Thank you for the ad revenue. Have a great week.
Did get one, yes. Am very happy with it. Only gripe is the lack of trailer brake controller. Got the Armada part, but getting it wired and taking apart the center console to install is a hassle.
I have owned my 2020 QX80, towing a 7400lb camper, for three years now, and your review was SPOT on. I too went with a bluetooth trailer controler and have had great results with it, but good point as to why it's not avaialble. In addition, I feel like if the rear end gearing were slightly lower the vehicle would perform better, especially on inclines with the trailer. The alternative, as you mentioned, would be for Nissan to put the same 11 speed transmission in the QX as they do the Titan. Thanks again for a brilliant review, I look forward to future reviews and content.
Literally every single person I know that has or currently owns an Armada/Titan/QX56/QX80 has had nothing but positive things to say about them. These things are tanks, and if I needed a big truck or SUV I’d buy one of these no doubt. All the reliability of a Toyota truck with way worse resale value so they’re a steal pre-owned.
Yep, we've heard really good things here too. One of my good friends has been a Nissan/Infiniti tech for years and sees them come in with 300k+ on the odometer pretty often.
Have a 19 qx and have owned many comps....tahoe, Escalade, range, lexus etc. I'd get another one. They are a mix of reliable off-road luxury for the $ that can't be beat. Put some pirelli scorpion ATR+ on and its perfect for its mission. And 20" wheels not 22s.
I’ve never towed with my 21’ qx80, however, I plan on towing a 6 x 12 enclosed U-Haul long distance from NC TO FL. My suv will have my husband and I plus our three daughters. The trailer is mainly going to have boxes, dining chairs. I’m nervous about the weight inside of my suv. You explained this video well. We drive typically after we get off work and stop halfway in GA, then resume the next morning. Definitely going to take my time driving.
Sequoia wins on drivetrain because of forced induction and a slightly better transmission, though its Tow/Haul grade logic for auto downshifts is less good. Sequoia loses on third row/cargo space given the third row doesn't fold flat. Full towing video on the 2023 Sequoia is here: ua-cam.com/video/JoubGXp7LOI/v-deo.html
Hey Jake, great review. I'm curious, how did you approach dealers to get them to allow you to test their trucks for towing reviews? I've reached out to a bunch of dealers here locally, but nobody will give me a call back. I've got a small channel, so I get it, but eventually i'd like to do some content around towing using smaller trucks/suv's and popup campers.. ie., under 4K pounds or so. Thanks a lot !! Love your channel !!
My Qx80 is by far my best tow vehicle. 28-foot camper, 6 passengers, and all our gear. Engine doesn't struggle like my GMC and I think it gives better aerodynamics in wind too. But it started setting timing chain codes and going into limp mode last trip.😪
Thanks for an excellent video. I appreciate it very much. I have a 27 foot trailer that weighs about 5800 pounds with a 750 pound hitch. Do you think I’d have any problems? Pulling it with my 2023 QX 80?
You did touch on transmission heat, but, it would be GREAT to know what vehicles have a built-in transmission fluid temperature readout, as well as oil pressure, temperature, actual coolant temperature, maybe some other options as well. I think (hope?) that's fairly standard on these vehicles at this point, but, fully support you doing your best John Davis and calling out the ones that do and don't include this, because it can make a HUGE deal.
Good review! I don't see any payload information from the spec on Infiniti website, while there are numbers for Amarda. No suprise it's less than Amarda (1300 vs 1484 for Amarda Platinum). It does well in your case, but if we do 4 people in car with a 20~25ft travel trailer, the payload is not enough or with little buffer
Glad you enjoyed! Payload is a big deal that not many people discuss. And yep, hard to realistically have a full 6 or 7 passenger SUV while towing near the top of its rated weight. Not exclusive to any one brand but something to think about...
Just installed rear air suspension compressor, 20min JOB. EZ 187 DOLLAR COST AMAZON, vs dealer wanting 1400 dollars. YEP. ITS 4 BOLTS, PLUG IN DONE. NO TRICKS. 20min job. Yep. P.s. it will go bad guys. 2016 84k. Yep. Have since mile 7. Enjoy.
So, I hear you on the 'less useful' 2wd utility vehicle, but, would that not add 150-200 lbs back into the payload? Especially if you tend to trend a little closer to the 15% end of the 10-15% tongue weight range and are closer to the upper end of that towing capacity, that can be the difference in having enough payload left over for just a driver or literally not having enough payload to drive it.
Not sure why QX80 can’t get a built-in trailer brake control, while it’s available in Armada. I did some search, seems the there is pre-wired brake controller connector there, did you try to use that? I see you bought a wireless one. Thanks
It's strange for sure! The wiring should be behind that panel where the controller is on the Armada. We only get these vehicles for a week to review and if the controller isn't installed already, the easiest method is to use the wireless Prodigy RF as messing with wiring isn't something I want to do, nor do the manufacturers really want either 😊
What is with luxury brands not including a TBC on vehicles like these? I think Lexus is similar right with things like Sequoia having it available just like Armada. I’d even bet the wiring is all there and all that’s needed is the module to plug into the dash harness.
It's silly! Lincoln includes one (if properly equipped) on the Navigator and Cadillac will include one on the Escalade. Really odd to see others offer vehicles with such high tow capacities and no TBC. Lexus, Infiniti, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz all do it, and the vehicles are expensive enough that it should be a no-brainer.
@@fanizzle157 Ah, that's right. Thought you were referring to load leveling or something. Hydraulic Body Motion Control is not rear-only, it handles all four corners. But you are correct, that is only included on the Infiniti.

100% agree. Looking at an qx80 or Armada for a tow vehicle as well. Did you get the qx80? If so, do you like it?

i have 2014 with 120k, just changed timing belt cost me around 5-6k, good as new, planning to order 2024, i like v8 for towing fish house and boat

Fail there's no HBMC in the armada
Looks like a lot of rear sag on the Infinity.. even with the rear air suspension
