  • ( www.TFLtruck.com ) The 2015 Infiniti QX80 is a big boy 3 row truck based SUV with a 5.6L V8 that put our over 400 HP. In other words this is one truck that can be used to tow another truck. And that's exactly what we decided to do in another episode of TFLtruck's grueling Ike Gauntlet Towing test review. How does the 2015 Infiniti QX80 tow up the mountain? You'll have to watch this video to find out.
    The Ike Gauntlet is a timed run up one of America's steepest highways from 9,000 feet above sea level to the top of the mountain at entrance to the Eisenhower Tunnel in Colorado.

    Comparing this QX80 test to the others is w/out merit. The Escal. and Navi. were pulling a nice, aerodynamic trailer, not this contraption with a wind-grabbing Bronco on it. That made all the difference in the world or, at least, the tests aren't equal. He also mentioned that he could "feel there's something back there" ... same reason, because of all the wind resistance!

    The QX80 is NOT based on the Armada platform, It's based on the Nissan Patrol which is built in Japan and is not available in the US and is a more refined platform than the Titan/Armada platform. Another thing is that the the Nissan Patrol is designed for good amount of offroading which might be the reason for the first gear ratio and makes it beat any other competitor off road.

    Why oh why, when doing a head to head (to head), wouldn't you use the same exact trailer? The drag co-efficient is significantly different on this compared with the slippery horse trailer. At 60+ mph, aerodynamics are hugely important. I've read how much drag is created by air traveling over and under a vehicle. In this case, you have drag over and under the pilot vehicle, the trailer, and the vehicle on the trailer.

    Interesting that you guys did not use a weight distribution hitch and then complained that the rear end wiggled a bit when going over a bump. Anything over 5000 lbs requires a weight distribution hitch. Pretty careless I'd say considering this.

    Hey Roman, I think that's a great idea to update the Bronco. Give it a minor restoration and make sure everything mechanically runs flawlessly. Ever watch the show Wheeler Dealers on Velocity? They're based out of England and they restore cars like that back to showroom condition while on a budget. I think something like that would be perfect for the Bronco. Also, I enjoyed the Infiniti video.

The other trailer is "aerodynamic" and this… well… has the front of the bronco to break air... maybe it´s nothing… just a thought… and to the bronco restoration... what about the lincon? That´s an awesome car and the family history is great! I think that that car is a classic… big classic car… and Nathan, don’t get frustrated about the bad comments, some people don’t know how to express their thought thru the keyboard and that make the comment sound aggressive… and maybe it wasn´t the case… on some they are just a**holes. The QX is a great towing truck. In fact, all the trucks they test here from Toyota Tacos to F-150s are great trucks. 8 minutes at an average of 55mph up the gauntlet is phenomenal. Every road isn't as taxing as the gauntlet. Most roads are either flat or have very moderate grades. These fools are so quick to call something "not a great towing truck". You test something under one condition and then judge it? Are you high?

    • @gmrtg1414
      @gmrtg1414 9 років тому +2

      Jay Trock the resale value is crappy compared to the Yukon. I've owned two f150 EB's and both have matched the window stickers fuel numbers as long as you drive with a light foot. The twins do drink fuel when towing no question about it but the .5 difference isn't as much as I would've thought. They did the same test with a Silverado and f150 and the ecoboost was faster in that test as well. The biggest problem is the 8 speed is always up and down shifting.

I might be wrong here, but it seems as though your channel is getting a little tunnel-vision (pun intended). There is a lot about this luxury SUV that I care a lot more about than just how much, and how fast it is at carrying a heavy weight over the continental-divide. The same thing with the Lexus LX 570. I would think that most people who would actually buy either of these SUV's, doesn't give a crap about your Ike-Gauntlet. So, if you really want your channel to be nothing but towing tests, than just keep doing what you are doing. Good luck.

    80k? That 80k would be much better spent on an Escalade.That chrome in the interior is so cheesy. I bet it's plastic.

      Joseph Griveas car companies don't care about the nationality of the buyers and I don't care about the nationality of the car, good luck finding something good and affordable that is 100% made in one country

      The QX80 (formally known as the QX56) has one of the best interiors you can buy in its category. Perhaps you did not watch the video? They even say that it has some of the softest touch materials in a "truck"
