    I run the Tamron 28-75 on my Sony A7III and love the setup. I wish I had this lens with a wider front end, but it's amazing picture quality and fast focusing. I also bought its wider brother, but I still like the 28-75 more.

    Hey thanks for the review(s) ! I am a long term micro43 user (now owning the Gx9 and G9), and I finally took the plunge and bought the A7III along with the Tamron 28-75. While I must say that the image quality is excellent (mostly), I am a bit disappointed with autofocus performance in S-AF. Here's why: when I shoot wide open, focusing is quite quick (far from G9 quick but ok...), but as soon as I have to stop down the lens (say to f8.0), the camera takes a loooong moment to open the aperture, focus, the close the aperture and finally take the shot. This can take more than one full second! I wasn't used to that on my G9 which is blisteringly fast (I'd say about 0.1-0.2s, but it's so quick it's hard to measure). This makes the Sony-Tamron combo about unusable for anything unexpected, unless I shoot C-af where it doesn't perform this stupid routine. However, I've noticed that C-AF is not as accurate for distant subjects... Bummer. Well, I'm surprised that no reviewer seem to address this issue. Also, it is pretty slow to power up and feels sluggish in general (menus, EVF switch...). Then again, maybe I've been spoiled with the G9 :)
    I made a video showing the issue if anyone's interested. ua-cam.com/video/TEkA9AgSXZI/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/Ib0Kw2V0A9M/v-deo.html

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  4 роки тому

      These cameras are primarily made for back button focusing (AF-ON) only using AF-C, which is also why there is no hard half click on the shutter. I definitely recommend that technique, it gives you much more control over AF.
      AF-S is more of a tripod mode, so the AF is not in the hurry, so to say. PD AF doesn't work above F11, so the AF gets slow, but I don't recommend using any lens above F11 anyway due to diffraction. I have never had any issues with AF accuracy on A7 III in any mode, so I have never used AF-S on any Sony camera.

    • @JeanV1986
      @JeanV1986 4 роки тому

      @@TheHybridShooter Thanks for your response. I will try this technique. I really want to like this camera, as the results are really top notch ;)

      It would be much bigger and more expensive if it was 24-70, so that is a compromise. Missed 24mm focal length as well, so I bought FE 24mm F1.4 GM. That combination is still cheaper than 24-70mm F2.8 and IMO better.

    It is very important to note that this lens has 6 whether sealings & fluorine coating at the front element. Sigma 24-70/2.8 & 28-70/2.8 is just providing a rubber seal at the mount of these lenses. Also the Sigma 24-70/2.8 is notorious to gather dust over a period of time & completely lacking water & oil repellent coatings on it's front element.

      Good stabilized video is a relative term, so it depends on your expectations. It you want to get the best results possible, I recommend using this gimbal with A7 III and 28-75 - bit.ly/MozaAir2review

    I have the A6500 with the Sigma 16mm. I'm considering a Zoom lens for it. I saw your video on Sony A6500 and you use the Sigma 16-35mm 1.8 with MC11 adapter.. Why don't you use the Tamron for the A6500?. I mostly shoot videos, certain videos show the motor noise from the Sigma, is it too loud to use a shotgun mic on camera? I would think the Tamron would be best for both, unless u need to Vlog and need that 16-20mm. But if that motor is loud, then sound would be a problem, and focus hunting. Tamron with its Quite motor and higher focal lengths. Wouldn't you just want the Sigma 16mm and The Tamron. This way it covers more ranges.. It's also lighter for travel.. What are your thoughts since u own both. The motor noise is my biggest concern about the 16-35. How apparent was the motor noise in your videos with a Shotgun or any on camera mic?

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  5 років тому

      Focusing on Sigma 18-35 is very loud it is not possible to record audio with shotgun mic with 18-35. 28-75 works well on A6500, but for me 28mm on the wide end is not wide enough. If 28mm (40mm full frame equivalent) is wide enough for you, or you have another wide angle... why not.

    I have to say that I have different experience with manual focusing. And one more think I notice is that lens profile on lightroom is very aggressive for fixing vignetting. I use sony a7II and lightroom profile just push a lot noise in corners.

And would you also recomend the Tamron 28-75 RDX? ...some People Talking About the Sony 24-105 G 4.0 OSS as the better Option???? ...what is your opinion?

    Bro what is the next best camera next to sony a7 iii. I know I wanna buy it. But it's too much as I'm starting out. I know my photos are amazing. But i need the charity. I won't be satisfied otherwise. I tried D3400 nikon for some months and I really enjoy but the clarity is not at all great with the kit lens. 18 55 and 70 300. Kit lens. I have some good 1st time using dslr captures with this camera but I still wish I could buy Sony please let me know your suggestion. Mirrorless and Full frame these 2 are my priority but keeping budget in mind I wish I can have something for half the cost of sony a7iii with kit 28 70.

      @@TheHybridShooter hello bro final Q. I used the a7iii at a workshop by sony. A7iii vs A9. Can I manage a football or swim or other event with both equally? Yes i can miss some shots who cares. Not all shots are for me in the world. There will be other photographers. So what's your take ? Save money my 1st camera buy the best. Even though I'm amateur. But get the best. But still a7iii is costing me now. 1.30 inr vs 1.90 inr. No lens. Lens maybe 24 240 or 24 105 what do you think? Works?

      Difficult to say, 28-75 is sharper and it has wider aperture, but 24-105 is more versatile and it has stabilization, which helps a lot.
