Hello! Yes, you can use a regular poly bag for first class. If you have an ebay store subscription you might get a shipping supplies coupon with your subscription in which you can use to get free polybags. Correct, there are not free first class shipping supplies at the post office.

Thank you for the video. I thought that if something weighed 1 pound, 7 ounces that you automatically rounded up to 2 pounds? I have yet to list my first item on eBay bc of the shipping is so confusing.

@@Robin-gf7bd okay, that is the best explanation I can give on shipping. You might make some mistakes but it's worth it to learn.
All my ebay items are charged by buyers location and weight so when I do shipping everything is pre weighed encluding packaging and I've never had to do the box or polymailer dementions. Never had a problem with anything getting where it needs to go.
The dimensions are just to make sure you don't go over the priority mail limits.

So when you’re doing the dimensions for your package, would you measure the length x width x height by yourself for each item or would you just use the dimensions labeled on the box / Amazon poly mailer?
I think I am struggling with securing those measurements.
I would just use the package supply dimension. The most important thing is that you stay within the max dimensions for priority mail. If you go over that you have to report it and pay for it. So if you have something abnormally large you'll definitely want to put in super accurate dimensions. But otherwise, you can measure your bags and estimate a height that you usually average. I don't think it's necessary to measure every package as long as your dimensions are close. All of the priority mail branded shipping supplies are within the safe dimensions. Hope this makes sense.
Thank you great video, I sell on Posh, Marketplace, Mercari and Ebay. Ebay STILL drives me nuts with shipping. My problem is there are SO many options when setting up the listing, did you go in and delete some of your shipping options ? I know there is way to do it but cant figure it out so there are not hundreds that pull up when making a listing.

I believe you can use the flat rate priority boxes for cheaper priority weight n location - just cross out the flat rate or put stickers over. It’s still being shipped priority n still was a free box. I’ve done it accidentally w/o crossing anything out and it was delivered no problem.
- eBay USPS Priority shipping was so easy in the early yrs- buy a mug for .50 cents put it in a small cube priority box, ship at one cheap price anywhere in 48 states. Then shipping charges went up by location, flat rate boxes went up like crazy. The x-large C box was discontinued and the cube box disappeared frm our Post Office. It’s the Coastal areas that were killed on shipping cross country.
I'm not sure if you can or not. But we seem to get by with the ones we have so far. I also try to save Amazon boxes whenever I can to reuse.

I think I've probably overpaid for my shipping for most of what I have sold so far. I have a full time job but I love the idea of selling on ebay so I'm doing it on my days off and before work. eBay is kind of tricky but you are right we will make mistakes in the beginning. I actually undercharged on a large item because I wasn’t aware of changing the box for priority 😩 but anyways, thank you for this video!

Wow, I’ve been shipping all wrong. I thought that if it was priority, that I can use any priority package whether it be an envelope or box. I don’t weigh anything. I let ebay do the calculation.
The only thing you didn’t mention is global shipping program. I don’t know why there are times that I can’t select the global shipping program.

I rarely use ebay for shipping >1lb. Its so much cheaper to use pirateship. I use flat fee shipping. When I started for the first probably 6 months I did calculated shipping. This helped me realize what the cost actually were. - now I do flat fee for weight 4oz $4.50, 8oz $5.50, 12oz $6, >13oz 6.50. $9 for padded flat rate, etc. I am not trying to make money on shipping but not lose money as well! I think this fair for me and buyer. And but priority cubic is way cheaper on pirateship! Yesterday and pair of 3lb boots on ebay was $14.89, on pirateship it was $10.09! So much savings!!
Do you link your ebay sales to pirate ship? One of the main reasons I don't do that is because i don't want to have to keep going back and forth to see which is cheaper. Is there an easy way to check? Good tips!
I made a lot of mistakes in the beginning. I had no idea the Priority "bag" was not the Flat Rate envelope. Plus not charging enough made me want to give up. Oh and also not having the shipping supplies needed when I sold something. HUGE issue if you are serious about eBay it can ruin your rating if not shipping on time. It just takes time & determination to figure out the shipping. But now that I know about shipping I cannot believe people buying items off Poshmark pay what they do for very light tops! But for shoes & heavy sweaters Poshmark shipping is a huge savings (for the buyer) How do you charge shipping? Is it already determined in your listing or do calculated? I weight my items when I bag them so I can list them correctly but I do not weight with the mailer. I should probably change that actually. I have an awful time figuring out what to do when something with the packaging is like 1.03 lbs do you ship as priority due to that .03? I do but not sure if I need to since it is not over by an ounce. Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! I do calculated shipping paid for by the buyer. If you're total package weighs 1.03 you are supposed to round up and unfortunately that would push you into priority mail.
