    Motorcycles are just too darn slow these days. Kawasaki solved the problem during a lunch break last year by mounting a supercharger to an engine they had laying around the shop, then stuck it in a leftover trellis frame from the storage shed. They grabbed some Ninja 650 suspension bits out of the bin and, poof, the Z H2 naked liter bike super slayer. What a time to be alive! Flying saucers are next.

    been fighting with my H2 SX/SE at the track. Forks bottom out when getting on the brakes hard after a long straight, even with max preload. Talked to a few suspension guru's and watching your videos. Went with stiffer fork springs, better but still bottoms out. While i do want to prevent bottoming out at the track, scared it will ruin the ride-ability on the street if i go with a even stiffer spring.

      @Dave Moss Tuning well i got no problem tossing some money at it. Not going to be spending 3k on ohlins forks. I'm in intermediate group for track days but not as fast as I could be. Just sucks that I have to brake super early to give myself the room to slow down so i dont bottom the forks out. Track day before last i could feel the forks bottom right out, shook the whole bike. Replaced the springs with racetech 1.1kg/mm springs, while it wasnt smashing on the bottom and shaking the bike anymore, i could feel the tire compressing.
      My buddy who races competitively said the same thing. Said there is alot more in the bike for speed and braking, but cant use it with the way the suspension is.

      Your seat needs to be 25-30mm higher with seat foam. That will help enormously. Check fork and shock travel to se eif you need maximum preload and compression to stop bottoming. If so, springs and thicker oil would be the budget remedy.

    This is a prestige model for crying out loud... For a bike that's $29K (USD) MSRP, and billed as street/track slayer, it looks like it comes with a pretty craptacular low end shock like you'd find on a $8000 entry level machine--the kind whose only reason for existence is that it would otherwise be a hardtail. Looks like they only put it there with the expectation you'll get something better and toss the old one on Ebay.
    Not only should it be a fully adjustable unit at this level, if they've got to make it so that you have to drop the shock just to adjust preload, it should have remote preload. Hell, throw an Ohlins, Penske or Nitron in there, bump the price a grand or two and call it a day. The sort of people who buy this kind of bike either won't care about a few measly dollars, or will recognize the value of having a proper setup.
    At 30K the bike really should with a decent suspension, and come with whatever weight springs are appropriate to the rider's weight, but also a coupon for a personal tuning session from Dave himself.

    I got myself a gen 1 z1000 2006 and found your old video on it ua-cam.com/video/TJ36e3fSRIc/v-deo.html ,have couple questions about it.
    My weight is 80kg,you are suggesting rider sag of 1 inch = 2,54 cm on the rear but you dont mention the rider sag in the front.
    1.Whats the minimum rider sag I could go with in the rear? Tried 2,00 cm and the bike seemed more stable in the corner than with the 2,54 cm where it turns easier but isnt as stable at the apex.
    2.Should both front and rear rider sag be the same number? If not whats the recommended rider sag for the front forks?
    Thank you in advance.

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  4 роки тому +1

      Fork sag at 2cm as you found provides better stability via spring tension. You can add more stability by tuning rebound. The rear shock is 2.5 to 3.5cm depending on your level of aggression. In both cases you refine sag via fork and shock travel used.

    • @str8edge142
      @str8edge142 4 роки тому

      @@catalystreactionsbw yeah I understand that Rebound is more related to balance than the rider sag, stock settings are 1 turn out both front and rear (for a 68kg rider) I guess I could go for 2 turns out both front and back (for a 80kg rider).
      About preload I was mistaken that I need 25mm in front and 20mm in the back but it makes more sense to me now to set it the other way arround.

    • @hillie47
      @hillie47 4 роки тому +2

      More than 1 percent of riders have a wallet limit that's higher than the standard liter bike, so the manufacturers will think "Sure, why not?". :-)

    • @rustyshackleford6874
      @rustyshackleford6874 4 роки тому +3

      I mean, that percentage is gonna be about the same for 600s, or even smaller bikes if we're honest. You don't need to be able to get anywhere near a bikes limit to open it up in a straight line and enjoy the torque of big engines

    • @Marlonzen
      @Marlonzen 3 роки тому +3

      The supercharger doesn't mean "LOL TURBO BOOST GOOOOO", the supercharger helps make the power instant and accessible at nearly all rev ranges and in every gear. It makes the bike far smoother in power delivery going 35-55, not just 150-180.
      So it isn't just for "the limit of a liter-bike", it's for all levels of the liter-bike.
      But cool sounding criticism, I guess.
