Been using this for last couple of years, stained light oak to match oak dining table, all the bells and whistles, plus bass shakers all round, absolutely fantastic 👍
Couple of guys in my team run the RSR rig and the team is sponsored by them. They are incredible pieces of engineering and look stunning when built. They are, as the company suggests in its name, utterly rock solid. The thing weighs a ton. If you're looking for something different and perhaps less.. utilitarian and more furnituresque, this is the rig for you.
I have a Rock Solid Rig 21 and yes it took a bit of time to put it together but well worth it. Really impressive rig and very happy with the looks of the rig and I can confirm its solid.
Think I’d spray it black. Great idea tho.. Dave Cam’s showed a version of this on his channel also.. not sure if it was the same model or not… Good review as always Karl. Cheers..
I just visited their page. It looks like they have only one model that you can configure with monitor stands, optional pedal risers etc. It reminded me of laser cut model airplanes :-)
I really like this product. The fact you can just make holes or cut out a peace makes this very desirable to me. Also over time you could easily replace parts. Great review as always. 👍👍👍
The little bit of movement from the shifter mount can easily be fixed with a properly located wood screw once you have everything set where you want it.
I wonder how heavy and strong this would be if it was made out of same spec steel?! geeked. the flatpack though does make it seem very modern, and DIY like an IKEA cockpit. lol great video.
If I had a log cabin in Swiss mountains, that would be a perfect addition to it 😃it does look impressive to be honest. When I saw it at the beginning of the video, I thought it might be a bad idea to use wood. Looks way more rigid than I anticipated. Additionally, there seem to be some extra benefits - like getting extra drills would be way easier than in the aluminum base plates. I believe to a certain degree that would allow drilling in the cockpit itself as well. Second interesting part would be the custom paints - aluminum extrusions go mostly silver or black where with the wood and paint sky is the limit. There are also 2 things which I am wondering: first is the longevity of wood and how long could such rig actually last. The other thing is the humidity and if could that play any role in the rig getting smaller / bigger. I have wooden planks in the garden fence and depending on the weather it is noticeable that in certain conditions it gets gaps in between it when the wood shrinks. Of course these are different circumstances as the wood is outside to the outdoor conditions but it made me wonder if months where the humidity is higher/lower could affect the small holes and drills in any way.
I finally switched from controller to a G29 after watching your channel. But I’m currently using a side table as my mount…got a spare folding cockpit by any chance 😂 currently looking at gt lite as im bigger guy. But just don’t have the £200 right now.
Never seen or heard anything quite like it .Personally I'd advise anyone who cant afford an aluminium profile rig to get a tubular one like the Titan but I'll keep an open mind .I've got a friend in the States who built a wooden rig himself from scratch and wanted me to do the same but I got a GT Omega prime and love it.
Nice review, I like the design but was ready to dump on it a bit just for the cost - that would have been hasty! Seems a fairly easy design to create a poor mans DIY copy so went looking at material costs. If its truly using birch throughout plywood, and assuming for a DIY copy design you would need two sheets, that looks like it will set you back around £250 before you factor in other hardware. I wonder how it would do as a light(er) weight base for a motion rig. It doesn't look like it would have enough torsional stiffness to resist twist but could be wrong!
Hey Karl, I know y'all play a lot of Dirt Rally 2.0. I have the Asetek La Prima bundle but can't find any good Racehub settings for Dirt. Would you have any you'd recommend? Thanks in advance
Karl, in your opinion, would this rig be compatible with the Slip Angle Haptics kit? I know I want to go with the Slip Angle kit, but I'm worried how the transducers/springs would connect to this rig (and, if the wood would be as good as metal at transmitting the vibrations). 🫤
Yay, cat person! I've heard quite a few people brag about how rigid their homemade wooden rigs are. I believe them all. It's the adjustability that's the problem. Every connection point is a weak spot. Let's face it, 15 or 20nm isn't a whole lot of torque, when you think about it, being applied to any solid piece of aluminum, steel or wood. I had to put 80 ft lbs on every Honda lug nut I reinstalled. With that being said, when it comes to tolerances, it's far easier and less expensive to get a rigid pairing between two pieces of wood than it is with two pieces of metal. It just doesn't look as cool. I've watched too many reviews that show beautifully engineered metel rigs, that seemed to fall prey to loose fittings. That's not quite as important with wood being soft. They seem to have come up with an intelligent way of keeping the adjustability, and making use of its structural benefits with quality hardware. I could actually see this being the next big thing. It has a wow factor that's not quite as obvious from a distance. Up close it's a very interesting design. I'd have to stain it to match my furniture before I assembled it. Mount a drink holder. Maybe some artwork with the Dremel😅 Another great video my friend!
I'd like to see them pre painted black and cheaper .If they're not made in China that should bring the unit price down .The weight would be a good selling point btw ali profile rigs weigh an absolute ton.Great review as ever and I 'll keep an eye out for RSR
I'm mainly tempted by this due my flat always being cold and a metal rig takes bloody ages to get the chill out of when I fire it up, £420 is still a bit rich for me tho Just dawned on me that my cats would fucking love it after seeing your one walk past they'd use it as a scratching post first chance they got haha
Aluminium is energeticly neutral, it steals polarisation from materials around, from you. With long term harm to health. Bravo for wood. Myself I havea steel cockpit.

