Just wanted to leave this here I’ve had a seiko skx009 for 4 years. Worn it every day for work, I work in construction. I’ve broken concrete up with it, I’ve had timber fall on it. Everything you could ever imagine. And there isn’t one scratch on the Hardlex. I know scientifically it’s not as hard as sapphire, but I just wanted to say that if anyone’s worried that hardlex would be a deal breaker then I can’t speak highly enough of it. However before that I had an skx007, went golfing and the impact of a shot broke the movement. Despite the 7s26 supposedly being pretty much indestructible So there you go, not always what expect
Long Island Watch also just want to say a personal thank you to you mark, my dad bought a Sarb033 off you last year and he absolutely adores it and loved the service you gave him So I’ll always be a big fan of you, your business and your videos because of that!
Glad to hear someone has a different experience with Hardlex. I don't have that kind of luck with mineral glass(AKA Hardlex). My first Seiko 5's crystal developed a deep gouge doing light yard work when the end of a rake scrapped across the crystal on day 3 of owning it; it really pissed me off. I totally agree about the 7s26 being a solid movement. I've had nothing but positive experiences with the 7s26c and the 7s36 movements. They are definitely not indestructible, but reliable.
Marc REALLY knows how to review a watch... succinct and to the point. I love these! One can never have too many Seiko divers, despite their imperfections. P.S. I like “Dark Ocean”.
Blue and Gray are my lucky colors. Love Seiko! Appreciate your background history and explaining their unique functionalities from each other. Great video, Mark!
I've been watching all your videos for a long time now, and this was the first one I actually hesitated to watch. I've owned the SRPC93 since before everybody has or wants one, and I was afraid of liking this coated version better. I already have the blue silicon strap with silver hardware from a JDM SRPA, so I've got that covered:) I like my stainless one better after all.
I want a samurai, but I'm scared of getting one with the crown off centre like the one that you are showing. Or am I mistaken, optical illusion mayhap.
It's very satisfying to watch the long second hand sweeping since it's V175 caliber. But can you just leave the long second hand keep sweeping and screw it down--just a regular watch?
Great video, always enjoy watching them. F.Y.I. they do have the Save the Ocean Chrono in silver, I own one myself. The bezel, crown and push buttons are dark color kinda ion black contrasting with the silver, beautiful!
I just got one of the these in the samurai version. My bezel spins quite a bit easier to turn than my skx... And sounds very tinny. Should I send it in or is this normal?
Love the Save the Ocean specials. I have the solar version in ss with black dial and some red bits, without a doubt one of my favourites. I think this one (strangely), is the one that works the least in this STO livery. Do like the fact you pointed out that these could scratch up easily, at least your honest Marc.
@@ernestdecker789 go check them out. They're a bit more expensive than the old Mako 2 but the Sapphire is worth the price. Oh and that tragic Seiko misalignment. I can live with it on a $70 Vostok, but not on $300+ watches.
I have one of those too and suggested it to a friend on the IRC who wanted a sportlike automatic, excellent quality and a good price. I also linked him LIW.
I want to see some of those "disgraced-Japanese-resignations" over this misalignment mess. With a lot of bowing, profuse apologies, etc. Seriously, I do.
I love that samurai, it's gorgeous, I'm not really keen on the turtle model in general but I do like the strap I think that would look really good on the chrono
Solar Chrono does look sweet, right now can't swing it and have several Auto and quartz Seiko's, really would want one of the three maybe in a month or two. I do love the color's, not a big bracelet person, no matter they give me some irritations, the other straps seem fine to me. Thanks for the review. What I do think is remarkable is how a person can save thousands and have a quality piece.
Love the dials just not a fan of the large diameter and IP coating. Have you ever thought about starting a pre-owned section on your site, Marc? I seem to be more drawn to the older Seikos as they have more charm than their newer offerings, in my opinion.
Does anyone know if the if the SRPD09 has the same dial as the SRPC93? The SRPC93 is the stainless steel version with a bracelet. Not sure if it is an optical illusion, but the SPRD09 looks darker.
Thanks for a great vid! I'm very close to buying the silver solar chrono with steel bracelet, does anyone know if the bracelet has just pins or collar and pins please????? Thanks.
antonc108 I think trash, chemical etc. dumping is a more pressing issue than killing whales. So you can complain about whaling all you like but presumably your countries waste management hurts the ecosystem more than a single nation of whalers ever could.
Marc, I’m a huge fan of that chronograph but I just purchased a Squale 1545-originale from you so I don’t want to purchase another watch for a few months 😛 Best Regards, Peter PS: Stop making me want to buy more watches.

i love my save the ocean turtle. its a stunner, and has the smoothest wind i've ever felt. very excited for these new ones!
Thanks!
Blue and Gray are my lucky colors. Love Seiko! Appreciate your background history and explaining their unique functionalities from each other. Great video, Mark!
Best 2 seconds commercial ever! Can't wait to get that double domed samurai!
Dark Ocean sounds awesome! Thanks for the video Marc!
Thanks!!!
Do you have any suggestion for a steel black bracelet to put on the Samurai ? Is the Turtle's one available ?
Why are there alignment issues and will Seiko ever do anything about it?

