I would buy this if i didn't already have the first one, although i was a bit disappointed with its cheap plastic build quality after spending almost 900 bucks
Some time around 7-8 months earlier I jump-shifted to Sony and Tamron, got the 28-75 and 70-180 f/2.8, later I bought the 17-28 f/2.8 and have to say I'm satisfied with the results. I haven't tried a GM lens before, so can't compare with the AF speed. at this point I wouldn't change to the G2 or even the 35-150 most probably even though I like the concept of f/2 35mm is really promising but as a climbing photographer I do need that extra reach (sometimes 180 seems not enough, so maybe later I will get something like a 150-600 or 200-600 for sports and wildlife)..
I had the 28-75 and the 17-28 from Tamron as well and switched both for the GM ones from Sony. In point of sharpness, both Tamron and GM were on par. The AF from the GM lenses work a little bit faster but definitely not a game changer. And then there is the weight, the GM lenses are so heavy, especially if go on a long hike. But the softness of the bokeh and the flexibility of the zoom ranges (24 mm instead of 28 mm on the wider side and 35 mm instead of 28 mm from the wideangle zoom) are the reasons I switched to the GM lenses.
Just shot a concert with this lens. One of the best purchases I have made. Along with my 85mm f1.8, the results I got were amazing! Killer photography duo.
Hi. So you are very impressed of your Sony 85mm 1.8 as well? Also with focusing moving subjects (like in a concert)? I want to buy a 85mm as well and the Sony 1.8 seems to be such a good price/quality lens. Cheers
@@trezegol2007 I absolutely love the Sony 85mm, it's my go to lens. I mostly do indoor parrot pet photography and that's the lens I always use. I also like the Tamron 70-180 f/2.8 but out of the two, I prefer the 85mm prime. The birds usually are less scared of the 85mm as opposed to the larger 70-180.
This lens is very suitable for Sony A7c! You can shoot anything from far to near without changing to another lens. The close-up capability is a good point, too!
Good review. I think this has faster focusing and better corner sharpness than the sigma 28-70mm from more forensic comparisons I have seen. But in the real world most aren't going to notice, sigma has the edge on bokeh from what I have seen.

I don't have a kit lens on my Sony A7 iii so I went and got the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 G2 as my "travel light bring only 1 lens". It's somewhat affordable (1199$CAD+tx), small, light and versatile. I already own their 70-180 f/2.8 and I absolutely love that lens but it's not very practical at the apple orchard for example. You'd probably need a wider prime to carry in a small bag like the Peak Design everyday sling 6L (which is my bag of choice when traveling light as a 5'1 petite woman). I don't enjoy having to switch lenses in the field so I prefer something that can give me a little bit of everything. My next purchase will most likely be their 17-28mm f/2.8. Great little trio for the price!
That USB type C connection does more than just a firmware update. You can customize the ring and button on the side of the lens in Tamron lens utility app to make it whatever you want. Change exposure, auto focus etc etc.
I bought all three of the Tamron lenses 17-28, 28-75 and 70-180, when they first came out. Great trio but after travelling with them I found that I was constantly changing between the 17-28 and the 28-75 because I needed a little wider view so i sold the 28-75 and got the sigma 24-70. It is a heavy lens but the quality is great and so far I am happy with it.

Hey Jared, I ordered the 35-150mm f2-2.8. It is painfully slow in getting into the channels. I shoot almost always in my small daylight studio, models, portraits, and some product. For me the f2 option is perfect to get me started with Sony, coming from Canon DSLR and primes.
I have the Tamron 70-180 and It is a very good lens, I now don’t shoot with my Primes anymore only at night scenes and when I like that Look the Prime can give me and even then the Compression from the 180 still works . So For the money and quality I’d say the New Tamron is a great option 😊
I have the 24-105 f4 and it is amazing though there's somewhat noticeable corner softness at the extreme focal lengths and apertures. I'm only here, thinking and looking at these lenses because of the 2.8 since I occasionally take night/low light shots and still haven't decided anything yet.
