@Nice Brain It's the difference between _knowing_ that fact and _feeling_ it. We aren't really mentally wired for anonymity in that way.
Having a piece critiqued in front of your peers can be extremely uncomfortable, like you've been stripped naked and everyone is poking and examining your every inch. While the artists in this case do have the separation of the Internet to insulate them somewhat, our ape brains can only conceptualize that intellectually; it still _feels_ like you're being hauled in front of the class to be peeled and scrutinized like a dissected frog.

There were several models where I thought "hey that looks pretty dang good!" and once you started explaining the criticisms I was actually able to pick it out with my own eyes and understand more of what was going on during the painting process. I think it's kind of funny how much your helpful suggestions sound like the advice I heard in the aquarell class I took.
    1) Never use the pur colours you bought. Always mix.
    2) Shadows and highlights are a different colour than your base.
    3) look out for your focus point. What's your composition?
    4) where does the light come from and what does it touch.
I like that minis and pictures are from a working perspective so similar. I think beginner's could learn also a lot from looking at other art. Some big portraits in oil for example. I know, I picked up a lot from going to a museum. Even Bob Ross thought me a thing or two.
Thanks for the video. I think, I will try something with clothe next. You sparked some ideas in my brain. 😊

As an intermediate painter there's a lot of good tips here. Really like where you show what you mean by photoshoping as you explain.
Also, big applause to everyone who sent in their minis to be critiqued, especially the beginner ones!

Its so helpful being shown what the changes you suggest do in real time. Particularly with more extreme gradients, which is something I struggle with myself!

that last marine was stunning. super smooth blending. I agree that the extra highlights make it better but they look incredible aswell without them. super nice painting style imo Tasso

I really liked the feddback on the first miniatures. Because those tips will help a lot of people a ton.
You gave some nice feedback on painting TT-minis in general that I need to keep in mind. I'am mainly focused in larger scale miniatures and busts and therefore still strugle with painting smaller miniatures. Bigger miniatures are imho easier to paint. So kudos to everyone who paints those little bastards.
Woohoo ... that was long. Thanks for the love. I would add some more critque to my miniature (milb0r's Zombie Detective). Besides from the obvious lack of detail within the hat (I just couldn't paint on on it. I wasted hours on textures that I toned down later to a state where they aren't readable anymore). I noticed that the highlight-intensity on the upper lip is kinda turned upsidedown. I wanted the eyes to stand out and by the main-focus. I pre-sketched a way harsher shadow around the eyes, cast by the hat, but lost this harschness throughout the painting process ... not sure if this is a good or bad thing.
    Cheers!

Warhammer Keanu’s “you’re breathtaking!” absolutely cracked me up! Funny stuff, and then a great video on top of that. I’m too scared to submit anything because I can’t edge highlight or paint smooth lines because I have shitty arthritic hands.

I loved this vid! Using photoshop to help show where an artist can improved is a great teaching tool - often these style videos are like "do better" , "contrast contrast", "saturation" however your explanations are of great quality.

I have to agree with Chaw about the helpfulness of photoshopping the changes. Explaining things and showing them are two different things. Submissions (including anywhere minis are judged) makes it very hard to do so with a black background. Not for judging is fine as it can really give atmosphere to the figure. Otherwise dark figures blend into the background and cannot therefore be accurately judged. It makes me wonder what is trying to be hidden by it. In this case I always knock off a point.

For some reason I always thought that Games workshop had honed in on the best way to paint the miniatures they produce but now that I watch this vid, I realise I thought that because I was just over loaded with Games workshop tutorials and info and didn't broaden my horizon. Thanks for such a great video and not shying away from actual criticism!

I think their style is good at showing you what you’re going to get when you buy a miniature - it’s probably the right choice for that particular application.
