Metal Detecting The Man On The Moon

- Join me as I once again travel up the Shenandoah Valley to metal detect with my friends Rich and Tom. We explore some new territory and find some interesting artifacts. I found what I believe is an early Spanish silver coin that looks like it was carved into a silhouette of a person and maybe it's a representation of the Man On The Moon. I also found a brown Coca Cola bottle. I had to leave early because of a back problem, so did not get to video all of the finds from the trip at the end. If anyone has an idea what the silver coin carving may represent, please let me know.

The Coco-cola bottle you found is from 1905-1910. It is a rare bottle. If it is in perfect condition with no cracks be valued around 75 dollars. Awesome find.
back in the day before i was regulated to a battery wheel chair i did a lot of metal detecting in and around tucson, az. i mostly dectected on the city and county parks. have found handful after handful of pocket change. and lots of rings. one of which was a diamound solitar that appraised at 4700 hundred dollars. of course appraisels are usally in retail amounts. the julery store offered me 2150.00 for it but i declined. for some reason i only used whites detectors, (1980's ). in those days you had to have a permit to detect on city or county property, and some properties were off limits because of historical value. the permit cost five dollars one time charge. any way for the city to make a buck. one of the best finds i got was a large mexican gold coin dated 1888 and weighed 31.103xxxxx grams ( one ounce ) of 22k gold. it sure was a pretty thing to look at. that was in 1983 at the tucson reid park during the monsoon season and was sitting at about 14 inches below the surface. the detector sounded off like it was just below the surface.
That is a cheek piece inlay from a muzzleloader. The man in the moon was a common inlay. They would be inlayed with the face facing downward.
Great spot! Like one shown here: www.recreatinghistory.com/?portfolio=golden-age-gun-16
MrNienh you’re right just found the same one on the internet
I went out hunting today also. Found an 1899 Indian Head in the middle of a cow pasture. I hunted till it was just too cold...then I came home and hunted vicariously through your videos! 😁 Then, to my surprise, here's another video...YAY!
The silver "Man on the Moon" is an inlay from an early Virginia muzzle loading long rifle. It would have been tacked on the left side of the butt stock. I have seen them on a few rifles from your area over the years. A great find. Thanks for sharing the hunt.
This is the closest match I could find: www.redaviscompany.com/images/products/stockinlays.jpg
Here are some similar inlays:

lynn richards Or Manhattan 😂😂
The moon is an inlay found on the cheekpiece of a muzzleloading rifle. A great many inlays while being decorative were originaly hex symbols. The moon was inlayed points down to rain luck down upon the hunter. Other common inlays were 8 point stars, fish, acorns, shields, ovals, diamonds, etc.
Yay another video! My day is awesome now!
We watch your stuff daily, great films. Keep it up!!
Interesting permission. Excellent looking location but few good discoveries. Best of luck with future digs in this area. Looking forward to your next video.
Forgot your camera, wrong boots, and you almost poked your eye out, I was waiting for a bear mauling for the ending.
Feel better Beau
Always awesome, can't wait till the next vid.
Hey Beau, really enjoy your videos. Chill out, relax, heel the back, bring in the new year, and will see you next year with some awesome 2018 footage of relics and things! Happy New Year Beau!
Always a good day when a video comes out! Thank you for sharing your adventures with us :)
Great video Chigg! So sorry about your back, nothing to mess with! Rest up, we'll be here when you return! ❤️❤️
Hope your back feels better. Thanks for all the great videos! I always look forward to new ones.
Sweet bottle. Take it easy on your back!
The coin art looks like a profile. The holes lead me to believe it was on a small box or furniture. The brown coca-cola bottle is valuable. Take care of yourself. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year.
Nice straight side Coke bottle.
Cool find, excellent eye...moon art!
Great vid. You encouraged me to start digging, so recoup all you need.
Great video as always Chig!
Recently discovered this guy, love it!
Thanks for another great, educational video and best wishes for your back :)
Take care of your self chigg. Keep'em swingin!!!!

