Hickman stories got me into buying comics. Hearing about Fan4, Future Foundation and Secret Wars made me realize comics weren't just "hero pounds bad guy" like the often were when I was growing up.
Props for including Secret Warriors, a series that doesn’t get enough love, but it’s a crime there’s no mention of Pax Romana! IMO that’s his best work. If you like his Marvel work, you should read his S.H.I.E.L.D. series. It’s great.
Brilliant Mike!! OMG, finally a Hickman video. My Hickman reading was his Infinity TPBs, East of West TPBs and House/Powers of X. And I frikkin loved them. I REALLY NEED the Avengers and Fantastic Four omnibuses.!! Can you use your considerable influential powers to get those omnibuses reprinted?>!! Please? 😁
Secret Warriors, SHIELD(sooooooooooo good), FF(literally should be the script for the reboot of the movies), and Avengers Run are some of if not my favorite comics. East of West is just….perfect. Pax Romana was great. Even Red Wing. Jonathan Hickman is my favorite writer of all time. When Marvel had him and Rick Remender writing all the big guns…what a time to be alive.
@@SaulmanPhishbass For me 1. FF 2. Secret Warriors 3. HoXPoX 4. Secret Wars/Avengers 5. East of West Having said all that not read Pax, Black Monday Murders nor Decorum. His work at Marvel eclipses pretty much everything else I've read by anyone at that company... I still believe had he been allowed to finish his work on X-men that would have been his number 1. He churned out so many great ideas that it even made Gerry Duggan seem a competent writer when playing in Hickman's sandbox...
East of west is a downright feckin masterpiece..and as you said the Art is fantastic..I urge any comic fan to just get it if you can..all 3 hardcovers are now on Amazon.
I’d agree that Hickman’s run of F4 is incredible. It’s my second favorite run of the team and if Marvel is smart they will utilize his run as an inspiration for the movies.
IMO, Hickman has yet to top his own work on Fantastic Four. His Fantastic Four run is sooooo legendary to me. So emotional, so imaginative, so well-written. Love it.
@@dddaaa6965 Yeah it's a great marvel story! If you're unsure if you will like it you could subscribe to marvel unlimited for a month for $10 and read it on there you could also check out any other marvel runs that interest you on there.
Hey Mike! I like the "western"-ish aspects "East of West" seems to have! I LUV westerns(comics, movies, tv series, u name it!)! Will have to look into that some more! Thanx for the fun video, bro! Hope u guys & ur families are all safe & feeling healthy & happy!😊👍🏻👍🏻❤
My favorite Hickman stories are those left unfinished. Black Monday Murders and The Dying and the Dead are both worth reading even though they'll never be completed. Great lost works.
I've read all his non Marvel stuff. Love it. I'll give those Marvel books a shot only if they reprint the Omni's (no way I'm paying a penny more than cover price for any book, specially when I can get them at a discount when they come out /get reprinted). Started buying his X-Men but can't afford to buy all those books and his issues alone weren't a satisfying read. All the big stuff was happening in the other titles. I would have stuck with it if he was writing a focused central storyline.
Fantastic Four Hickman is reprinted in Complete Collection trade format last 2018-2019. Basically, it’s gonna be 4 Volumes for the whole run. Vol. 3 is coming in May 2021.
Secret Warriors is the only Marvel work by Hickman I've read and I found it very uninteresting. I'm not a diehard Big Two fan, but that run just felt so standard.
@@DzustComics I've read and loved East of West and Nightly News, just haven't delved into his Marvel work much. Black Monday Murders is fantastic as well!
@@peterlinfield his Avengers /New Avengers leading up to Secret Wars 2015 is an absolute epic. Some characters are not characterized all that well, like Cap or Hulk, but others like Dr Doom, Black Panther are done so damn fantastically that the run is among their greatest stories! People reading X-men, are you picking up the dawn of X trades or just the solo x-men trades? Wondering what I should do if I wanted to read this Hickman age of X-men
ClayKavalier Since I’ve been following it (Dawn of X) since Day 1, I’m going with series. The problem with doing that is that you’re not always seeing the big picture.
I personally have just stuck with the main X-Men title (crossover events are the exception), and anything else Hickman happens to write (Giant Size issues). I'm likely missing out on some character details but its been an incredibly pleasant experience thus far with just the one title!
Secret Warriors is the best of the best - but Marvel made him rush the end and his four year plot got compressed into two years. Still, it was awesome because great characters old and new can get killed off brutally. That kind of drama is sorely lacking in the "property" books where the characters have movies- you KNOW they can't be killed off- not for more than a few months at most, anyway.
Can someone tell me... If I read Hickman's two Fantastic 4 omnibus and then his 2 Avengers omnibus that will take me to the Secret Wars omnibus right? Am I missing anything essential to his overall saga?

0:46 why does this happens some what allot, the illustration cover looking really good, but the illustration of the comic is not really that good???????????????????????????????????????????
Different artists. Cover artwork is usually always better than interior work. Partly due to having a bigger piece to work on and not having to draw small panels, etc…but it’s usually due to the 2 different artists having very different styles.
Pax romana was my first introduction to Jonathan Hickman. I've noticed not enough people talk about that particular one it does have a fan base but I don't see a lot of people really gush about that particular work he did because that one's truly is amazing
Marvel screwed up giving creative control of X-Men to the talentless writers in the X office. Hickman's run will forever be seen as a disappointment now for X-Men when it could have been the greatest.