@@islandwatch Watches and wallets never really match...
I'm a big fan of these dials.
Me too
i love the detail quality on the Samurai, especially the knurling on the crown,
Hi, will that bracelet from the turtle fit the samurai model in this video?
All 3 are beauties! Now I have these Seikos on my wishlist too! So many already :D
So many, so little time.
New year, new backdrop? I'm missing the window blind. IP bracelet certainly looks different, but will scratches be more obvious than the silver one?
I want a samurai, but I'm scared of getting one with the crown off centre like the one that you are showing. Or am I mistaken, optical illusion mayhap.
optical illusion. I have one and it's centered.
It's the way I'm holding it.
On the samurai and turtle scratches would show the silver steel underneath?
It's very satisfying to watch the long second hand sweeping since it's V175 caliber. But can you just leave the long second hand keep sweeping and screw it down--just a regular watch?
Nice bqckground! Looks better without the window! 👍😉
Glad you approve :)
That first one you go over is beautiful.
Yes, it is.
Are “Save the ocean” models considered to be more rare? And if so would you say you see the price increasing over time?
Special edition, not rare by any means. If your only into these watches as an investment you got another thing coming.
Love those Seikos ! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Phil
Great video, always enjoy watching them. F.Y.I. they do have the Save the Ocean Chrono in silver, I own one myself. The bezel, crown and push buttons are dark color kinda ion black contrasting with the silver, beautiful!
Nice, thank you!
Blue strap is a wonderful shade of blue!
It sure is.
Just pre-order Dark Ocean Samurai... Can't wait to get it.
Save the Ocean dials are even better than the normal dials.

I try to be.
After the new Orient Mako 3, I'm done with Seiko until they use Sapphire crystal for their $500+ divers.
I haven't seen the Mako 3 yet. I didn't know they released them. I agree though, Seiko should use Sapphire. not a big fan of the hardlex.

the mako 3 with white dial is fantastic i really want one
The alignment on that turtle...OMFG. When will they learn? When will they bother?
Agree, truly shocking 👎.

Right.
I think their politicians have a tradition of doing it.
But I think some high-ranking CEOs had done it as well.
Good catch! Too right. This is just not acceptable.
I love that samurai, it's gorgeous, I'm not really keen on the turtle model in general but I do like the strap I think that would look really good on the chrono
Thanks! Strap is a different size, though :(
Three absolute winners thanks Marc 👍😀
Thanks James.
OMG! I love them. I have the original Save The Ocean Turtle and Samurai, and now it looks like I'll have to buy two more.
Yup!

I have. But it's not in my knowledge domain. There's so much there that I do not know.
Perfect review not some BS 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I can't tell, does the chrono version have drilled lugs?
Oh my gosh I love that quartz on a 20mm without those that crazy bezel ring..I may have to get this..I've been wanting a chrono
Awesome, thanks!

Hopefully very soon.
On the Turtle bracelet, pins and collars or screws for removing links?
pins and collars
Still waiting on a Save The Ocean Mini Turtle Marc. Can you make that happen? Puh-leeeze!?
Ha! I have about as much pull as you do
Long Island Watch I doubt that, but I take your point. ☹️
Seiko always a "smart" buy
Mostly true
Fantastic Samurai. No way you'd be able to sell the blue straps, right?
Not yet!
Wasn’t the Seiko SSC675P1 the silver save the ocean
They actually made a silver solar chronograph model. The ssc675.
Thanks for the info
@@islandwatch they also have the solar tuna for the save the ocean series SNE518. But maybe it is just offered on the asian market for now
Hello Mark. Any idea if Seiko will be releasing new variants of the mini turtles for 2019?
Nothing that I've heard, but that doesn't mean anything.
My local macys is selling the samurai for $850. The sales clerk made a weird face when i chuckled.
Wow, that's nuts.
I have the turtle and samurai in silver, and there seems to be a difference on the dial, these dials looks more matte and glossy on mine.
I guess it would have made sense to bring up the older version and compare them.
i cant decide which one to get, they all look great
The SRPD09 looks amazing... so amazing it makes my heart aching because I bought SRPB55 few months earlier 😢
LOL, sell it!
Long Island Watch I'll stick with black gold and buy another model
Thanks for a great vid! I'm very close to buying the silver solar chrono with steel bracelet, does anyone know if the bracelet has just pins or collar and pins please????? Thanks.
i like all of seikos prospex automatic divers, but i wish they could use the 6R15 instead of the nh35 , before the sumo lines 🤓
Maybe one day :)
Nice work as usual Marc 👍
Thanks!
That Samurai is beautiful.
There is a silver version of the solar chrono. SSC675P1, SSC019P1
When will you have them on the site ?
They are.
Issues the Save The Ocean watches, but go whaling.
antonc108 i doubt all Japanese support whaling, i certainly hope not.
Very good point, ironic. Though I'm sure Seiko doesn't go whaling.
antonc108 I think trash, chemical etc. dumping is a more pressing issue than killing whales. So you can complain about whaling all you like but presumably your countries waste management hurts the ecosystem more than a single nation of whalers ever could.
I got one of those black samurais. Its just as good locking as on the vid.
Nice..I've heard about this at a dinner party recently...may I have the model no pls?
Nicely done Marc, great blue! Also what model is your Spinaker please. Thank you. 👍
Thank you! I'm actually not sure yet; it was a pre-release.
I watched this twice and I love em all ,maybe I missed it twice, I don’t think ya gave a price for the turtle 🐢?
Maybe I missed it? $432
Can you purchase just that blue rubber strap separately?
Not yet.
Forced date change between 9 and 3 ?? Mark, please explain yourself
AM is OK!
I prefer the stainless version with ip crown (and buttons on the chrono)
Pls tell us, which one is your favorite?
Is the quartz a J model?
I'm not sure what you mean.
I wouldn't call that Chrono a "New" model. The SSC-017 is the same watch; different color scheme and materials.
Then none of them are new, as they all have existed in different colorways?
Marc,
I’m a huge fan of that chronograph but I just purchased a Squale 1545-originale from you so I don’t want to purchase another watch for a few months 😛

PS: Stop making me want to buy more watches.
No problem, thanks for watching!
I like that Seiko is releasing new Samurai models, but let's hope we get a Mini Samurai one day!
I'm not sure that would happen.
