I still can’t believe that ea hasn’t figured out vr for both this game and its f1 series. I have a 4080 and even then it’s still not as good as it should be.
You'd think in 2024 it wouldn't be that hard, it's not like VR is new?!

3080ti i9 9900k oc to 4.2ghz 48gb ddr 4 using dpvr e4 at 72hz via steam vr. Turn upscaler OFF! Anisotropic 16x, ground cover and shadows off, crowd low, mirrors off, post processing high. I’m having a great time! The graphics are a huge downgrade, but it’s definitely clear enough to sim race and see corners into the distance and I currently have two world records and only had it less than two weeks! My Fanatec gear recognised straight away and simagic handbrake recognised straight away. Ffb physics very very similar to Dirt Rally 2.0, graphics big down grade, sound a downgrade BUT hundreds of miles of awesome new stages I bought it for £18 and I love it even with the downgrades.
So in the end it basically looks like Richard Burns rally 🎉 congrats developers and epic for this amazing unreal engine. No improvement since dirt rally 👏

Thanks Karl, I was teetering on buying in the sale, but it honestly doesn't look significantly better than other rally games that I already own.
Agreed mate, I still play DR2.0.
I discovered the hard way that 72hz, especially in today's modern games, is a direct ticket to motion sickness, followed by several hours of feeling like scum.
I do have what would definitely be considered a "high-end" rig, but, based on the comments of at least one other 4090 user here, I think I'll wait to see if EA makes the VR aspect less wobbly than it sounds like it currently is before trying it.
Because I like not feeling like I've been kicked from a high cliff, then stomped on repeatedly.
It really depends on the person for me personally it would take a lot to get motion sickness and also on the headset used for example bigscreen beyond headset m-oled panels at 75hz is way different in regards to that when compared to lcd panel headsets.
For some it's the lock to horizon option that prevents getting motion sickness
Unfortunately it's still not good enough and I have a 4090. This is the first VR version of a sim that I'm actually slower in VR.

and content manager and csp. that not only massively improved ac visually, but also lots of performance optimizations. ac looks and performs amazing in vr.
Took me a month and lot of googling..got it perfect now..72 frames steady..and crisp using Pico 4 with usb cable
Quest 2 on a 5600x and RX6900xt with 16gb ram, runs perfectly at 90htz. On medium and high settings. I use Oculus Tray Tool turn ASW off, set pixel density to 1.4. Quite happy with it.
I suppose it has to work well for someone?! lol
@@KarlGosling to be fair Karl it hasn't been easy, lots of experimenting with settings and reading a lot what other people have tried, the Quest 2 has such a narrow field of view that even sat in the car it feels like tunnel vision, also play with that "mask" setting in the game to reduce unnecessary screen and free up some pixels.
the quest really needs alot more than 10gb VRAM, its just too much for the 3080 to do, shame as when not in VR the 3080 will stand toe to toe with a 3090. that said iv sacked them both off and got a 7900xtx and 6950xt in my rigs, stunning performance! great stuff as always mate, glad to see ya back on he WRC horse as its a great game!

I have a 9700k OC to 5Ghz and 3080ti with an Valve Index. I got a stable 90 FPS. I ran with SteamVR at 100% resolution ( no upscaling ). On gaming I set medium settings, DLSS must be OFF and Foveation Strength to 3 otherwise graphics quality and FPS drop.... 90 FPS stable with around 0.5 % reprojection is not that bad... Obviously graphics quality it's not fantastic but is playable.
i never found that dialing up the resolution scale in steamvr actually made my games look better. less jaggies maybe idk. i never got dirt rally2 to look good in vr period, and i bet that this is the best wrc2024 will look in vr knowing EA..
Yeah also the VI is low res by todays standards so makes things a fair bit easier too.
@@n9ne try open xr tookit, and the eye accommadation mod (which has a setting to remove shimmering from trees). it looks damn good. really damn good.

So I was excited to try Ea Sports WRC VR on my Oculus Rift S (yea, quite old VR headset) and im in similar boat.
my PC is on High End specs end, so I gave the game a go on highest settings possible. I havent seen any single hiccup or framerate drop, which is good - on 3 stages.
But still... Image quality is not there. I find Dirt Rally 2 VR to be in much better condition. I can see whats ahead of me.
In Ea Sports WRC I prefer driving flat. I really hope this will be better in the future. As for now the experience in my opinion is lackluster.
I think DR 2.0 was in the same boat when it released initially i could not even get it to run on 3090 decently on high not until i upgraded to 4090 it ran how i wanted it to in VR. Guess wait for 6090? lol
Yeah a older low res headset and a high spec PC is probably going to be fine... any modern headset and it'll struggle.
I managed DR2.0 on medium/high settings with a 2080 but I was on a CV1 so again low res.

