  • Being cheap, I built a homemade beach fishing cart, I looked for ideas for beach carts with big wheels for sand, did not find anything really inexpensive, and settled on converting a kid's big wheel in my surf fishing cart. Works great! "As Built" parts below:
10 ft of 1-1/4 PVC pipe
    2 elbows - 45 degree
    2 T connectors
    3 Cross Ts (use 1 cross T and 2 T connectors to save $)
    1 elbow - 90 degree
    1 end cap
2 stainless steel bolts and nuts (6 inch for this size big wheel)
    Small scrap wood/plywood
4 self-tapping screws to attach the plywood to the seat
1 long screw to connect the front to the back if you want to break it down for storage
2 small bolts/nuts to reconnect the cut off seat
    Paint
Existing tackle box (I use a cheap Harbor Freight toolbox)
I used my Hobie KC welder to do the plastic welding - amzn.to/2gH9Mam

It goes without saying that fishing is dangerous as a result of the fast water, slick rocks and other hazards that occur in random, unexpected places. You need to exercise caution, particularly in the spring when the water is high or during rapid changes in tide before you fish anywhere. You should always wear a life vest when fishing. Also, a wading staff will help you keep your balance as you walk on the shoreline or wade.

The regulations governing legal access to fishing locations may change at any time, and it is your responsibility to understand the law. Lmao! I clicked this video, and I’m 30 seconds in.... and I see a grown man kneeling next to a tricycle... and I just lost it! Lol! I’m gonna compose myself and get back to this video. I’m certain that there is plenty here to learn.

I love this, I am going to turn my carp trolly into a transporter and surf rod holder which can be easy moved back with the tide. Exciting times.

Nice. What I like most about it is that I can fit it into the trunk of my car (have a Corolla). I like the idea of using pins on the handle; would only take a second to put it together and will fit nicely in the trunk. And that you added the open ends of the tee for add-on it a good idea. Thanks for sharing.

Thats awesome!!! Love the idea. You mentioned the plywood rotting off.. Something i have done is buy cutting boards cheap. I haved used them for circles that go around my bandsaw blade as well as make a draw slide and they glide on pieces of one.. That would perfect for your little stand if you wanted to try something else... But honestly I doubt it will give you any trouble. Awesome build bud!

great idea.. have just had a little guy myself should be able find a set of those wheels laying around in my future.

If he is like my son, he will run thru these pretty quick. The front wheel goes first as it gets ground down on one side from braking :-)

I love this project but I see 2 things it needs and I'm sure you can figure it out. #1, a cup holder. #2, some type of small cutting board for tackle near the top of the handle. Something you can cut some bait and a place to lay a knife. Actually a flat board with a cupholder cutout. Make these mods and I will declare your project perfection.

    • @KayakhacksFishing
      @KayakhacksFishing  7 років тому

haha! cup holder! Maybe that goes on the additional PVC bar I might add. I have a dollar store cutting board in my tool/tackle box I use for bait. When the top opens, it lays pretty flat. I was going to add some velcro holders to it for braid scissors and knife so they are not buried deep in the box. But.. the flat board idea is pretty good. It could rest on the PVC loop I may add...

Good idea. I think I will try that. I have the same problem down here in Florida. Long hikes to good fishing spots. P.S. I used to fish at the same inlet where you fish.

    Love Wrightsville Beach!
and Kure Beach, Carolina Beach, Southport, Ft Fisher.....
    Liked.
Side note, at a mile mule'n any cart like that, has to wear on the shoulders and back. But having a wheeled cart is the key. Look at Harbor Freight as I think they have something of a collapsible 4 wheeled cart.
Also, consider a backpack with pvc rod holders to take away all the shoulder and back pain.
But I admit I do like repurposing things. So hope the trike turned cart is still working well.
    Catch a hammerhead for me.

Great idea with creative thinking. ( PLEASE DONT put USA pvc prices on) ...as in my country prices are around 4 times dearer. Great comments this is "UA-cam at it's best".

How well do those wheels handle the sand?

    • @KayakhacksFishing
      @KayakhacksFishing  7 років тому

I was worried about that. I had my buddy walk behind me to see if the wheels would sink up to the plastic holding the axle. No issues, they dealt with the sand just fine. Of course, once on the beach, I walked directly to the firm sand near the waves, so I only had to deal with loose sand for a short distance. But, easier walking closer to the water anyway.

One more point. This big wheel was the smallest for a really little kid. I bet the back wheels on the next sizes up would be even better.

Cleaver but I'm sorry I like the premade carts. Yes they cost more buts it's an investment. They hold so much. Rods, tackle boxes, cooler, net, umbrella, lawnchair, cast net, buckets for live bait, cutting boards, etc.

I agree - but it was fun to make this one... and I do not surf fish that often.
