    Finally, a reviewer thorough enough to include thermal measurements with and without both the rear and bottom optional case fans. GN and Kit didn't and I was really curious. Thanks so much for the fantastic review!

      They didn't for good reason. Cases should be tested in stock configurations.

      @@christopherjames9843 yes they should be tested in stock, which he did. Not sure you understand the comment but that’s ok. It’s also nice to be tested with optional fans to see it’s potential, for prospective buyers who might be curious. More information is better than less information.

    A 10 out of 10 review. Best review of the Torrent Compact on UA-cam. So I think I get it - if you stay with one GPU, CPU air-cooling only, a single 3.5 in HD (or none) i.e., don’t deviate from a simple build if you don’t need more, then perfect. Quiet and superb thermals in a manageable footprint. Excellent.

    Fianlly, someone who reviewed this case the way it is intended to be used, with air cooling and with those two awesome 180mm fans. Thank you for your thorough review. Subrscibed.

    Very informative to see the noise and thermals with the different fan configurations! Helps a lot with my purchase decision.
    Two thing I would like to see would be: 2x180mm but closed bottom intake. Could closing the bottom intake prevent any fresh air leaking through the bottom from all the positive air pressure?
    Also, stress tests with gaming benchmarks - could show more 'real world' temperatures and noise levels (conscious this is an old video and your new methodologies may include this).
    My case should be arriving in a week or two, hopefully I could test this!.

    Really like the look of this case. I built my first pc about a month ago in the meshify 2 using your video, excellent case, don't need to upgrade. (Air cooled stock fans, does well. Also my pet bird would want to climb on the grill on the front so that's a no go haha.)
    Just wanted to comment to say the production value of your videos is superb, clear, clean and massively informative. I also really appreciate the way you structure the videos, seems like you put a lot of effort and thought into them.

    I wish Fractal included 140mm bottom fans with this case. After including the cost of adding bottom intake fans, the case is pretty much the exact same price as the full sized Torrent case which i believe includes three 140mm bottom intake fans.

    The biggest issue for me was the Drive Tray. If you have the impertinence to actually wish to install a 3.5 inch spinning drive there has been no consideration for proper clearance for the SATA cable connectors. I tried both straight and 90 degree types, (you also are forced to attach the cables before screwing the drive into the cage to avoid damage) and neither tray position will allow it to fit period - the tray retaining screw will not align. I can only think I will have to secure the tray at an angle with a cable tie if I want to use the drive at all!

    I got the solid case, the looks don't matter at all. I did it on purpose because the only bad reviews were for cable management in the back side. It doesnt matter if you can't see any of it.

    • @teemuvesala9575
      @teemuvesala9575 Рік тому

      Well its not the looks people were whining, but the fact the rear side panel wouldn't close without bulging out a bit. Now for steel panel this doesn't matter, but for temperate glass it does as its likely going to break over time from that stress of cables pushing against it. So yeah naturally solid case is the practical choice, you don't need to worry about shit like this. And Fractal sells glass side panels separately for the case, but funnily enough not steel panels.

    its a realy nice case, i wish they made the front fan easier to clean off with just using a vacuum directly on the filter, but i would have to remove the front panel detach the filter and vacuum it, the same for the bottom filter. if they make it so i can just pull out the bottom filter and i can just vacuum the front filter without taking off the front panel i would be sold.

    Excellent review as always! The only downside of the Torrent line is the limited water cooling support especially if you are going for AIOs. With newer top-end CPUs generating so much heat like the 12900K, air cooling is starting to become non-viable which is a pity because Fractal is my go-to brand for cases.

  • @Simon-lb2iu
    @Simon-lb2iu 2 роки тому

    To optimise thermals/noise do you think it would be worthwhile connecting the rear fan to the motherboard and the bottom fans to the Asus Strix fan connect II header (assumng this works, I haven't seen much info on it on the internet), and configuring fan curves so that the bottom fans only start when the GPU is under load, and the rear fan only when the CPU is under load? That way you get the best of both worlds (quietest configuration when idle and quietest configuration when under load).

