Wave, of all the bands out of Japan...or on the planet really, LOVEBITES is at the very top of the list for us metal heads. They have clearly set the new standard for heavy metal. Recommend NAMELESS WARRIOR next and key in on 👸HARUNA's double-kick control. Is there such a thing as ghost notes on the base drum? If not, there is now. Loved you comment on the 'epic shot' of Midori at 5.23. It is my favourite image of her having just smashed out a power chord and looking so defiantly at the audience/camera.
Thanks for the reaction Wave. My reaction to Lovebites songs is visceral so I really appreciate a breakdown that helps me understand what I'm listening to and why it makes me feel the way I do. Whenever I'm driving (alone) I have Lovebites playing and it's a wonder I haven't been stopped for speeding.
A theory about Haruna: had a girl in my class at high school. Very small to Norwegian standards at 5 inches, but did very well at Cooper tests. And it was a sight to behold: Her feet went at a incredible pace for 12 mins. And I guess it's the same with Haruna. Little mass, but short and massive explosive fibres makes it easier for her to keep the pace.
I fully agree "how do the stay so tight?" - the most amazing thing is that the two guitarists can play in sync at this speed. Everything is good. But - that part blows my mind.
For what it's worth, Miho seems to be enjoying herself. She's traveled to Okinawa, bought a motorcycle, and has hung out with some other women from the Japanese metal scene. I hate the thought of LOVEBITES without her, but I wouldn't want her in a situation that, for whatever reason, she didn't want to be in.
Lovebites formed in 2016. In 2018 they won the Metal Hammer Golden God Award for best new band. They are Japanese but all songs are in English. Asami (vocals) has a strong accent so it can be hard to tell its english sometimes but we love her either way Asami - Vocals Miho - Bass Miyako - Guitar/Piano Midori - Guitar Haruna - Drums
Great reaction video dude. It's kind of funny how mentioned the stamina of Haruna on drums. I'm not a musician, but from what I've always been told by the few people I know who actually do play drums (as well as several drummers here on UA-cam who've reacted to Lovebites) that Haruna's style of playing the kick-drum with the heel-up is actually a more draining/exhausting style of playing than what most drummers use. I also like how Haruna's style of playing to me seems very similar to Dave Lombardo, but also with her own unique style of playing added into it. As far as vocals go, Asami to me sounds a bit like a female version of Bruce Dickinson combined with a bit of Amy Lee as well as the chick from Leaves Eyes (I can't remember her name, but she was the vocalist for the song He'll to the Heavens and also did the female vocals for the Music Video version of Nymphetamine by Cradle if Filth), but also with her own unique style added into the mix. Then you have the two guitarists (Midori who is the blonde one and has a more 'clean' sound on leads, and Miyako who is the dark-haired one and has a more 'distorted' sound on leads), who in my opinion is what it might have sounded like if Kerry King from Slayer and Kirk Hammett from Metallica had ever played on stage together back in their early days. Then you have Miho, who was their Original Bassist and the Co-founder of the band. Although it's sad that Miho decided to leave the band, I personally think that Lovebites could not have chosen a better Bassist to fill Miho's position than their new Bassist Fami. In my opinion Fami stays true to the legacy set forth by Miho, while at the same time staying true to herself and adding a fresh new sound to the band that simply increases the band overall. And while the Miho-era part of Lovebites would give just the slightest hint of Bolt Thrower sound/vibe when playing, after Fami joined the Bolt Thrower sound/vibe increases, which I personally believe is a good thing and simply adds to the already obvious greatness that is Lovebites. Just check out some of the songs from their new album that came out just a few months ago. One thing I'd like to point out however is the fact that most people tend to compare Midori's 'guitar pick slide' during her lead in this song to the band DragonForce, almost as if that's the standard of comparison. But in actuality the first time I heard that was from an early Slayer song which was either Chemical Warfare or Haunting The Chapel way back in the mid-80's. Just wanted to point that out. But regardless of my opinion, again great reaction video dude. Oh by the way, you just got a new subscriber
