Watched this a year or two ago and never commented but I really shoulve said thanks back then. Because of this vid, the group I play with has switched to playing with no player indicators on map and it's been awesome! Thanks for this!
I don't really play Arma any more, but I've been upping my map reading and land navigation skills IRL recently. This is a great little explanation, I might even download Arma and Ace again so I can practice at home!
This might be the cleanest, most comprehensible to the point video about land navigation basics I have seen so far and I could not have explained or demonstrated it any better. Not sure how I got here and why I watched this since it's old news to me but spot on dude.
as a former 11 years long "carrier" of boyscouts (not to flex but i won "tuscany" (italy) regional tournament about "navigators", at my times, long time ago XP) i know how to navigate ^^ but im new to this game (that i wanted for long time, so much time wasted on games like CoD) so i need you "pros" teach me some things ^^ great video o7
Great video and explanation, but there was no need to draw a second line, your location became immediately clear. When you have drawn the first line, you can orient yourself on the high point of the ridge on the right
The point of triangulation (in the video's case, its Bi-angulation and not triangulation, since he used only 2 reference vectors) is to try get the most accurate position in the map, usually for marking artillery spot, or small objects within the grid. But if all you need is a quick general location of where you are, usually biangulation and terrain estimation should be fine
The skills translate well. You have to deal with magnetic declination and maps that aren't as convenient to read, but ultimately it's all the same. Check out this video by an awesome creator. ua-cam.com/video/ht1zeh0E77Y/v-deo.html
great video, I'm just curious, does GM declination also applies in arma 3? Example if you shoot an azimuth from your compass (magnetic north) and convert them to grid north?
i watched your video, very nice. I have ace3 and i go to the map and press clt window key ,but no map tool. could you tell me what I'm doing wrong. or even better do a video on how get the map tool. thanks
How do I build a land navigation course? I want to set up about 15 waypoints were a candidate finds a sign with a code on it (A1, B2, etc) and proceeds to the next waypoint until the candidate finds his four or five points and completes the training? My zeus skills are minimal, my scripting skills are nonexistent. Need help.
Not easily if you don't use a MicroDagr. Since 10 digit grids are 1 meter square, its next to impossible to accurately find and mark those on the paper map. But with the MicroDagr hooked up to the Vector 21, you can find the 10 grid and elevation of visible target pretty conveniently.
My map tool is not showing. I m pressing the self interact while reading the map (Ctrl + Win) The self interact button appears but it doesnt display options when hovering. I Unsubscribe and subscribe again to ace, restarted, nothing. Any ideas?
Make sure that you have the vanilla arma map in your map slot, if that doesn't work insure that you have your key binds correct and that a map tool is in your inventory.
No a radian is a unit of angle that's equal to about 57 degrees; 3.14 radians equals 180 degrees and 2*Pi radians is a whole circle, 360 degrees. Each of the lines on the outer dial are in milliradians, 6400 milradians to 360 degrees. You're not wrong because its like comparing Meters to Millimeters, but no one says aim the gun at 0.093 Radians.

Right on, dude. The immersion is real.

Agree, spot on, real life and gaming
thank god, now i wont get lost so much anymore
Great explanation! I m looking forward to more like air nav, proper comms, weapons and ammo. keep it up!

Really enjoyed this. Very clear explanation. Thanks so much

Good point. Might be useful if you only have 1 reference point to go off of. ;D

Continue making these videos Tickle
yes father
Very useful but simple tutorial
This is soo cool. Is this how you navigate in real life as well?

@@SirTickleTots appreciate it! I want more contents like this!!
18 months in Arma, ACE3 enjoyer and I never figured out the Map Tools functions yet. Meh. 8-P

Bro probably passed Delta land navigation course irl
😂 I’m flattered
Any way to find 10 digit grid coords?

@@rayperson1262 I had to equip it, yes. it works now. Thanks Ray. I had to place the ACE_crater_Miscellaneous and found it by luck.
tho they are radians not milliradians

Wtf? There's a map tool?
Yes, its a part of the ACE3 mod.
