    My LO is 8mo and I'm starting to have to up my creativity with fabrics/layering. Wondering if you noticed any difference in the brand of inserts? In my experience the Alva microfiber is awful - it doesn't saturate well (vs rumparooz microfiber, which I've had great success with using at nightime). We follow a good wash and strip routine, but I think something needs to change. Considering getting hemp for overnight use and switching our rumparooz microfiber to daytime use.

    I like hemp for overnight, for us just 1 hemp + 1 bamboo can last over 12 hours. My baby is 11 months old.
    For day time use I prefer just 1 bamboo, my bamboo inserts aren’t slow to absorb and work for 4 hours on their own, and makes for a very slim diaper! Or 100% cotton flats, these are much slimmer and lighter weight then the FST, and 1 flat can last 3 hours or more with my baby.

    I find the standard/textbook about inserts absorbency levels and compression to be off in my real life use. I know the cloth diaper podcast talks about this too. I find cotton and hemp to be opposite of what is usually talked about. I love hemp alone, it absorbs faster for us than cotton but it depends on the brand and specific material. I love hemp fleece and hate hate hate most cotton, it just floods for us. Bamboo absorbs really fast for us just don't like the flopiness.

Would you use MF, FST, MF +FST, FST + HEMP, MF + HEMP? I don't want to make his diaper too bulky. Also, when doing the ALVA baby hack, do you do the hack to shorten the diaper and then stuff it with the insert? Do you fold the insert (like the MF) to make it shorter since you are shortening the diaper? Thanks for your help :)

      Ugh I don't have a link to them unfortunately! I bought them in a facebook group, and they were included with some alva diapers I got. I think the website the Fluffy Penguin sometimes has the plain bamboo ones, I'd check there! Sorry! I use the bamboo, hemp and a flour sack towel all together for night time. And during the day I usually combine a Flour sack towel with a microfiber :)

      I’d look on some fb forums! I really like Alva and mama koala. I have a video on where I bought them. But every baby is different so don’t buy a ton of one type until you see if it fits!

    You mention that using microfiber as the top layer causes rash. So what is a good top layer to pair with bamboo or hemp? Because hemp is already bulky? I also looked at your diy diaper liners using fleece blanket and I was wondering if that can cause diaper rash as well like microfiber? I’m thinking of using fleece liner so I can use coconut oil or diaper rash cream and not have to worry about having absorption problems with cloth diapers.

      The fleece didn’t cause my daughter any irritation at all!

    Thanks for the information! Where do you get your 5 layer bamboo inserts from? I'm looking on amazon and it is a little overwhelming by how many different kinds there are, and some aren't "pure" bamboo but have layers of microfiber in there too. Do I need the "pure" bamboo inserts or is a blend good too?

    It's hard to tell when people review inserts or anything to do with cloth diapering if their methods are right. Not that I'm questioning you, just reviews you see online. It's hard to make decisions until you try them yourself. For one, you will have different preferences and needs for your life and baby. Secondly, I don't know how some diaper. I know people stuff a million inserts into their diaper trying to make them last for hours and hours. That's not good. You always need to change them as soon as you can when you see they are wet. Also, you need to spend time making sure the fit is perfectly around their legs and bum, wash appropriately, and use them as directed. Any short cuts you take in diapering will give you issues.

    • @Misha-zx1nn
      @Misha-zx1nn 5 років тому +1

      If you're layering inserts, you'll want something fast absorbing like cotton on top (closest to baby, where the pee will hit first) and then hemp or bamboo on the bottom (furthest from baby). You could use microfiber on top as well but it can't touch baby's skin so youd only wanna do that in a pocket diaper so there's a liner in between the microfiber and baby's skin.