Great reaction video dude. These ladies are extremely talented musicians, and in my opinion are at the same level talent-wise as members of Metal bands from back in the Height of Metal back from the mid-80's to mid-90's (I actually remember Metal from that time period, one of the few things I remember from that time period, and the FIRST two Metal songs I ever heard were Haunting The Chapel by Slayer and Ride The Lightning by Metallica when in was still in Junior High in the mid-80's). Lovebites style of playing/sound incorporates 3 of the 6 subcategories of the genre of Heavy Metal (and yes, there are ONLY 6 TRUE subcategories of Heavy Metal, those being Heavy Metal, Punk Metal, Speed Metal, Thrash Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal). These talented ladies incorporate the sound of the Heavy Metal subcategories of Heavy Metal (such as Iron Maiden or Iron Savior or Armored Saint or Metal Church) and incorporate some Speed Metal (such as early Metallica or early Slayer or early Overkill) as well as some Thrash Metal (such as Flotsam and Jetsam or Bolt Thrower or Testament), then add their own unique style of playing into the mix while still giving homage to the bands that came before them. And in my opinion Miyako and Midori sound a bit like what it might have sounded like if Kerry King from Slayer and Kirk Hammett from Metallica had ever played on stage together back in their early days. Asami's vocals are top-notch, and my opinion are equal to the best male melodic Metal vocalists from the mid-80's to mid-90's (Geoff Tate and Bruce Dickinson just as two examples). Miho on Bass is outstanding, and I personally put her on the same level talent-wise as the late Cliff Burton. Haruna absolutely kills it on drums, and up until 2021 Haruna's style of playing seemed a bit like Dave Lombardo and a bit like Paul Bostaph, but with her own unique style added into the mix. On their new album that just came out (this February if I'm not mistaken) Haruna's style seems to leave Paul Bostaph out of the mix (no disrespect intended for Paul Bostaph) and instead sounds a bit like Dave Lombardo and a bit like Tim 'The Missile' Yeung, ESPECIALLY on the song Soldier Stands Solitarily, but again with her own unique style of playing added into the mix. And I've noticed that Haruna actually uses the 'heel-up' style of playing the kick-drum, and from what I understand that's actually the more difficult/strenuous/tiring style (please correct me if I'm wrong about that being the more tiring style of playing). But enough of my rambling. Again, great reaction video dude. Had a suggestion for another reaction video: Hell to the Heavens (Official Music Video) by Leaves Eyes. The only reason I suggest the Official Music Video version is because it portrays visually what the lyrics are saying.
I know you're more into hard rock than thrash/power metal. But if there is a chance to review Lovebites again, I recommend Lovebites songs such as: Dancing With The Devil, Burden Of Time, Frozen Serenade, Empty Daydream. *Many live videos have been removed, but the audio version is still worthy to react
Great reaction video as always dude. Rather than mention the guitars or bass or vocals, I'll mention the drums. That's simply because FAR too often Metal drummers get overlooked/ignored. Haruna is an absolute BEAST on drums. There's a reason why Haruna is sometimes referred to as the 'Pocket Nuke', and it's because she's so explosive on drums. Plus Haruna uses the more difficult style of 'heels up' rather than the 'flat-foot' style on the kick drums/bass pedals. Haruna has 2 speeds when drumming: Fast and FASTER. Haruna's style of playing up until the new album from Lovebites seems like Dave Lombardo and Paul Bostaph combined, but with Haruna's own unique style of playing added into the mix. Now on their new album, ESPECIALLY the song Soldier Stands Solitarily, Haruna's style of playing leaves Paul Bostaph out of the mix (NO disrespect intended to Paul Bostaph) and instead sounds like Dave Lombardo and Tim 'The Missile' Yeung combined with her own unique style of playing added into the mix. My opinion is that Haruna is DEFINITELY one of the top 10 Metal drummers since the mid-80's to mid-90's when Metal was at it's height. Just my own personal opinion anyway. But my opinion aside, again great reaction video dude.
Great & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 Haruna's drumming is super. I read an article about her in a Japanese magazine "Headbang" (vol.29 published in April 2021 [page 124]). Haruna answered in an interview that her muscle mass was equivalent to that of Japanese male. No! She must have much bigger muscle, heart and passion in her dainty body frame.
hi wave, I use that epic shot as a wallpaper. midori looks like a godess. And I also still cannot wrap my head around the fact, that they not only are such phenomenal musicians, but also that their songs always sound so joyful, glorious and touching.

