I liked my X27 so much. I gave it to a neighbor that was new to Interior Alaska . I didnt want them to freeze because they couldnt get their wood split. I think its their most favorite tool. They split 12 cord with it over the past 2 years.
I opened my foot like an over cooked sausage with that exact axe. It’s sharp. It’s remarkable how one momentary lapse of reason while doing something you’ve done thousands of times can put you out in a split second.
I love mine too but dont buy the big 8# one with the polished steel sledge head on one side. Its just a crappy wedge design and it just bounces off of the rounds for the most part. It is a bit useful for smaller round with stubborn knots bit the regular splitting maul can handle those fairly decently.
Just like lightning, never struck the same place twice. Lol. That's what my stepfather always said. My shoulder has been rebuilt so I bought a splitter. Love oak
Oh yeah those natural splits are helpful. I’ve been working on some very large white oak rounds with the same maul. That white oak is a different animal from red oak. Those fiber strands are brutal in the white oak and much harder to get clean splits without several strands holding it up. Definitely wears you out quicker. I have 4 large oaks on the ground that Ive been working on little bit every evening after work.
While it ain't free, it's certainly the cheapest and most eco friendly way to heat the home. If you own the land you cut, all you pay is Fuel transport and sweat. We used to get 2k power bills every damn winter. Fire wood costs us maybe 200$ in chain saw fuel/parts. And its replaced my work out so the time isn't even that bad.
It’s a nice workout Those who are not used to it may say otherwise but I love swinging an axe/maul by hand Ti get the heart rate going Nice work brother
I think that tool is okay, but I use a split maul for this sort of thing. That backdrop of firewood is impressive. To use the blade as a lever the handle must be heavy duty. Looks like good honest work.
I've got one of these Fiskars tools too. They're marketed as an axe but really do a great job as a splitting maul as well. The handle is the toughest I've ever seen on any hand tool like this.
@@haydentaylor8651 I burn all of the same. I am sitting 4 feet away from my wood stove that is full of red elm as we speak. I like hedge/Osage orange also
Making it look easy,. Got a 12" x 14" English oak. Been trying now for the passed day trying to split it with a 8lb maul axe. Never used one, always used a splitting axe until I broke the handle. Any tips on the use of a maul axe?
Like to see you do. Review on the chain locker looks like you gotta a lot of hard work cut out for you splitting by hand all day. We could could all use some firewood cold season is just around the corner
This is the real Sh*t. Did this with green stuff and i emded up tossing 1/5 of the pile to the side. But, 90% of the UA-cam vods I see are folks effortlessly splitting everything soft besides hard wood like oak. This is the real deal. Southern oak in the US can be brital to split if not at least a bit dry. This is hard work.
I've yet to find an axe that will split as good as my X27. It's really an amazing tool. (I've got several hundred dollars tied up in other axes and mauls simply as a challenge to find one).
Oak is far the best wood to burn it last ages on an open fire and provides long and lasting heat .i have 2 open fires and a log burner in one house and it keeps the house warm for over 10 hours .
Itll save your back from that jerky motion if you start with the axe head along your back, making a full swing instead of a half swing, allows you to put energy into the axe slower and doesnt require you to lift the axe straight up
What's red oak split like? We have mostly birch ash and rock Maple for hard woods in my area. Ash splits like a dream, rock Maple, well it's in the name lol 😂
He looks like the guy that saves the arrogant college kids from the Wendigo.
I love this comment 😂😂😅
Interesting comparison 😂 what makes you say that?
Well done! Free heat. Free workout. Win.
You got that right!
Ain’t no such thing as free heat
@@markfroman738 I'll give ya that but at least he ain't paying the local utilities!!

Oh they have not
Man is wearing crocs while splitting wood, a real man.
That's all I was looking at too, please tell me those are protective shoes or something...😵
Steel toe is great until you smash the top of your foot.
Strong like bull, smart like tractor.
With clean overalls cuffed at the bottom so he can catch and save stuff for later.
Why must people seek to find something negative… oh yeah that’s the American mindset
Holy shit
now that's some precision
That cracking sound when youve split a big log ... satisfaction 👍👍.

