Thanks for all your short instructional films on the MG4. I pick mine up at the end of the week but already feel I know more about my new car than I do about my existing Peugeot! Thanks again.
Great content, very useful as always! Picked mine up a few days ago and with the weather as it has been, I haven't exactly had much time/inclination to road test. Few things that might be fixed by me RTFM but others that need serious attention: My tyre pressure warning yells at me every time I set out. Might need a top-up or simply the cold lowering the pressure but I would have hoped the dealer had inflated properly before handing over. Apparently there is a whistling noise above 40mph. I can't hear it because I'm old and male but my daughter and wife confirm it is there and gets worse with speed. Hopefully it's something simple like a loose (Trophy) spoiler. The rear parking cameras/sensors seem misaligned. Was convinced I had more room but apparently I was touching the car behind. All low speed and no damage but lost some faith in the system that day. Here's the big one though...all the "safety" systems reset every time you get in the car with lane assist being the top offender. Wouldn't be a problem if it behaved but I was almost in a hedge today as it yanked the steering away from the middle lane of a country road. If you don't spend time setting up the car... every. single. journey, at some point it will give you a nasty surprise. ENCAP rating be damned, that is a borderline dangerous implementation.
I have made a list of most of this stuff from all the MG4 groups and forums - your video is great summary of the common issues, some I had not seen before I have this list Alignment/Balance Latest Updates for infotainment Not for Resale msg Sat Nav activated Recall/Software issues: Door Lock in issues Oil leak issue - revised breather? Yes, I trawled the forums too, sometimes it helps people to have a visualisation of what they should be looking out for. That's really what these videos are about, plus UA-cam is a lot easier to search than Facebook Groups, where important posts won't stay put and tend to disappear.
Hi Burl, I've watched all your MG4 videos. Thanks so much for making them - they are so helpful. We recently bought an ex-demo Trophy from a main dealer. Great car which we are enjoying and getting used to. One thing that keeps getting my attention is the brakes. We find that we have to push with a lot of pressure to stop/slow down the car e.g. approaching speed bumps or stopping at a junction. Have you ever experienced this with your MG4? I did mention this to the salesman before buying it and he assured me it would be addressed in the checks before I got the car. But it still feels like 'weak' brakes to me.
May I suggest another useful checklist item ? How to get access to the Manual car lock to open doors if 12v battery fails? ( Does not appear in the electronic copy of manual I have).
Thank you. Do you have the window noise? Even if, are you able to measure up the db on 60 mph? That's quite interesting for me. Some reviewers compained about that noise and I don't know if this issue was represented on the test car if a reviewer measured up the noise while driving.
I have had condensation in the top of the rear light clusters. Both had the problem but they cleared. It has since returned in one of these with quite a lot of condensation. Is this actually in the light or just the top horizontal trim? Need I be concerned? Thanks for the video I will now check the items you have covered.
Hi there, Without seeing your problem I wouldn't be able to tell if it was in the inner light unit or under the outer plastic trim. Condensation should definitely not be present inside the rear light clusters. The problem with LED lights is that they never get really warm on the inside, apart from some headlamp units. As a result, any water that does manage to get in tends to stay there all winter. This could do the electronics some harm. Tesla rear lights are notorious for this, even on the more premium model S. Best to get it into the dealer and see what they can do for you.
Great video as usual. When I put deposit on car in Ireland I asked dealer about the charging lead he said it was coming with the 3 pin domestic charger and cable for public charging . Also said floor mats included. Was surprised at all that cause normally I would expect you would pay for that. Anyway as usual all verbal. So I will believe it when seeing it.
I seen microscratches in the back spoiler of my mg4, it's in the dealer ready to pick up next week... they say they won't change that because it happens to all units. question to everybody: did you get your dealer to change the back spoiler?
No, I had the whole car machine polished and ceramic coated by an independent detailing specialist. All new cars from all brands seem to arrive with these imperfections, they have been shipped half way around the world after all...
Hello I am picking mine up this weekend, we are buying the show room car and noticed scratches on the spoiler. I mentioned this to the sales person and the have had it polished out.
Thanks for the video. May I ask did you have any oil leaks in your car? I guess not. However, I do see some oily stain on the rear of the car’s underlay (exactly like yours). Is it normal to have that? Or is there an oil leak?
No oil leaks. That is a mark from a pothole down our track! only the very first batch of cars into the UK had oil leaks, due to the reduction gearbox being slightly overfilled. Now the issue has been resolved
I'm about to get a new MG4, and this is not filling me with confidence! Surely the items mentioned should not be an issue on any new car; is this a sign of rubbish Chinese manufacturing?
Just wait until either the tyre pressure monitoring system or the led headlight control unit goes up the left, £400 per corner for the tyre pressure unit and about the same for the headlight units. But, hey at least it’s not Chinese, except for the plants in Chongqing, Hangzhou & Harbin. 🤦♂️

Thank you for this. I'm picking mine up on Monday and will be sure to check all these.
Thank u for these info! Helpful for new owners of Mg4😊
Great video and timely to we are collecting ours next month.

@@BurlSolomons Agreed - not everyone goes on the groups - this is a great way to inform more people
Is the LKA a lot better now after an update/recall?
@@BurlSolomonsAs you say, visualizing the checks helps greatly. Thank you!
@@Bonzo14 by all accounts it's very usable now and people are leaving it on after the update.
Very useful for when I pick mine up next month.

I haven't really got any noise from the window seals. A few cars have had it, and just needed the small fixed window seal re-seating

You didn’t mention checking the “chirping” noise coming from the a/c pump ?
Thanks, I hadn't come across this problem. I'll add it to the list in the description.
@@BurlSolomons Noticed this fault ( if that is what it is? ) on the various MG4 forums. Take care

You should have seen the Tesla new buyers checklist when I got my model 3, it was nearly 2 sheets of A4 listed in single line spacing!
I bought 2 brand new ford's didn't have to do this chinese tat that's why you have to do
Fords also come with a lot less kit as standard and reviews speak volumes for the latest Fords compared to this and the countless awards it's won...
Don't worry, his brand new fords will have both blown head gaskets within 12 months 😂😂😂
