Thanks, James, for another outstanding and inspirational video! I recently read a blog post from Bruce Percy, a favorite Scottish landscape photographer, who became immensely frustrated with the labs he was using ruining his film. He’s been using medium format reversal film for over 30 years, and describes in this post how he just now decided to start processing himself. He ordered a very interesting automated machine that can do E-6 processing of Medium and large format film. Each unit is custom built so he’s waiting to receive his.
I really want to thank you again, James, for your effort in producing these instructional videos. They are foundational and will be viewed by serious students of film for years to come.
Thank you so much! I would love to read that blog post, do you have a link? Thanks as always for watching and giving your feedback, I really appreciate it.
Thank you for this video I did find it entertaining. However, I don't see myself going back to film. I shot black and white 35 mm film back in the '80s and processed it myself, like you, in a small bathroom. I can still smell the acetic acid to this day!
Haha hard to forget that smell! I can definitely understand not wanting to shoot film. For me it's just a great way to slow down my process and be in the moment. Something I'm not always great at. Thanks for watching!
@@MrNegative I lied...no, I was just premature in saying I'll never go back to film. I have developed a keen interest in pinhole cameras and will start off with one that uses120 and maybe get another one that uses 4x5 sheets later. Just out of curiosity, where do you buy your B&W film? Local? Online? Any suggestions on where to buy 4x5 sheet film holders for a 4x5 camera? I was surprised at how much they cost. Thank you.
That’s great! I price shop constantly for film. I use mpex, bhphoto, Adorama etc. even some random websites generally have deals on specific stocks. When it’s on sale I stock up big time. As for film holders… unfortunately no. They’re just stupid expensive. For what it’s worth I’ve been using strictly fidelity holders and they’ve held up well.
Спасибо за интересный рассказ. Я очень рад, что увидел этот видеоролик.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
@@MrNegative I've been shooting on 4x5 for 15 years now. Before that, I shot 18x24 24x30 9x12. It never gets boring.
You are so right. It definitely never gets boring. 4x5 is one of my favorite formats
