Gojira are a French heavy metal band from Bayonne. Originally formed as Godzilla in 1996, they changed their name to Gojira in 2001. The band's lineup, consisting of brothers Joe Duplantier (lead vocals, guitars) and Mario Duplantier (drums, backing vocals), guitarist Christian Andreu, and bassist Jean-Michel Labadie, has been the same since the band's name change.
Gojira's music combines elements of death metal, groove metal, thrash metal, and progressive metal.

The drummer and the singer/guitarists are Brothers. This song is about their mother. They got called home while on tour because their mom was dying and they wrote this song. They are a unbelievable band with tons of talent. Great reaction! Please do more Gojira
Gojira is so amazing, and so great live. Most amazing band I've ever heard.
My first time hearing them and of them. I liked it. I love the passion in his voice, plus the hard to melodic transitions. They are inventive and creative in their melodies and imagery. Nice.

This album was recorded by Joe and Mario Duplantier (guit. and drums) and is an memorial to their mother's recent death... very different album more melodic, but emotional as hell.....Listen to any track from their past albums.. they are a band at the forefront currently...."Lowlands" of this same album is great...Opeth is also recommended....the album "Watershed"....
Lowlands is my favorite song from that album because it spends so long building and building tension, and when it pays off... whew.

if you continue on with Gojira, you may go off the edge. Warm up a little more from them without getting too heavy early - two tracks I recommended regarding that are L'enfant Sauvage and Silvera.

Gojira is one of my all-time favorite bands. For their next songs, I'd highly suggest Flying Whales, and also The Heaviest Matter In The Universe. Peace!
Flying Whales is great, but I wouldn't recommend it for someone brand new to Gojira.

@@DoubleKlutchRacing oh man.. I found them by luck when Napster was still around. They did an acoustic set on AOL or something like that and I was blown away. Seen them a few times and fortunately got to meet and talk with them for an hour after a show in Chicago. Good times

No matter what the artists original intention was with the lyrics, I love that certain bands are open to personal interpretation. I leaned on this track for similar reasons when I first heard it. Recent breakup, arguments with my Ex. It's what it means to you. I love your reaction to it. And that head bop...I do that every time I hear Gojira! It's the drums! Joe is legend.
P.S. Gojira is the original Japanese pronunciation of what we Americans know as Godzilla.

Nice! Stoked you guys are getting into heavier stuff and enjoying it (so far...Gojira can be more “extreme” than this, but they balance it more than others)! And with this and Jinjer, y’all have gone international! With that in mind, got some recommendations for ya, though with a caveat-you guys picked up the lyrics great with Gojira, but my humble requests may be slightly more challenging as a couple are in foreign languages. If y’all do chose any of these, I highly recommend the official music videos but would have the lyrics on standby, just in case.
In no order-
Alien Weaponry “Raupatu”-3 teenagers (drummer & guitarist are brothers) from New Zealand singing in their native Maori.
Sepultura “Ratamahatta” or “Refuse/Resist”-from Brazil, and again drummer & guitarist/singer are brothers. First song is in Portuguese, with lots of traditional percussion, second is a straight banger in English.
Thy Art Is Murder “Holy War”-from Australia and just brutal. Particularly well written lyrics though the video is kinda heavy-handed, but worth the watch.

Don't worry about if you interpret the song right. Its your perspective. Granted its fun to see what the writers intended but that's his perspective. Another great song from this album is Silvera. If you want to dive in metal royalty try Iron Maiden - Wasted Years or If you want something fun try King Diamond - Halloween (live)...
the singer (joe) and his brother mario ( the drummer ) were actually facing the death of their mother when they wrote that song ; so it's all about anger , pain and frustration losing someone you love.this french progressive death metal band is very much involved in environmental activism and support associations like "sea shepperd" openly - lots of their lyrics are about man destroying the planet and such - please do more gojira ( the japanese name for godzilla ) songs ; here's a few of their most known : flying whales - the art of dying - silvera - l'enfant sauvage - explosia - the gift of guilt ....

One more thing! They have MUCH heavier songs, but I highly recommend “Low Lands” by Gojira...an absolutely beautiful song, so much emotion. This whole album was written around their mother’s death, and this song is the most emotional on the album. Have a good day. :)

Gojira are a French, vegan, environmentalist metal band... brothers Joe and Mario are very close, and Christian and Jean-Michel have all been in the group since they were in their teens. Their mother was very supportive of their Group, and found a drum teacher for Mario when he was 11. The song is from the album "Magma"... ten days into recording, their mother died unexpectedly. She had been receiving cancer treatment, but had a heart attack. The song was written by Joe about her being gone... the video is a bit strange, but if you see it as a woman invaded by an illness, and shutting out her children, it makes sense. Joe and Mario's sister Gabrielle did the video and photography... "leave the moment alone" is Joe telling himself to stop thinking about her last moments, because he was not there for her.
in my humble opinion Gojira has a unique sound and very worked note that come from the harcore big ug!!
