IO is superb. Usually charge on the weekend on my 3 pin granny charger. The app gives me pretty much the whole day at the low rate when the network has capacity. Loving it.

I’m looking to switch from EON to Octopus Energy as well and this is exactly the content I was looking for to make the switching easy as well as to understand the cost of charging during peak and off peak hours.
    Thanks for sharing your experience

I was on the go tariff for several years but now on intelligent tariff. I don’t bother with the intelligent bit as I charge our car and battery on the 6 hour cheap window. Octopus Energy are a brilliant company.

Good video. I’ve been with Octopus Energy since July and using Intelligent but was told only use the Octopus App to schedule my EV charging and not my Hypervolt. Once you input the % of charge required on the Octopus App it’ll give you the schedule and will automatically talk to my Hypervolt charger.

the offpeak window doesnt really matter with intellegent. you just plug in when you need to charge and it creates a dynamic schedule based on grid capacity. its important to not select off peak charging only. example i plugged in Sunday afternoon and it charged stright away. it also means your entire house gets the off peak rate at that time so get dish washer, cooker, washer on.

@@ohshootvidz once you plug in a pop up notification comes up in ohme app. if on iphone you have to press and hold to see the schecdule or it disapears which is annoying. depending on time / day of the week say you plug in on sunday if will say `we have created a charing schedule from 15:45 to 18:34` etc. or it may say it will change tonight from 10pm. so like i say if its stright away get all you appliances on! the Ohme app should also have updated automatically to have octopus intelligent in the tariff

@@ohshootvidz that could be because you have the price cap enabled in the Ohme charger app. It should have disabled it when it setup. As long as the enrolment process of octopus asked for your Ohme username and password it will be setup if it didn’t it may not be correctly done and you are just getting the 11.30 -5.30 hours.

Had an ev since July 18 and we charge at home 99% of the times. Highest every paid with Octopus Go was 3p per mile and that was last year. Now back to under 2p.
It takes about 10 seconds to plug in every night and probably less to unplug in the morning and that’s all. For my circumstances it’s working fine

It's brilliant isn't it! I'm getting off peak rates with every charge now for several hours at a time during peak hours on weekdays. No longer need to set the timer on the washing machine or dishwasher. I normally plug in around 6pm and top up when the car reaches 40% up to 80%. Octopus have rebranded it as Octopus Intelligent Go.

I wasn't attracted to this type of tariff - the fact that all usage benefits from the lower rate means that the "normal" rate is typically lifted so that the Supplier is not reducing income from normal household usage during the nigh time window. You are then faced with the need to move as much high-consumption usage such as dishwashers, washing machines and tumble dryers to the night window to make sure that you are not increasing the charge for this type of use due to the lifted daytime tariff. This could provide an opportunity to save but it implies a level of discipline my family will not achieve. I was an Ovo customer and was attracted to the fact that Ovo doesn't alter the normal capped charge for all use other than the EV which it controls and monitors using (in my case) the Renault API. I plug in any time I like, set a desired outcome (80% or 100% normally) and a desired completion time - typically 7:30am. Ovo then control the car to take a charge so as to meet my requirement.

    • @ohshootvidz
      @ohshootvidz  11 місяців тому +1

Thats not the case, the normal rate in my area is competitive with standard rates Octopus sent an email last week that they are lowering the day rates by 8%.
With this Tariff you have a guaranteed low rate between the off peak hours. The intelligent part is when the grid usage is low Octopus offer you off peak rates during peak hours if you charge your car. So the entire household benefits from that. For example on Sunday last week I had 4hours at 7.5pkWh during the day. I would take another look @rhiantaylor3446

My comment was an ironic pun - noting that handshaking is the term used between the car and the charger to agree a charging rate! Octopus refuses to add any more EVs although they claim otherwise. @@lawrenceharris1819 sorry to hear that. It baffles me why more charger manufacturers aren’t working with octopus. I always thought the charger is the easier one to work with rather than the car. The car is a lot more complicated.
I’ve just added a givenergy charger, battery and solar panels to my set up alongside the ohme charger. Givenergy are working on connecting with octopus but no timeline yet.
Did you choose the SyncEV charger because you were led to believe it would work with octopus? You can always sign up to octopus go, slightly more expensive on the off peak and fluctuates with wholesale but could still work out ok for you??

THE BIGGEST MISTAKE all EV OWNERS make is to completely 'forget' that once hooked to ev, YOU ARE VERY EASY PREY FOR ALL THE FORIEGN OWNED ELECTRICTY COMPANIES TO RAISE THEIR PRICES AS THEY HAVE BEEN DOING FOR THE LAST 24 MONTHS....... OMG this bloke illustrates exactly the reason I will not waste ENDLESS HOURS LOOKING AT mind boggling rubbish.....Must be a geek !
Yes I appreciate that ICE vehicles also face increases, BUT I can drive into ANY garage & fill up & be on my way in 10 minutes.......................WHILE ev owners are STILL driving around looking for a working charge point....once you find one, then the charges START......dont forget the time spent sitting around & the additional costs of over priced cakes & endless coffee. meanwhile I'm at home finished for the day.....MADNESS.

While you are filling with high cost petrol or diesel from foreign countries, we are charging for free from our solar cells, or charging cheap at night, also storing cheap night rate for the house in winter so saving loads, and not filling the air with poisons.