I've been wondering whether the performance would be any better using a proper PCVR headset with a displayport? Or does the extra effort that the GPU has to make to compress the image after rendering it is negligible?
Zero difference, there's an additional dedicated video encoder on our GPU's for this.
My brother tried to run it with a 2070 super. Of course he had no chance xD Im still hoping for triple screen support
i happily used a 2070 super for years with dirt rally 2.0, i even enjoyed dirt rally 1 with a damn gtx1060. if a 3080 ti is not enough, something is wrong. this is super disappointing.
Thank god my average pc with 3070 runs Rsf Rbr with reverb g2 nicely, solid 90fps all the time.

i own rtx 3090 a rtx 4070 and a rx7800xt between me and two bairns who take my old stuff and honestly i see no diff between all 3 of them in racing am not exactly watching frame rates etc but overall you cant tell at least my old eyes cant
It looks like a VR prototype from 2014 and runs like absolute booty. Meanwhile DR2 looks and runs beautifully, what a shame. And EA has the nerve to call the VR a "beta" but it will never get better unfortunately.

I got my settings figured out to stay at 90FPS at night and rain with good image on a Geforce 3080ti
Dynamic objects on medium is the lowest you should go there and then just work your way up from low with all the other settings. The game allows to change all graphics on a stage so it is a mtter of seconds to adjust graphics while maintainig desired FPS.
Furthermore, it is important to change the Engine.ini file for turning down the exposure.
It is the best racing experience I have ever had once everything finally worked.
Also they might have changed upscaling because it was very blurry before but DLSS works good now and smoothes out the image.
Far easier just to play DR2.0 which looks way better and requires no messing around IMO.

This WRC game is definetly an absolute blast though running on 90 FPS at night with rain and a decent looking image on a 3080TI and a HTC vive pro 2 on 100% resolution.
I get your point I had to tinker around alot, especially lowering the exposure through the engine.ini file makes a big difference to see where you are going like you mentioned in the video but the game is still suffering from occasional crashes.
I guess you are correct, from a plain plug and play perspective this not it which is a big shame considering the mighty and well funded brands behind this wrc game.
With tinkering and patience to mess around it does offer an incredible driving experience though in comparison to a heavily modded Assetto Corsa which I usually drive.

I have nothing nice to say about this vr mode, had my rant at it on video, such a damn shame, the TLDW is this is made with deferred rendering which is why, even with absolute high end, it will look and perform like utter crap.
I tried it in steam vr but I have this transparent box in front of my screen on my headset at all times I’m not sure how to get it off so I can’t even play the game in vr

Probably not what most people have but it looked okay to me on bigscreen beyond on a 4090 75hz DLSS Quality sharpness set to 100 and other settings on high. I suspect Quest 3 being not displayport.. compression does not help for sharpness. Do try DLSS Quality with sharpness 100 see if it helps and set foveated to 0. This 1.8.1 update broke my wheel settings again and not sure how to fix it none of my wheel buttons work have to use controller to use menus etc this game continues to be a buggy mess in those regards.
It's not the compression that was the issue (obviously I have many PCVR sims and games to compare too), it's just that I have to turn everything down so low to get a solid 72fps.
60fps in 2024 for vr is definitely a no go for me.

4090 Q3… it’s doesn’t matter, it looks pretty bad and has stutter struggle regardless. Tried everything, it’s just not there yet and might not ever be.