Haruna is pretty muscular, could be the strongest of them all, but still nimble. She is the reason I kept watching Lovebites, in fact she is the first drummer I really admired. But snooping around in Japan, there where of course more. Akane, Tamu, Senri, and a lot of others.
With Asami's wedding, Miyako's baby and her wedding I don't think a new bassist was on the agenda. They did post a Happy New Year photo of the 4. I'm sure they are looking at bassists, one that may be available is Rio of Mary's Blood as they have announced their break up.
Great and awesome review and good analysis as always. I really want you to try their A Frozen Serenade in live of Ride for Vengeance tour. Though the clips have been taken down from UA-cam, you still can watch it in some reaction channels. It has so many elements and beautiful and epic. Sick guitar riff, dreaming acoustic sound, passionate guitar solo, incredibly tight and precise ensemble. This is a link for a reaction channel. ua-cam.com/video/YJq97aXl_30/v-deo.html I want you to react to it once it comes back on UA-cam.
Here the ladies played in a sterile arena (less than 50% capacity, assigned seats with social distance, no yelling, screaming or shouting and clapping only) yet they managed to bring the thunder despite no energy from the crowd. Haruna should be the poster child not the Energizer Bunny (it looks anemic compared to her), here she just takes this Lamborghini band and slams it into top gear and keeps going non-stop. Rammstein never heard "Don't Play With Matches" and Haruna never heard "Slow Down or Stop"!!!! She started like most of these women on the piano (I picture her breaking pedals and keys and her teacher begging her to switch to the drums...only kidding!! her rabid fans are dangerous to those that insult the little engine (LOL)).

LOVEBITES - Set The World On Fire lyrics:
The blue moon colors the blaze
Stabbing myself with the thunder
The predetermined imitation
An emotionless and a fearless smile
Flowing blood and crimson blade
Devastated resolution
Heat haze is waving far away
Who’s going to be sacrificed?
ON FIRE
Just like a falling flower
ON FIRE
Until this body rots away
Burning down to the Gates of Hell
Distorted madness is sneering
Incompetent, cowardly fools
A pitiful and painful punishment
It’s you who will be sacrificed
ON FIRE
Dressed in an armor of steel
ON FIRE
If I’m burned again and again
I’ll rise up from the Gates of Hell
The blue moon colors blaze
Stabbing myself with the thunder
The predetermined imitation
An emotionless and fearless smile
Flowing blood and crimson blade
Devastated resolution
Heat haze is waving far away
Who’s going to be sacrificed?
ON FIRE
Just like a falling flower
ON FIRE
Until this body rots away
Burning down to the Gates of Hell

Yeah but at 144.8 cm she is an explosion that goes off and doesn't stop. I would confess to anything rather than have her kicking me (LOL)!!!!

If i'm not wrong, Miyako was pregnant on this concert.
Yes, she was. Four month and got a baby alright. She is a mom now.
Haruna is pretty muscular, could be the strongest of them all, but still nimble. She is the reason I kept watching Lovebites, in fact she is the first drummer I really admired. But snooping around in Japan, there where of course more. Akane, Tamu, Senri, and a lot of others.
Its a mix between,Slayer,Metallica,Antrax and Testament.
7:35 Another little sip of the moonshine? Nice move buddy!
Now i feel bad! Love your reaction!
Thanks man! Why do you feel bad??
No replacement yet. Asami just got married. Miyako also just got married and had a baby. New music might be a while.
Miyako was about 4 months pregnant during this concert and video.
With Asami's wedding, Miyako's baby and her wedding I don't think a new bassist was on the agenda. They did post a Happy New Year photo of the 4. I'm sure they are looking at bassists, one that may be available is Rio of Mary's Blood as they have announced their break up.
Hiatus, not break-up.
Miho and Haruna formerly of Destrose.
If she wasn't into music, she'd be working construction cos she loves to hammer things ! Go Little Big Engine 🤘🐺🤘
Very insightful reaction 👍
same here on missing miho - hope she is doing ok
Miho Miho Miho!
She seems well and posts frequently on Twitter and Instagram. Recently she got her motorcycle driving licence.
