This video shows a timelapse video on how to model a stylized dagger. Autodesk maya was used to model, Zbrush to sculpt, and Substance Painter for texturing. It took a little less than 30 minutes to make.

I'm having problems with retopology it takes me literally days to retopo something. Could you give some tips or do a tutorial on how to speed retopo? Thanks a lot btw, love your models!
You should do a playlist with only Game Assets Tutorials, i would be great! Love your models
Проклятый меч, который при использовании наносит урон владельцу, так как шипы на рукояти - это редкостный мазохизм :D
Спасибо за видео.
haha
Amazing, continue! We apreciate
I didn't know you can use the clay buildup for cloth... Mind blown...
Hello there. I found your channel and I Love your material!! Can you show how you do the uvs as well??
I appreciate your content. Keep it up the good work! Cheers
i'm in college and new seen maya. actually i not liked. but it's before your videos. You are awesome modeling and textures.
Thank you!
Good modeling
Nice video, it is always a treat to see your modeling and texturing process. Been following you for a couple weeks now and everything is always so clean and well done! I was wondering if you had some sort of portfolio where you post your work online? (Artstation, Sketchfab, etc)
I don't for the channel, but now that you mention it I probably should lol.
Plz make some tutorials of Maya Topology and Retopology
Beautiful. I kept thinking of Zelda as I watched you model this. I take it you worked or are working at a game studio due to your style of modeling? Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, yes I work at a game studio; not ready to disclose where though, cheers!
Oh no I wouldn't want you to disclose your job online, never. I was wondering due to your modeling style. Thanks for responding.
I love watching you work dude. I really like your stylized workflow. I've tried to mirror it a little myself. Do you ever use a more photorealistic style?
I enjoy stylized things more so I am have been focusing on that.
Makes me feel nostalgic for some reason
Hello I'm new on the 3D modeling world currently I'm using blender but I have been watching your videos for a while and I love your style also love maya but I would be niche if you show how you do your UVs for this kind of modeling also if you could do a guide of how to use maya would be great!
Sometimes I show Uvs and sometimes not depending on how long the video is. I am going to start posting most of these videos unedited on my Patreon page( not tutorials, but real time speed).
Hola desde Ecuador.Tus vídeos me inspiran .
Gracias!
Very cool :D The details you did in ZBrush, are those only possible like that or can those details be done with height maps in Substance Painter?
That's an interesting question! Maybe some of it can be done with height maps, but you would need somehow paint normals too. But let's see what 3dEx can say.
@@CouchFerretmakesGames Well I taught you can create all height maps with Substance painter, Normals, displacement and all that...
@@iggorr25 I'm not sure.
You can add details like scratches, carvings, panels, etc in Painter, but my opinion is that sometimes it just doesn't look as good as if it was baked from a high poly, though there are many cases where adding details in Painter is easier, for example for scifi type things.
@@3dextrude THX for the reply :D
Hi, great tutorials like always ! I'm curious to know where did you get your custom zbrush brushes? Or did you make them?
Look on google for the orb brush zbrush pack, I guy who works on heroes of the storm made them and you can pay for them or get them free.
it's so lovely
Awesome !!!
This is so good. How can i download that ?
Do you have a video, or have plans on making a video that shows basic workflow? I noticed it seems all the 'Retopology' (I am terrible with terms for 3D Design, still new) seems to be done in your Substance painter? Most videos I've seen they do Low Poly > Sculpt > Back into Blender/Maya/3dsMax and adjust for the retopology. Curious even if you made a simple cube and then stylized it in zbursh and back into Substance how it all works together. Thanks for any advice! Just got my Educational edition of Substance to try out soon!
I have a video in my channel where I cover my usual process, its the one with the turret; it was posted not too long ago.
Do you give supporting loops before importing the model into zbrush?
most of the time I do, unless is a geometric shape in which case I usually just use dynamesh. You can also add supporting geo in Zbrush using the zmodeler brush
thank you very much. The video is great. but I have a question. why not video uv mapping.?
I didn't show that part for this video, but I do in many others.
Is that only possible with Maya or are the other programs really necessary?
You need something to texture models so highly recommend Substance Painter for that.
how would you export this to back maya or 3dmax? I want to model a few of my assets in your style for a project because I think it looks awesome
You just have to export the textures and import them into Maya or Max
@@3dextrude Thanks!
So why do you work on Maya first then go to Zbrush?
Zbrush is good to add sculpted details
i'd like to see how you did your UV =)
I will try to show that in future videos.
Is that Falsebound Kingdom Music
It is!
what it´s the last program that you use for painting?
Substance Painter
7:56 Did you forget to make UVs here? :p
Nepu-Tech USA I didn't show that part, sorry.
I'd love to see the game character who carries this sword. I'm picturing something similar to those little angry coconut people, the Kakamora, from 'Moana'.
Haha that's probably what the character would look like.
how do you split part of objects in zbrush? i think you import your maya file right? its not possible for blender :(
You can import an obj or fbx file into Zbrush. Not the maya file. If you have your model in seperate pieces when you export as fbx they will be separate in zbrush too if you import from the zplugin menu.
@@3dextrude wow thank you so much, so is it same in Substance painter?
To split in Substance Painter you will need to assign different materials to the different parts or bake an ID map.
what software was used to color the dagger?
Substance Painter
@@3dextrude thanks man but isn't it Zbrush? and if not what would you recommand z brush or substance painter?
Zbrush for sculpting, Painter for textures/colors
@@3dextrude thanks man :D