I really think you're stretching the word "average" when describing your 3080 rig. It might not be a new GPU but it's significantly better than what the average Steam user has.
I feel like EA have swung and missed with this. Sim racing in VR shouldn't need a rocketship of a computer and Reiza proved that with Automobilista 2.
so true, 3080 with specs to match is a 3x a ps5 price.. why cant we just have AMS2 but in rally..??? i mean rally should have it easier with no other drivers to render in..
Yeah you're right about the average Steam user but the average PCVR owner will have something from say a 2080 upwards or they wouldn't be able to run their headsets which is kind of what I was thinking.
Looks and performs worse in VR than five year old Dirt Rally 2? Wtf have they been doing at EA? :D Rally sim racing is one of my favorite things to do, but I'm not gonna touch this until they vastly improved it.
Yeah it's horrible.
I can tell from how you were complaining how "pixelated" it looked that you are running anti-aliasing on low or medium. To get rid of pixelation, you have to put it on high/epic/cinematic
Of course, that makes it blurry instead, which you just have to brute force away with raw resolution. Which means even 72hz might be out of the question at that point.
With a Radeon 6800xt I'm playing on a WMR headset at a locked 60hz, mostly medium settings, with cinematic AA. Except post processing low, mirrors ultra low, track and shaders at high. Also with vertical hidden area mask set to 70 to reduce the FOV and thus rendering load. And foveated rendering set to 3.
If you have a HP Reverb or Samsung Odyssey HMD, I recommend trying those settings. The track will be more readable. You'll have to use Open XR Tools (found in Windows store) to tweak the resolution sent to your headset until you can hold a locked 60fps.
Part of the problem here is that using upscaling in the game, whether temporal or DLSS, breaks some of the rendering in the game for most headsets. Hopefully that is fixed in the next patch. Because upscaling should be able to retain some detail at low resolution better than you'd be able to just running a lower resolution to the headset.
Sadly for me 60fps is way too low, I'd be sick.
Haven't played VR since dirt rally 2, excited to try this!
i bought because i was waiting for vr, i wont play itwithout vr. that doesnt interest me at all. but with a 3080ti and hp reverb g2 the performance and visuals are shit. i would return it but i got it on sale so if they magically released a patch that improves vr, i would have to buy it again at a higher price. this might end up being one of those games you buy but never play. im looking forward to playing some dirt rally 2.0 at least, its been a while.
I've gotten it to run ok but still kinda potato. I used some guys setup for making ACC run absolutely perfect in VR and tried in on EA WRC. So ok.... not more than that

The Quest 2/3 compression is not helping either, Should try on a native pc VR to compare.
It's just that I had to run everything on such low settings mate, obviously I have many PCVR sims and games all playing on my Q3 to compare.
o well im sorry you did not like it . i dont think they will do a proper triple screen support . i am in the same boat whit F1 2023 no triples support and its pissing me off but i do play on AMS2 and the F1 is great in the game .

Unteal engine was a bad choice. Look at Automobilista it works. ACC doesn't look great either. Since years the same issues with AA. I don't see a bright future with unreal
Glad someone is testing this in VR. I deleted the game within the first week since it was lacking vr support. Guess I'll wait some more before trying it out again. Thanks EA for making garbage products and ruining what could have been an amazing title :(
They made a hughe mistake going for Unreal Engine 4 vs 5 that engine in general is really bad for stutters in most games.

Wireless never looks great if you stream from pc, the latency is too bad for racing not to mention compression rate. Get the cable and it looks amazing. On 3070ti I'm maxed out and it looks extraordinary if you don't account for minimal screen door effect. 3080 is not average spec at all :)

@@Zaroff91 Clearly haven't tried it. It will never work well, especially in wifi congested area like uk. The difference is like day and night, despite using wifi 6 and dedicated router.
Zaroff91 is correct, my dedicated wireless network adds 5ms! I live on a farm with no other networks for miles and a separate 2.4ghz network for my phone, even though that is literally the only other wifi device in the house.

@@KarlGoslingI completely agree with that in every single way, but for myself, I am never touching this game ever again because of one of their performance issues and two of their horrible lightning, and the game is a bit too blurry.
Worst VR implementation in VR history. Not even worth trying. 72hz/no proper anti aliasing/no stable frame rate/much worse gfx than DR2, it's unplayable for me on my 4090 in VR no matter how much I tweak it. This should have been build on forward rendering + MSAA. Terrible.

the game just looks like garbage in VR no matter what settings you put, no matter what pc specs and gear you have. its just trash. like they hired that person that could do it cheaper. the, no we got this at home option. massive disappointment. no excuse not even for beta with how long we have had VR and all the other games that can run VR no problem.

I have a 4090 and a 5800X3D and this game is hardly playable even in non VR. This game, for me, has been the biggest let down of 2023 and still holds that title in 2024. It was just a trainwreck on all ends for me. It's been a month or two since I've open the game...maybe updates have gotten it up to being a decent game. Gimmie Dirt 2.0 over this any day though!