Dave Cam had one of these for a while. Very nice looking rig.
The best part of this review, is that there is a TE under the TV. Who knew Karl was into fighting games.
Well spotted mate! A TE2+ in fact and I now have a pair of them, Street Fighter is all I play, been into it since SF2 released back in the early 90's!

Awesome review Karl! Looks like a super cool cockpit for all those wooden rig enthusiasts out there, I'm really surprised by how solid it is.
Yeah I was impressed!
350 seems a little steep, excellent review Karl!💯
Compared to what? This is far more adjustable and sturdy than most aluminum profile e
Rigs for hundreds less.
Compared to a GT Omega Prime Lite it's a touch choice.

It was the same model. Just a heads up, applying any stain or paint to this rig voids the warranty.

im surprised it actualy works , good review mate !

Would look quite elegant if it were made of a stained mahogany.
and make 10x more expensive.
You can always stain it to manhogany colour yourself as it's wood

If you used steel, spec'd to match, you'd probably be looking at a couple hundred pounds at least....

Il y a pas assez de variation de température pour avoir un impacte sur le bois, dans des conditions normal d'une maison isolée correctement.

Great idea, also I think it would be much easier to customize this or even make your own parts since its from wood

Yeah it's this or a GT Omega Prime Lite... very tough choice is you like wood!
Could you add a section to your reviews that show you getting in and out of the rig? Thanks for the vids have a great day.
Yeah sure thats no issue as I do it every time and it's always on camera too!
Thanks@@KarlGosling
Hey Carl! Are'nt you thinking in some motion rig?... Oh I see you already got that. 😊

Yeah and of course they do need to make a profit too.
luv the cat and the vids
Thanks!
Karl rounding the head of your allen keys is a skill issue lol 😅 so in Canada this rig is over $500 ! for two sheets of plywood
"a good tradesman never blames his tools"... Sounds like Carl has a "you problem"...
It's neither a skill issue or a me problem when the material is too soft to achieve the correct torque... it's a quality problem! lol
@@KarlGosling 😁
Honestly 2 hours or so isn't bad for ANYTHING flat pack, I'm impressed
Yeah i was expecting longer to be honest!
Awesome idea I think and I really like it but to ship it here to USA PA I’m looking at a total of almost 500$ so that kinda kills it
Yeah shipping is always going to bump things up a bit.
@KarlGosling have you seen the CSL cockpit announcement?
The cat steal the show lol
Always! lol
Hello, I was looking at RSR website and the"side walls" is is one peice, maybe the have change to this to make even more stif???
It certainly looks that way doesn't it, would have to come in packaging twice the length but it would solve the shifter mount issue.
I'm sure it is pretty solid. But, it just looks more like a contraption than a Racing Simulator. Maybe painting it black might help???
Hey Karl, I know y'all play a lot of Dirt Rally 2.0. I have the Asetek La Prima bundle but can't find any good Racehub settings for Dirt. Would you have any you'd recommend? Thanks in advance
If you swapped the seat and pedal base to the opposite ends would the shifter mounts fix to the more solid side of the riser.
The seat end of the base is longer so I'm not sure it would fit, but you could try!
@@KarlGosling oh ok didn't realise. It looks symmetrical at a glance. Great looking rig.

I think it would be fine, you'd just need to bolt them on.
Wood is used as audio cabinets so I don't see why not.
I wonder if bass transducers transfer more effectively on a rig like this? (If you isolated it from the floor with feet or something)
Hmm interesting question!
Is the Upshift R-Pro next on your review list?
I'd not seen that before but looking at it the uprights are going to flex badly, they are only held in place by two corner brackets!
@@KarlGosling there's hardly any flex, I have one and can confirm. Definitely worth a look.
More cat content pls.
Does it come in black?
