As a former inside sales representative who has made a lot of cold calls and emails to businesses, I think these tips are on point. One thing to remember about cold emails is to not dwell on the non-responses. It only takes one yes to cancel out all the frustration of 100 nos and non-responses. A non-response is not a judgment on you personally. Oftentimes, it's not you, it's them.
I’m not in tech, but this is exactly what I did when I was trying to navigate a career shift. Most people were super helpful and responsive once I started writing clearer emails, and it led to a bunch of great connections and eventually my current job. Definitely a skill worth developing, even though it’s scary at first
It's a little frightening at first, but what do you have to lose?
Mayuko getting multiple cold emails after this 😂
The colder, the better 😂👍
You have no idea how timely this video was in searching for my first entry level dev job - thank you.
Simu Liu became Shang Chi from a cold tweet to Marvel!*
In all seriousness, this is great advice. You've nailed down all the reasons why I personally haven't cold emailed, and now I feel confident in doing it
*He didn't actually but he did tweet them in 2018 😄, and the movie is awesome!!
«Cold» communication takes a bit of courage but builds some as well 😊💪
Networking can be scary but you might just end up with a friend (or a dreamjob?) and I’ll be damned if that aint the best incentive.
Title and vid really on point today Mayuko, had to click asap ✨
Great tips in here that everyone should follow. Many folks online are surprisingly nice, and a new connection never ever hurts. One additional tip if you want to reach the next level and cold email/dm someone who is pretty busy or higher profile is to 👏add👏value!! For example, if you're a video editor and you want to reach out to a podcast host to help edit their videos, you could demonstrate your skills by editing one video of theirs. For OSS devs, you could try and tackle an issue in their project. It can be really tricky to think of ways to do this as a beginner but try and foster a unique skill and use it to help! Also, try to avoid asking someone to "pick their brain", it is played out and kinda weird sounding. You want to get to know someone, not administer a covid test lol
yesssss this 1000%!
Thanks for an encouraging video! I think email is still generally very difficult for anyone, but you can only learn from taking the risk to getting out of your comfort zone.
This sounds like awesome advise. I'm looking to transition into data science from finance and will definitely leverage this info when networking. Thank you!
I've cold-linkedin and cold-email just like you've described in this video. A lot of my current professional life has precipitated from this type of cold emailing/messaging.
There's so much value in learning how to network and communicate effectively and I love that you take the time to cover things like cold-emailing, especially for younger folks.
Making those connections sooner rather than later are super important, amazing video!
This was actually really helpful for a professional situation I’ve been trying to figure out how to approach. Thank you so much!!
I'm gonna try doing this more as I transition from data analytics to software engineering. Thanks for the excellent video as always Mayuko.
Loved the examples. It always helps me get started on things I’m on comfortable with when I can see how others might approach it.
This was amazing to watch! Thank you for making this video, it’s super comfortable to listen to you talk and every point is relevant and well laid out. :)
Awesome video! Networking is extremely important in today's world. I know a couple of folks that got job referrals because of their network.
Definitely will try this out myself too! Thanks for sharing Mayuko!
This was perfect timing!! Thank you for this Mayuko! This was so helpful.
Just wanted to say thanks for the great advice as I have currently been in the process of a search for a career in Software Development.
as someone who has to do this constantly these days to stay afloat in my industry (an industry that went from 1y or 6mos contracts to basically a gig economy, and struggling to even think of how to switch fields) and it's my personal kryptonite, this is so helpful. Cold emailing has me in a panic like nothing else because I never know how to word things in a corporate-speak non-cringe way.
This was always something I struggled with - knowing what I actually want from someone and assuming people would help me figure it/myself out when I would talk to them. Also not taking into account others' communication skills. Though I wish, if it were a team thing rather than the networking talked about in this video, that people would take into account that I also have a communication style they should also attune to instead of just dismissing it in stronger preference of their own 😂
thank you, this is my first time ever watching you - I don't know how UA-cam knows this but I needed this. I really needed this.
Thanks for the tips and especially for Calendly.. I never knew how to handle these annoying LinkedIn situations like: "When do you have time...?" "Nope.. pick another date.. nope another one please..."
I’ve met future coworkers and friends like this, definitely do it!
All this tips are like jackpot for all, who have been wanted to do this but had no idea how to approach. Great one mayuko 👍
I love your career advice videos, Thanks
this is very good advice! I do this whenever an opportunity comes up and it never disappointed me.
