Indians made war and lost. I don't understand why the modern position ignores that fact. Most Indian tribes fought among each other for hundreds, if not thousands, of years prior to the arrival of Europeans. Physical conquest was the way obtain land among the tribes, same as it was in Europe. If you cannot beat the neighbor, the neighbor takes your land...that model continues today.

I never learned anything like this in high school, but when I got to college I fell in love with history because I had a professor that had a similar teaching style as you. She led me to get a history degree just because her stories made me want to get out of the bed in the morning. Before I knew it, I had taken enough of her classes to get an additional degree. My daughters father Robert Humphrey, who has passed, wrote a book called Becoming Buffalo Snake, Remembrance of the Trail of Tears. He was Cherokee and walked the Trail backwards from Oklahoma to the East to bring the ancestors spirits home that were lost thanks to Jackson.

I’m glad you bring your podcasts to UA-cam Bailey, because *watching* you tell the stories is way more entertaining than just *listening* to the stories. So thank you! 💕💕💕

Hey there! I'm Creek and thought I'd give some info:
Creek, Mvskoke, Muscogee, or Muskogee is actually the name of our nation, and we have smaller tribes within it. So for example, I'm from the Mvskoke Nation, Poarch Band (my tribe) and the Wind Clan or Hotvlkvlke.
Creeks and Red Sticks are the same thing technically, because back in those days, our different towns were either considered "peace towns" or italwalgi (which were in charge of general governance) aka White Sticks and "war towns" or kipayalki (which were responsible for police-esque and wartime duties) aka Red Sticks. Most white stick towns were located farther south while Red Stick Towns could usually be found farther north. Because italwalgis were closer to the coast where colonizers first made contact, the people of peace towns started accepting + implementing those ways of life, whereas kipayalkis wanted to keep separate from the white people and preserve their traditional culture, tension was created when we started losing our culture. Fun fact: towns could "swap" status and become their opposite if needed.
The war and fighting you talked about was probably fought between either the Red Sticks and the white people/militia in the area (since their aversion to each other created wariness + tension) or Red Sticks from one town and other Natives (since italwalgis and kipayalkis never fought each other as a general rule).
"Creek" is actually the name white people called us when they found us settled along the waterways. Mvskoke/Maskoki (same pronunciation but different spelling) is what we call ourselves. Muskogee and Muscogee are the English spellings. I don't mind being called Creek because it's what all the white people I grew up with called me, but some from my nation do prefer to be called Mvskoke.
Thank you for using your platform to give a little spotlight to the Mvskoke people as we really need it right now since our language is nearly extinct and we're doing major work right now to teach new speakers. If our language dies, a part of our culture dies, and so a part of our people would die. Educating people that we still exist really helps, especially since so many are reconnecting these days! Keep up the great work, Bailey! Love your videos sm. Mvto (thank you)!

Wow I never knew this. My great grandmother was “Creek” (although I never met her) and I’ve never really met that side of the family. So I never knew that they were actually called Maskoki. Thank you for that information!

Also thanks for this info. I really treasure learning about native people and the real story from different tribes. I'm close to the Ojibwe tribes, there's just so much more to uncover and learn.
