Thank you so much for sharing this important video. I read Xue Dian 1932 book, which I bought in Taiwan. As a Li Cunyi Branch practicioner, I was also very intrested in the story of Xue Dian and his involvement with Yiguandao. My teacher's teacher was Mr.- Zhang Junfeng 張俊峰 . He was also a member of Yiguandao in Tianjin. In 1948, after closing his fruit wholesale business, "Han Gong Qiu", he moved to Taiwan due to the turbulence in China.

Much gratitude for the video and sharing about XiangXing Shu. Responding to the “dragon body” method you demonstrated. Couple months after practicing XingYi 2 years ago, I realized how your movements were different compared to other learning materials I had. They had more “edge” and certain kind of explosiveness to it. I then tried to emulate how your body extends during the XueDian Style San Ti and Pi Quan demo from one of your older videos(it was an interview showing differences between Li CunYi, Zhang ZhaoDong, and Xue Dian with Pi/San Ti examples), and the results were amazing. Slightly turning around the hip provides the additional range of motion that I never expected. It promotes flexibility to my core and causes the movements to be more “snapping” and ”catapult” like.
Aside from that, it feels appropriate to understand who the founder of the martial arts you practice and their history, especially one with such exceptional mind that truly deserves wider recognition. It is very kind of you to share the personal accounts you have on Master Xue’s life, as they are very scarce, and the existing ones mentioned only briefly or different from yours. Thank you again.

To understand how some masters in the history could reach their level, we have to research their path... I think I will make a video to talk about this in the future.

Since you introduced him in class, Xue Dian as always fascinated me, his development in the style as much as his life. His approach to body mechanics seem to me more "natural" and more combat oriented than any other style of Chinese martial art. His life seems as intense as it is short. It seems like the true meaning of the saying "a light that shines twice as bright, burns twice as fast". Thank you for teaching us about him!

    • @HaiYangChannel

Yes, we did practice his style a long time ago. I think we have to know that even though many people in the martial art community do not appreciate the modern Wushu practice, but subconsciously, many people 's practice actually are copying or following the Wushu practice... this is why I think it is useful to introduce Xue Dian's practice...

We have here yet one more Wonderful Clip by Master Hai Yang. Thank You again Master Yang for all these Wonderful Clips. I have to admit however, than Xing Yi Quan is the style I'm least familiar in comparison to Bagua and Tai Chi. And, in fact, my interest recently rekindled in these Internal Chinese Arts after I had not practiced Martial Arts for over 20 years.
Also, I'd like to point out, after having done some research, that before Master Xue Dian and his Xiang Xing Shu, One Major branch of Xing Yi Quan had already put emphasis on Softness( Hardness hidden in Softness) as opposed to the Hardness( Softness hidden in Hardness) found in the more well known branch of Xingi Yi, the Hebei style of Xing Yi Quan.
The "Shanxi" Province Xing Yi Quan is softer than other Xing Yi styles and, fascinatingly, uses an open Palm more often than the other Xing Yi styles--Just like Master Xue Dian's --Xiang Xing Shu. If I'm not mistaken, one of Master Di Guo Yong's--Di Guo Yong is a Famous teacher of Bagua and Xing Yi Quan in China and a founding member of the Beijing Xingyiquan Association--Teachers in Xing Yi, in addition to his teachers in the Hebei style, was from the "Shanxi style" and this( softness) comes thru in his Xing Yi Quan.
Di Gouyoung Demonstrates 5 Elements Fist: ua-cam.com/video/-3I0EB7Usfo/v-deo.html
In addition, some styles of Bagua teach a 64 hands( this is not to be confused with the 64 "Palms" in the Cheng style Bagua) Linear routine attributed to Liu Dekuan who studied with Dong Haichuan. This Bagua routine while similar to Xing Yi, is both softer and uses more open palms then the other Style.
Master Zhang Quan Liang, studied under the famous Li Ziming, and is a 3rd Generation Master starting with Liang Zhenpu. While I'm not the biggest expert, it seems to me that his Linear Bagua( hardness hidden in Softness) is exceptionally good:
Master Zhang Quan Liang demonstrates 64 hands: ua-cam.com/video/F3TExkcK4jM/v-deo.html
Next, Master Liu Xiao Ling is originally from Shanghai, but makes his home now and teaches in Tekoma Park Maryland. Here Master Xiaoling Demonstrates his Linear Bagua--if I'm correct the Kneading(like Kneading Dough) found in this Form is a technique unique to Baguazhang.
Next, here we have a good Demonstration of Shanxi Province Xing Yi Quan by several Masters of this Style, to me it looks like the first Master in the Clip uses an open Palm almost exclusively:
Shanxi Province Xing Yi Quan: ua-cam.com/video/c9deW2aZlww/v-deo.html
Last but not least: Master Li Gui Chang(1913-1999) was a popular teacher of the Shanxi Style of Xing Yi Quan:

Thank you for your comment. To clarify something before I go further.
1, I said Xue Dian emphasized the hips and chest opening and closing movement, I did not say that Xue Dian focuses on softness or hardness and related topic. That is not my words.
      2. Di Guoyong is not a Shanxi style practitioner at all. I know him in person. He practices Hebei style.
3, Sure, many Bagua have 64 hands. But I emphasized the 64 palms.
4, I know Liu Xiaoling in person, if you have any questions about his practice, I can ask him for you.
5, You post a lot of links of different Xingyi, I would like to know what do you want to express?
I like your writing very much. But I have to point out some information may require further investigation.
      Again, thank you.

      @@HaiYangChannel
Good Morning Master Yang, I'm writing you this from NY's Catskill Mountains where I'm spending the July and August Summer months.
I would like to clarify what I was trying to express in my earlier comments above: In one of your videos that introduce the practice of Baguazhang, you point out that Bagua, as it is practiced today, with the emphasis by many bagua styles on walking the Circle is a very recent creation---in other Words, if we do, indeed, take Dong Haichuan as the first generation Bagua Master, or that Dong Haichuan Created, or at least Organized this earlier Material into a uniquely recognized, organized system, than Baguazhang is less than a 150 years old.
In this same video, intro to Baguazhang, you point out that one of the major "innovations" of this new Martial Art, is the "use of the Palm," whereas other older Martial Arts like Xing Yi Chuan, in the past, used mostly the Fist.
Next, without elaborating to much, it is my personal opinion that the Fists used in Xing Yi, and the Palms used in Baguazhang are both "Symbols" of the different types of power emphasized in each respective Style. As you pointed out before( the clip on Zhang Zhaodong), in general, Xingi uses hard power( or soft hidden in hard) from the very beginning, whereas Bagua uses soft power( or hard hidden in soft) from the very beginning
(however of course I understand that sometimes a fist can be soft and a palm can be hard, but the "symbolism" I point out--Palm Soft, Fist hard above still stands).
Next, after looking at the clip again, you don't speak anywhere of Hard vs Soft in the Xue Dian Clip. However, you state clearly at 21:02 that one of the features of Xu Dian's 'Xiang Xing Shu' is the empahsis on the "open Palm."
In other words, even though you didn't say explicitly in the Clip that Xu Dian's system is a "Soft system( or Hard hidden in soft), but by pointing out that Xu Dian's system makes use of the "Palm" much more than older Xing Yi styles, you 'implicitly' imply( even if this was not really your intention) that Xu Dian's system is Softer than traditional Xing Yi, or at least when it comes to some of the training methods used in this newer system.
In fact, at the end of the Clip you Demonstrate the Dragon stance, and you Point out that unlike Xingi Yi which uses the more traditional Static Stance training, Xiang Xing Shu uses( in your own words) a more "Dynamic, Slow Motion Movement( at about 23:00). In other words, if you accept my assertion that the "Palm" is "Symbolic" of a softer approach than the Harder "Fists" than at the very least some of the "Training methods" used in Xu Dian's system are softer and slower than some of the training Methods used in the older Xing Yi System.
I included those Clips on the Shanxi Xing Yi, to make the point that one major branch of traditional Xing Yi, which came much before Xiang Xu Shu, is most similar to Xu Dian's system as it seems to emphasize a more "Palm Like," or "softer" approach to Xing Yi.
That is what I was trying to say when I posted the Clips with Master Li GuiChang who was, I read recently, a famous Master of the "Relatively" softer Shanxi Province Xing Yi style.
Master Liu Guichang Pushes hands with his student( someone commented on bottom of this clip that it looks like the Wu Style Push hands more than Xing Yi, but I haven't found any evidence that Liu Guichang practiced any Tai Chi?):
      ua-cam.com/video/fqip0rw5q3A/v-deo.html
My Original clip with Master Liu Gichang:
      ua-cam.com/video/ZE4snO6gOwY/v-deo.html
Last but not least, to my untrained eye, Master Liu Xiaoling's Bagua seems to be a synthesis of Jiang Rong Qiao's Baguazhang( Jiang style) and our own Cheng style Bagua System: I'd be curious to know what Master Hai Yang opinion is about this?? Here is Liu Xiaoling in Action( interestingly he holds his elbows really high when doing holding Moon to Bosom Ding Shi Posture):