You Rock Chig...................................hope your back gets to feeling better. Come to Tennessee!
Thanks for the video and take care of your back.
Go take care of yourself. You deserve it. I appreciate your vlogs. They’re “GREAT”! Thanks a lot‼️👍
Enjoy your dig day. It's about 10 degrees below 0 for us Mainers today.
With the wind chill factor it was 85 in Santee Ca. bbbuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Might I suggest using a Salonpas product on your back. The jet spray or the lidocaine patches, work pretty well.
I love your videos, hope you feel better
Thanks for the video happy holidays beau !
Take care of yourself Chigg. See you in the next vixeo.
Great video! Sorry about your back. Get well soon dear Chigg
I've got one of those "beer bottle Brown" coke bottles! Made early in the 1900s and highly collectable. Good find congrats! The hobble skirt design wasn't made until 1915, by the Root glass co.
I hope you have a good chiropractor or massage therapist for your back. I have back problems myself and it can be so annoying. Thanks for another great video and please take care of yourself. Your adventures always make my day.
I have the same back, you feel it and know you have to get it under control or your toast for months.
Beau, I believe you need a check list for every different type of adventure!
Tuff day for Uncle Beau. Hope yr back and your eye feel better. That amber Coke is cool..
Very nice
Hope you feel better my friend.good video yet again.
Hi Beau, I have sympathy for your back because I have had 2 operations on my lower back to remove two crumbled discs and now have degenerative disc disease. I hope your back feels better soon. xx
Thanks for info,I know you know what you are doing.
Hope it,s just a minor spasm chigg.I know those things can turn in some pretty rough damage.take it easy looking forward to hearing from ya again soon.and thank you for taking time and trouble to make video,s for us to watch!
Neat Coca-Cola bottle. Never seen one like it before. I'm sure there might be more.
You sure do have fun😄👍
That looked like a great day of detecting.
Rusty Nails ....Hi Scott!
Feel better Beau~
He’s so close to 1m subs come on guys let’s get him there
Great video. Hope your eye and your back are ok. Take it easy.
Hope you feel better soon Beau.
Beau, I know what you mean about the bad back. Try the aleve TENs device at walgreens. It really has helped me reclaim a bit of my kife that my back took. Not expensive at all either.
Hope your back feels better. Enjoyed the video. I found two of those rivets last weekend. Was wondering what exactly they were.
Another great adventure. Always enjoy your videos! The silver piece with a face on it look's like a panel off a very early (Early to mid 1800's) pocket watch movement. Someone may have cut the face outline into it, or it could be like that from the watch maker.
Hope your back is ok. I have the same back problems, and if you are like me you know when the next day (or several days) is going to be a back pain nightmare.
That "moon" you found is probably a decoration somebody tacked on a musket, or a powder horn. The moon was oddly popular.
Get well soon beau 😊
Thanks for the video. Hope your back will be ok.
Sweet. Hey chigg, those straight side embossed amber cokes are worth some money. They were thin and most are broken. Ive never found a whole one. Sweet find. Ive havent found a new bottle dump all year. Dig some for us. Lol
Been there and done the stick in the eye thang a bunch
Nice find with the cut coin (?) And Coke bottle. Hope your back gets better.
I hope your back is feeling better :) Back problems are the worst...surgery is even worser....I had 2 discs removed from my neck (ACDF) a couple years ago and I still have neck pain...at least the excruciating pain down my arm was corrected. Unfortunately my entire spine is a mess and joints have gone to hell.... but heck we only have our body for so long.
I bet y'all will find a great many more interesting finds on that property before too long....would be neat to find some arrowheads and other indian artifacts.
See ya on the flip side :)
Take care :)
Enjoyed that - You should check out the coke bottle, seen a pic on Twitter showing the different designs them through the ages, think that's a pretty old one! Nice find
that half moon thing you found looks like it has 5 holes in it instead of 4 like you said. two of the holes are filled with dirt.
Great video. Hope your back gets feeling better chigg. Back problems are a pain in the butt. I have share of back problems.
Good to hear. keep the awesome videos coming.
Hope your back feels better with the Motrin. Never fun to go through nasty spasms or pain. I, too, have back problems; mostly the spine and nerve damage.
great channel !
Just to add to the human bone conversation. Though you may be able to own non-indigenous remains, in the field, once you reasonably suspect remains are human, it is a felony to disturb them further, nor can you just set them aside and keep digging. I have been crystal/ bottle digging and come across soil indicators that define an ancient burial, not a good feeling to stop, but better than the ju ju if I kept going. lol
No, I did not know that and darn Christmas just past.
The bit about the Indian bones cracked me up 😂
Dang it I told you to wear safety glasses!! Drill some tiny holes in both outer corners in the glasses so you can get air and they wont fog up!
Nice one. Take care 😩
Only the second time Beau gave me enough information to find the property he is at on google maps.
I know all about the back pain definitely not fun hope you feel better soon
Very nice video
Hope your back gets better soon.
My cat meows like crazy during your videos..
The piece of metal looks like a shoe heel tap used to make the heels wear longer.
Man I could spend hours in that trash pile looking for bottles. As has been said that Coke bottle is worth 75 to 100 bucks.
Love digging old trash piles and outhouses. You can find some pretty cool stuff.
You should have grabbed those old heart pine posts for kindling.
I've seen a lot of flintlocks with the old man in the moon profile.
see this historical.ha.com/itm/long-guns/muzzle-loading/scarce-golden-age-flintlock-kentucky-rifle-with-raised-carved-stock-attributed-to-john-orwin-carlisle-pa/a/6073-33068.s
That’s a great Coca Cola bottle
I have a friend who digs arrow heads all the time and he’s found whole Indian skeletons. He found a baby’s whole skeleton once but he always burys them right back where he finds them though.
Vintage brown Coca-Cola bottles run around $50.00. Not a bad find at all.
Hope you feel better.
I have to say something, I'm here with less than 100 views. Wife and I were just watching a previous video and I got this notification same thing happened yesterday. Fun catching up on all the previous videos.
Also, the videos under water help us fall asleep. They're relaxing.
20:19 The coca cola bottle you found is from 1900-1916.
I would love to see the sleeping quarters of your truck 🏴
Foarte tare succes! (Scuze ca nu am scris in engleza dar m-am grabit ,te ador)
From Cristian's Romanian "Very successful! (Sorry I did not write in English but I rushed, I adore you"
your half moon coin looks like flintlock but stock decorative
I live very close to there
I live in the Cumberland Valley not far from where you are.
Wow 😮
#REM man on the moon!
NEVER TOO YOUNG for take with lists one for home one for the truck
