Yakama Nation wants nearby state park to recognize ‘dark’ history

  • Washington state’s website for Fort Simcoe State Park highlights the military history of the park, but members of the Yakama Nation say there is a "dark" past.

    All part of this country‘s history it needs to be taught in schools

      growing up next to the res we spent a lot of time learning about the land and the land people who were born here. Unfortunately - not enough schools are doing this.

    You can't teach this in some states now because it might make students uncomfortable.

      No. It's not taught in a lot of places because white parents don't want their kids to learn the truth. This is definitely true in a few school districts in WA.
