  • The Cephalotus are looking better. I would even go as far as saying they are recovering. However, some dastardly mould has colonised some of the plants. This has called for some drastic action!

    Hi Oliver, I've had a few cases of powdery mildew on my Cephs in the past, here in New Zealand we sell this product brought out by Yates called Fungus Fighter, I have found that this product has worked wonders by eliminating my mildew problem, cheers

    Hi Oliver, great vid. I've got 2 Cephs which I grew from seed in 2011 and for the past 2 years It's been a constant battle against powdery mildew. Tried the milk treatment and Bayer fungus spray and am now using neem oil. Had similar results with all the treatments, they seem to clear it up, but then it comes back again. Neem seems the best one so far, mixed up a spray and gave the plants a good soaking, trying to get under the leaves as well and fighting any recurring trouble spots by applying neat neem oil with a small brush. Last year I thought I'd lost them when I had to literally prune them back to stumps, but they came back, unfortunately so did the mildew. I hear Systhane is supposed to be good, but not sure if it's still available. Anyway best of luck with the cephs.

    Smart guy not spraying it on all of the plants in case it ends up being toxic. Fungicides are always a crap shoot, I used one on some orchids that was supposed to be safe for them but it killed every root it came in contact with. Powdery mildew is a real pain, the number of spores it produces makes it notoriously difficult to eliminate, fingers crossed this works.

    Maybe try disinfecting with uv light? I have something specifically for that purpose but idk if it'll harm the plant or not

    This is mildew, I also had that with my Cephalotus. I've done a few drops of fresh milk on 500ml and spraying the plants with it worked great.

      Milk? Really! How did you stumble upon this revelation?

      How fresh does it have to be Andreas? Do I have to go out and milk a Cow? Or will supermarket stuff work just as well?

    I had this also but the repellant did not work. Only after being outside all year they now finally are all cured and pitchers are returning

    Hello Oliver, it's May 2022 and my cephalotus seems to have stopped growing and there are no pitchers through which I can feed it. Suggestions, please?

    Better if you treat all the Cephalotus,no? If you leave 1 pot with fungus the sphores can contaminate other pots.

      I have moved the other non treated fungus up wind of teenagers and isolated them. A good point though 👍

    Hi Oliver, how did you make your benjamina tree into that bonsai looking pot? Can you do a care video for it, please?

    • @OliversGreenhouse
      @OliversGreenhouse  5 років тому

      We have had that tree for nearly 13yrs. Any tree will bonsai if you restrict the extent of its roots. Every couple of years I just place a commercial osmocote pellet nugget in the soil.

    Doesn't neem act as a fungal suppressant?? Or am I making that up?? 🤔🤔

    • @OliversGreenhouse
      @OliversGreenhouse  5 років тому +1

      It does and I will be using after I have knocked the fungus back a bit more. I expect it works by impeding the production of spores rather than killing the fungus. We will have to see. It is only attacking the Cephalotus and Orchidoides Utricularia at the moment.

      My cephs were looking the same with mildew on the developing pitchers. I have been applying fungus fighter and although the mildew has gone they still look like crap so they're on borrowed time.....

      I'm gonna coin a term (Cephacide). It's when, no matter what you do, they just die anyway.

    • @OliversGreenhouse

      On a serious note. Re-potting seems to have helped a lot.