wow, it seems that you really spent a bit time on my channel. I like it since I guess you like my videos here, or you would spend so much time and energy to analyze my videos. I appreciate your efforts.
However, the key point here that your conclusion is based on your assumption. For example, you believe that since palm is softer than fist, and there are more movements in Xue Dian's xiang Xing Shu with a palm posture, then, you put your words to my mouth by saying that my video implies that Xue Dian's practice is "softer"... in terms of logic, it is a totally wrong in practice. Please do not make any assumption by talking about different videos at the same time. Let's compare apple to apple:)
Also, it seems that you prefer to write your statements without answering my previous questions including your incorrect information... if it is your style of commutation, then I would have any problem with it since it is your style, but it is very unique.
Regarding Liu Xiaoling's practice, I watched the video and I like it. I will ask him about his elbow position question soon.
By the way, how many years have you practiced martial art? It seems that you have invested a lot of energy and efforts into it. Thanks.

Thank You for sharing. Very very clear. I am so interested to learn. I have a question - it seems the area around Tianjin, Hebei, Baoding, Shanxi are very heavy with Shuaijiao practice, especially for military. Does this have any influence or inclusion in the styles of Xue Dian?
Also this forward leaning combat structure seems to be standard / mandatory for proper throwing too, especially, for example, for most basic techniques, like, “Shou Bie” 😳

    • @HaiYangChannel
      @HaiYangChannel  4 роки тому +1

You asked me a very interesting question. I would like to share my experience of it.
1, there are 3 styles of Shuaijiao in China: Beijing style, Tianjin Style and Baoding (in Hebei province) style. There are some people practice Shuaijiao in other areas of China but not considered as a Shuaijiao "area".
2, People can apply martial art movements into Shuaijiao, such as Cheng style Bagua, or maybe some Xingyi movements. But they are not shuaijiao at all. We call it Shuaifa "摔法”---throwing or wrestling methods.
3, Shou Bie is a wrestling term, not a martial art term. The leaning posture in kungfu is different from its principle used in wrestling. I studied a bit Shuaijiao when I was a kid even though my family never permitted me to do it much...
      I hope it is helpful.
      Thanks,

Thank you for the great teaching. I am training hebei style from the licunyi lineage and have been training very a very straight and vertical posture and have never felt like I am aligned. But this morning after watching this video and trying your advice on angling the body in Santishi which moves the upper body slightly of the vertical line I have realised that my shoulder/hip, elbow/knee and hand/foot are now perfectly aligned and my kwa is tucked in naturally as well as my alignment of weight down the back line and leg is much better.