Great suggestion. The hardest part is pressing send. 😬
Thank you for sharing!
thanks for this video , it really helped !!
4:50 they do! lots of cold, cold responses as well
Thank you very much. Your videos help me .
I want to connect with people whether they are software engineers or not. I'm passionate about a lot of things. If someone does something impressive, then I want to encourage and support however I can.
P.S. I totally agree on spelling people's name correctly. Applies to all backgrounds.
Thanks for sharing advice
I've done cold emails for professors in prospective universities
But doing this for a job is scaring me...
If I as a professional got such emails it would probably make me happy so thanks for the advice!
Awesome! Great advice
Very insightful. After I graduated from college, I sent many DMs asking if anyone was hiring a web developer. I landed 2 free lance jobs from it.
hey mayuko! we don't have 10 mutual friends on social media but here goes nothing... want to join our awesome team? 👀
Learned something new today :)
Hey Mayuko, great video!
Would you mind sharing a few of your opinions and insights on how to get a job that offers a visa sponsorship and immigrate?
OMG you actually installed the backplate on the back of your Shure SM7B? Literally the only person I've ever seen who's done it, lol. I don't know what your channel is about but I'm subscribing just for this one reason. You're the type of person I like.
Awesome video!
Thank you for the helpful video. A quick question:
What should be the subject of the cold email?
Another amazing video :)
perfect suggestions
Thanks for the vid
this video is super helpful
Amazing insights
This is such a useful video
Love the style
Can totally relate to people misspelling the name. I didn't realize cold emails/dms are a thing, it just feels a little weird and like an intrusion in some way. Either way, I'd say I would not read emails that are too long or not even open the dms that have voice messages instead of text.
Seriously this is the best advice i've ever get about networking with people! Thanks for sharing
Love thissssssss Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Nice video 👍
Cap looks great on you
Hope everyone have a great day!!!!
Didn't expect to hear Blue Wednesday. Murmuration is one of my favourite songs.
the hat look is DOPE
Mayuko back at it again with the fire bomb fire
the worst feeling is _knowing_ somebody read your email, and ignored you...
Instasub, I LOVE your attitude.
Yea I also would like to add to that one more tip: send a lot of them (like 1000s) and dont think much about them not replying or saying gtfo. Also figure out a way how you can send a lot of emails and not get your email blacklisted so you would end up in everyones spam folder
Nice to see your video after a decade 😅
Great Video, Mayuko. Loved it !! 😇 BTW expect a cold email from me ..... 😅
RIP Mayuko’s inbox 🤣
But where do you get the email addys?
Wearing that baseball cap backwards is a total vibe.
we need two things: escalation and passive participation. escalation is where one email goes to the broadest group and then to narrower groups, and passive participation is where we have access to raw or derived logs of escalation. the idea is that we need to minimize opportunity costs simultaneously for everyone but not to the extent that it causes unsustainable structural changes to the entire system like the way freelance platforms could've but eventually didn't topple the 9to5 paradigm
Hi! How is your JLPT2 preparation going? :)
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
what's your new keyboard ?
Just think about it, people used to do this all the time but in person for... Getting to know people?. Unbelievable!.
Which mic is that?
💯
Your video color/brightness keeps shifting around the time 2:40. What is causing this?
Cold E-mailing is not scary.
But WHERE do you get those emails?
I was able to work on an app that was pitched to shark tank simply by emailing the owners.
🤗🤗🤗
plse share the mic model
What Mic Stand Is That ?
Welcome Aboard!
i love your nails =)
the background music is not helping to understand the spoken word
I am first❤️❤️
Love your content and have been following you for a long time.❤️

Youre a fuckin GEM mayuko! hire me :)
Man, that guy who quit his job to work for one of the Paul brothers could have used this video. lol
How do you write Mayuko wrong tho?
my Japanese lessons make unable to imagine lol
Where can I get her keyboard?
She owns a HHKB (US) Layout also known a a Happy Hacking Keyboard. You can check out Amazon, but her model is specifically a HHKB Hybrid Type S which allows for Bluetooth (up to 4 devices) and wired connection
Does anyone know Mayuko's birthday?!
Alright guys, you heard it. Let's bomb Mayuko's inbox.
Mayuko gives dating advice! 🤣 Now rewatch the video with this analogy. Wooowwww this is so on track.
Mayugo
"hi please be my friend" to beyonce 😆 solid joke

*Shoots mayuko a cold email after watching this vid*