    Good review. I just received my Torrent Compact yesterday for my new build - dedicated for gaming - so I have no need for tons of space or storage; a couple NVMe's will do. Transitioning my heavy Corsair 500D with my legacy 9700k into a NAS and virtual environment, passing on two NF-A14's and a DH-15 along the same GPU on the video for the otherwise new rig. I have everything now except the motherboard and CPU (patiently waiting for the new X3D series, almost here!), but I haven't fully decided on a mATX or ATX form factor. What do you recommend? I'm leaning towards mATX for the space, but I keep bouncing back and forth! Would the ATX form factor make things unnecessarily tricky?
    Thanks for the great video.

      Just curious, what mobo size did you go with? I used ATX for my build last year and the only problem I had was the audio header was a little tight to squeeze through the back and under the mobo. But that's on me for shitty planning and not running the cable through beforehand lol

    • @Shiftito
      @Shiftito Рік тому

      @csi2448 Had a "screw it" moment and went with ATX - Asus B650E-E paired with a 7800x3D. Figured future me would appreciate the extra slots and connectivity, plus I snagged the mobo at a good price. I did end up having a long session setting up both builds - afternoon til 4am or so - but it included a thorough cleaning of all legacy components + extra HDD slot setup and OCD-level cable routing; thin/braided cable extenders simplified things quite a bit. I did wake up to 2 ready-to-go rigs, so that was nice.
      I may end up doing a mATX/ITX build in the future anyway. I've been loving ZFS on my server with Proxmox and envision folding onto ECC at some point. Err so yeah...ATX :D

    Gotta wonder what went in Fractal design team's minds when they only left 20mm of cable management space in the back, and yet Nano has 29mm of it... Could have easily made the case 10mm thicker and this problem wouldn't exist.

    Excellent review. I'm deciding between the compact and the full-size and was wondering about whether I needed a back fan, in which case I would have gone for the full-size to install a 140 (hopefully quieter than a 120). However, from your review it looks like the back fan is not so critical, and I'm not bothered about RGB.
    My PC will be on the floor, with ATX MB, air cooling and a single 2.5 ssd (so not much space required) . Would you suggest I go for the full size Torrent at £50 more, or get the compact?

    This case is a disappointment after a long wait.
    No AIO?? WTH?? If you put the AIO in the front you must lose the filter for the front panel to fit again. If you put it in the bottom the pump will die. Less cable management than its smaller sibling?? One HDD?
    PC Makers need to build a case around components and stop limiting the basics. It was obviously rushed out the door and is a failure in my books.

    • @mdexterc2894
      @mdexterc2894 2 роки тому +13

      You're actually pretty out of touch. Alot of people asked for the smaller size because the airflow was great for air coolers. Also, it's kind of weird being a huge fan of HDDs. You could literally install terabytes of nvme storage on some itx boards and there's at least 4 more ssd mounts at the back of the case

    • @kaspervendler1726
      @kaspervendler1726 2 роки тому +7

      This case is abviously not meant for AIOs there is a lot of other options for that, most AIOs like NZXT, coolermaster, cosair would even if they did fit properly perform WORSE in a noise/performance setting anyway due to Aseteks patent enforcement.
      AIOs is the most overated and misunderstood aspect of PC building in general and the majority gets it completely wrong and buy noisy undersized garbage AIOs not to mention those who mounts them in the bottom, so its nice to see an airfocused build for once, if you want a highend case for AIOs then buy something else.

      @@kaspervendler1726 To be fair. GPU water cooling is like the best option. But for CPU's? No.
      AIO's? They are a bad joke. Putting AIO's at the front or at the bottom pushing the CPU heat back into the case never made sense. A flipped computer and a radiator for the GPU is like the most optimal design. Yet we never see it! GPU fans are like the worst thing! Right after 80mm fans and such in bad case designs.
