What makes Till Lindemann so special is that he's not just a singer. He is a storyteller. His voice takes you on an emotional journey and makes you feel what he talks about. A lot of it gets lost when you have to read the translation instead of just listening to the words and the music.
The words just hit you... someone mentioned Puppe. When you just listen to the song you really can feel the pain of this child, that watches the sister selling her body, in Tills voice. Or "Wiener Blut"... I am from Austria so I know the Fritzl-case that the song is about. Listening to the song made me feel sick.
    There are so many examples...

This song and Puppe are two absolut gems of Rammstein, so dark and powerful. Love both of them. And just in case you don;t know...the cuts on his arms and chest are real, you can see the scars today in close-ups. He is one of the greatest artist to this time, nothing you see is fake.

The location this video was shot has some real German History in it.
The Place is called "Beelitz-Heilstätten" and it was a former military-sanatorium-complex where Hitler was recuperating after being wounded in WW1.
In 1945 the complex was occupied by the Russian Red Army and used as a military sanatorium until the fall of the Soviet Union.
Shortly after resigning, the former Head of the East German Government, Erich Honecker, was treated in Beelitz in 1990.
The whole sanatorium-complex (consisting of around 60 buildings) is abandoned since 2007 and is a Ghost-Town-District nowadays.
The room in the video was part of the "Bathhouse".
In regard to the cruelties and atrocities that happened in Nazi-Concentration-Camps and with the Folklore-Aspect of the "Sandman" which Rammstein referenced in the lyrics, this video-version has an even more dark and sinister dimension to it.

after the horrible summer Rammstein had to endure last year in the middle of a major European tour, with the band doing group hugs live on stage and Till appealing to the faithful not to believe the lies, this song takes on whole other meaning, for me anyway others may disagree well done sir, do enjoy your reactions

He said in Berlin in front of the crowd: "Bösen Zungen glaubt man nicht. Die Wahrheit kommt doch eh ans Licht"
(Don't believe in bad tounges. The thruth comes to light anyway.)
Which was true, just a few days ago Rammsteins lawyers published the official police statetment:
The person who accused Till with all the rape allegations was very drunk by herself and high on cannabis. There was no proof, that she was drugged or mistreatet in any other way.

Wow! Till is a master of conveying emotion through his voice, lyrics and the imagery that he incorporates. This one is no exception - it gave me a deeply unsettled feeling. I think it touches the deep-seated fear of the boogeyman which is part of our primal survival psyche. The smiling semi-clown-face evokes terror and illustrates the disconnect between appearance and underlying evil intent which a human duality that I've never been able to deal with.

I have already said this on other youtubers channels but this is a particularly dark version of the original song.
It's amazing for several reasons. Till Lindemanns voice with piano, the 'joker' style makeup and the 'story'of the song.
Language is very difficult to translate sometimes. Sure, you can get versions of words but unless you truly understand a language, the nuances, the real meaning can be lost.
I learnt this in a song by a french group, 'Noir Désir' and their song "Le vent nous portera" in which certain lines did not translate into English but in French, sent the hairs on the back of my neck upwards.
It's the same in this song. The advantage that German has over many languages is that, to me, a non German speaker, it sounds menacing, threatening and gutteral.
Rammstein are a fantastic group. Their music is virtually Wagnerian and this is why this song, stands out because the singer and the piano are alone.
No visual effects. No orchestrated music. No visceral crescendos.
It is a great piece of music.

Have you ever seen "Lilja 4 ever"? I freaking love that film. Hard to see, tho.
    Guess is here, on UA-cam.
I recommend it to you. This song is on it.
But I warn you: is a very sad one. Is fantastic, but I cried the two times I've seen it.
    Amazing film.
Guess I love a lot of movies where Rammstein has participated with the music. Like Nymphomaniac, or David Lynch Lost Highway. 🖤
