accessible to everyone, regardless of their prior knowledge on the subject._* 😋

@@MariaRMedel Thank you for saying this, because they badly want to push this, victim mentality on Afro Mexicans, and through that want to "black wash" Indigenous history and cultures, using afro Mexicans to justify their rhetoric. And it's not that, there's this "hidden black history" in Mexico, it's that African descendents make up 5% of our population.

The Underground Railroad also ran south-not back toward slave-owning states but away from them to Mexico, which began to restrict slavery in the 1820s and finally abolished it in 1829, some thirty-four years before Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. Mexico was never involved in slavery its was the colonist Spain and France before the got ran out of México politically, the Mormon religious went to Mexico, escaping persecutions in the U.S. that why today you see Mormons and there offspring in Mexico also there's lots of Amish people and other religious people of that type who live in México

The problem is, africans in America and whites were supposed to join the Native race, Not replace it. That's why black Americans struggle with identity and white Americans have none. In Mexico the Natives retained more power which used to stretched the entirely of the west coast, but the Natives claim them as their people now, sure they have "roots" but if you live in someone else's land you should Ultimately join them, that's why they don't struggle with race, they are 1 now.
Also majority of black slaves were sent to tropical parts of America, only small percentage went north. Majority of them inheriting Native land who suffered extinct via disease and greed. Probably because you never see them. They are a small percentage of mexico. If you seen them more you would identify them as that or one something like that.
Trust me I've seen a lot of blacks in Mexico but like I said I don't refer them as Afro because they have been in Mexico for generations so to me they are my people & in Mexico we label them as Mexicans never blacks💯

LOL if you called a black mexican afro mexican or black they'll be confused or insulted.
When the brother was speaking about how everyone is black or black adjacent but don’t claim being black is eye opening. Fascinating. Buen video, hermano. Gracias!

That perspective is not unique to Mexico. Since people in Mexico are an array of hues, it's a bit more tolerated but yes, it's a stigma.
“Racism makes us simulated” was the deepest thing that man said!! 🗣️
Blacks are the most racists.
I used to go a lot to Michoacan Mexico to visit my grandmother, all I spoke was Spanish. People thought that my brothers and I did not know English. We did not want people think that we were talking bad about them. I was wonderful visiting our Mexican relatives. After my grandmother passed away, I have not gone back to Michoacan. It has been over 30 years that I have not gone back to Michoacan because of it being violent. But for the most part I have been living in the United States. I had to deal with some racists cops but I did not fight with them or argue. The people here have been respectful and I never had any problems.

No they are pysa’s not black mexicans bro 😂
*_Excellent presentation! The way the information is broken down makes it accessible to everyone, regardless of their prior knowledge on the subject._* 😋
Im a person born and raised in Mexico mix with my dad Afro Mexican and my mom Spaniard decent. My dad dark Afro hair and my mom light skin light color eyes. I’m a crazy mix of both. Abut my father and mother say. No race nothing, you’re Mexican. You’re born in Mexico. We don’t obsessed in race :)
@@MariaRMedel Thank you for saying this, because they badly want to push this, victim mentality on Afro Mexicans, and through that want to "black wash" Indigenous history and cultures, using afro Mexicans to justify their rhetoric. Mexicans with African descendent, know of their history in Mexico. There's great history like, Yanga Gaspar. And it's not that, there's this "hidden black history" in Mexico, it's that African descendents make up 5% of our population. So, your more likely to find Indigenous and spanish history, because of the colonization of the Americas. ❤
Driving down that whole coast, at times I felt I was in Panama or Dominican Republic! I’m Mexican Dominican and I’m so very happy this mix is now being recognized in Mexico ❤
