I don't wanna be the type to say I was born in the wrong generation, but man, I would've loved to live through the whole grunge explosion in the 90s. Nirvana, STP, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Mudhoney... Alternative rock at its prime.
wish I were born 10-15 years earlier... I was born in 1990 and definitely remember the decade (music especially) it just sucked because I was too young to get out there and see them. It was fun being the one kindergartner with a taste or this music tho lol
I remember watching this on TV when it aired. I was 16. Core was one of the only 90s albums that I bought (at the time I was obsessed with Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac.) But there was something special about STP and that’s why I bought Core. Great album! Scott was so freaking hot…Did he have any idea that teenage girls were swooning at the sight and sound of him?! What a voice❤
It was because he kinda did the Vedder snarl in Plush, and also kinda copped his image; the eyes rolling back and all. They were so much better than Pearl Jam, or many of the 90's bands, but they were labeled poseurs because, truth be told, Scott was kind of a chameleon. He seemed to mimic everything the Seattle guys were doing, sadly, even down to abusing heroin. It was a shame because he had so much talent. He didn't need to emulate anyone. Just like in this video, I remember very well seeing Layne Staley's new short, bleached hair look, goatee, with the sunglasses on during live performances. Next time I saw STP, there's Scott with the same exact look. It made us all kind of cringe, but we looked past it because they were so damn good.
Theres a version of this performance when Dave intros the band and says: "Brace yourselves" hilarious. STP was just so stinking good. They were a big part of that early to mid nineties period that was IMHO the last great era for rock. (Seattle bands ect)
Damn, the memories from listening to STP. I’m 37 now. I Remember when I was 5 pretending to be Scott in the mirror with my moms hair brush and trying to do those smooth foot slides and head bobs 😂😂😂
My first show ever was STP and Cheap Trick in around 94? My dad took me..out me on his shoulders at Starwood. His doobie gave me a contact. Coop thing was he took ME, because I was into 90s music as a young fella then. He just happened to notice us youth had good taste. Haha! The show was great. Out of hundreds after and being a musician myself and from.a.musical family, the ONLY live band of that era that touched these guys tightness I saw was PanterA. Those days are sadly gone. Jeff Gutt sounds "just like Scott" until you actually hear Scott and then you realize that voices are all totally unique and no two are identical. Scott is a legend and can never be replaced but Jeff does are far better job than anyone else I've seen thus far.
This track hits on SO many levels. Growing up during the 90s was a blessing. Watching these acts and bands perform late night talk shows and MTV replaying the hit new albums and songs dropped. It was bangin.
Scott Weiland's physical transformation between the Core and Tiny Music era's has always fascinated me. His natural hair colour in this video appears to be almost Ginger... Yet from the No. 4 era on, it was clearly black... Or at least significantly darker than what it was. 🤔
I am a huge fan of STP I was the lead singer that we played their songs in pubs and bars and gigs for decades but I must say I think those Shades he's wearing are the same ones the doctor made me wear on my way home after laser eye surgery😂
Hey shout out to the Kick Ass CBS Sound Engineers who put this live mix together for Late Night with David Letterman by the way. The drums are so tight and punchy, and the overall sound is Crushing. It sounded like a metal head fan was in charge of the audio because this is one of the Loudest television studio performances I have Ever heard. It's up there with Living Colour on Arsenio Hall. It's *almost* better than the album version (it would have been a tie with harmony vox). The performance on its own was Peak STP, too. That band came to New York City to rock their face off, and they did.
The richness and pure depth of this version is truly awesome. Could've been a festival sound level & I guess the unsuspecting in the audience didnt know how loud it could sound. I always remember Scott doing those moves onstage at Reading Festival 1993. I was off my nuts but they were fcuking incredible that day....

I remember thinking at the time that this must be what it was like for my parent's generation to experience the music explosion of the late 60's
Can't lie... it was pretty badass to live through. The only shitty part is that people kept dying. ;(
True. Plus, being able to experience the rise of computing technology from the get-go is untradeable.
Rock lived a glorious life from the sixties through the nineties. It's all but dead now.