Wow, I hope you had a full recovery. I now that had to hurt bad.
I had a near miss to my foot once too
My chainsaw bit my shin. It’s no fun being opened up
I see what you did there
“Split” second
My x27 is definitely my favorite splitting axe, and maybe my favorite tool ever.
The balance ratio,to the swing, in the fiskers x27 is perfect for splitting, great tool,🇨🇮
Fiskars* 😉🇫🇮
That Fiskars never fails - nice job!
That sound is fire 🔥
if that's local and available that's a blessing.
I just got done splitting 2 face cords of northern red oak an hour ago. Used the same fiskars axe too! That ace makes quick work of it
He reminds me of John Coffey from the Green Mile. I miss MCD as an actor
I love my Fiskars splitting axe...

I blew 7 tendons off my left humorous head. It was sewn back together. That's why I chop wood with an axe. Use it or loose ot.
Doing work! God bless you brother!
That wood sounds crispy 👌
You're so fortunate. We mostly have pine. Mesquite is our hard wood but its smaller and less available.

The fiskars is better than any maul. Its the perfect balance of weight and shape. Ive used them all.
Cette technique ! Respect.
Thank you buddy.
That's a beautiful house on the most beautiful property.
Thank you very much.
This is a powerful man
Smart man using weather cracks too...😊
gosh that sound was beautiful
Nice supply of wood, good job
That’s some real oak you working with right there.
Burning wood is very satisfying. Nice stack there my friend. Red oak is good stuff 👍
Thanks 👍
Yes it is, we use wood for heat and we burn elm, white ash, hard maple, cherry and oak, sometimes hickory as well, it’s all good

Thank you.
Nice job. I need a Fiskars.
Firewood heats you twice 1st processing it and second when you burn it.
Good aim! Nice video.
Did you split that log before or after you brought Mr. jingles back to life?
Watching videos of guys splitting firewood is a gateway to watching lots of videos of guys splitting firewood.

Red oak is hard to split u got lucky on the rot , get a piece full of knots , them are fun 😊

Pulled my back muscle just watching this
Leave it slightly attached instead of fully splitting it will help keep it together and make it easier when splitting the rest.
Try it dude
GREAT. PUT UR WORK HARDER. USE ONLY AXE FOR TREES. LOVE U BIG BOE :]💚💚
I’m picking up one of those Fiskars tomorrow. I’d be grateful to be able to do half of what this man is doing with it, beast! 💪🏻😎🫡
Sound is so nice
Love this brother
Appreciate it
great work brother !!! ill take my honda though i killed my back splitting by hand
Thanks for sharing 😊
Red oak is great isn't it? Makes you feel like Superman!
Nice split
Did a LOT of that before getting a splitter... Hernia makes it hard to split by hand these days.
It’s a good feeling spitting wood.
Nice accuracy
Now thats a nice piece of oak
Damn, you're a surgeon with that axe. NJ

How did you make that look so effortless 😅🙈 just spent an hour splitting 1 small log in half
You have good aim

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
I wish live oak was this easy to split
Might benefit from using axe head lube or WD-40 so it doesn't get stuck; nice splitting brother

Dang! It's ol dude from GREEN MILE!
try using a big hammer once your axe is stuck in. It will go faster and take less swings.
🤘🍻🤘
Still some "real men" in this world
I always split from the outside in.... never from the middle... especially on large logs.... been doing it since 96
I just happened to be wearing the same overalls while watching this video
LoL
👍
Good vid !
Glad you enjoyed it
The form is a little of but pretty good
Thanks
Splitting in some crocs, my kind of dude 😊
I know accidents can happen but sometimes you just gotta trust your skills.
I remember sweet gum..... can't do that with sweet gum.
Better to use a splitter for gum. When it finally splits, it goes “plick” and jumps apart. Take care.
@@carlcarlamos9055 sweet gum doesnt jump apart even with a splitter, it keep wood stuck together like pieces of rope.
Red oak seems to take forever to season but it burns hot.
Can't beat those friskies or whatever they're called huh? I need to get me one I think
Bro get that Iso-core maul as a companion to your axe. That oak would have rocketed apart with the power you're able to put in a swing.
Try to avoid torquing the axe side to side like that. It a weakness on the fiskars and they caution against it on the warning label.
Now that's how you split fire wood
its not but its a way
If you like wasting time and jusf want to work out. Lol
I’m buying that Fiskars splitting axe tomorrow!
Good job!
Not a hateful Fiskars
No problem for the guy from Green Mile.
That's funny. LoL
Hyvä Suomi 👍🇫🇮
He's man enough to wear crocs while he tears apart red oak. I wear baby blue crocs while I split my fire wood.
