    A way I have been doing it is applying the color on the root and do the highlight from the bottom up at the same time as I go
    alternating especially when the hair is short the color between helps the foil stick and not slip.

    It’s tough to find a root touch up and highlights tutorial. I like this application I’ll try this forsure! And agree that highlights 1st then touch up hasn’t made much sense to me with timing and messiness. 🤔thank you! I used to live in West Seattle I miss the seasons! ⛈💜💫

    Yes! I call it a "shampoo swirl" in my notes when I use the base color to tone the hilights.

    I totally agree and I feel like highlighting first the color touch up can be more damaging on the highlighted part.

    How do you keep the hair of the highlights at the scalp over the color from turning orange?

  • @marychristine5833

    How do you recommend transitioning from full root bleaching to highlights? I still want to be blonde just with less maintenance. My natural hair is a level 4 and I feel like I never get enough blonde with highlights.

    Ok I’ve always wanted to try doing the foiling after I apply the root color. I’ve been scared but I’m going to try it!

      Same here! I hate having to move all of my foils around to go back and do the color.

      Is it pretty much guaranteed the bleach will just eat through the root color with no problems? I use wella, not sure if the color lines make a difference

    Hi So it’s ok for the bleach and the root colour to touch? I’ve been paranoid about this as thought it wd melt the hair or something 🤦‍♀️

    • @amandarobbins2530
      @amandarobbins2530 3 роки тому +3

      It won’t melt the hair but I have seen it cause orange banding

    Sorry im not familiar with the matrix line,in the UK here. Are you using a demi or permanent colour? My guess is permanent due to development time. Thanks in advance and love your videos x

  • @makeupbykarenj3051
    @makeupbykarenj3051 2 роки тому +1

    Kristie, so is the matrix ok to be in the hair longer than 45 minutes? Since it will take longer than 45 mins to do the foils and let the lightener process fully (for many people).

    Kristi do u have a tip removing dark brown color/level 3 from the skin please. What color remover do you use?

    • @jettacards6855
      @jettacards6855 2 місяці тому

      You can apply a little barrier on the skin with either some Vaseline or cream. Be carful to not hit the hair itself. Aveda has a great color remover for skin.

    can it be done with "permanent" colors? or just demis.
    i mean the blond doesn't get dirty or brassy ?can you get a clean lift with this method? since some of the color gets into the bleach..
    also can demis fully cover grey?
    thanks :))

    • @hairbykristijennings6648
      @hairbykristijennings6648  3 роки тому +2

      Demi doesn't fully cover grey. Only permanent. It can blend grey tho..... I only do this if someone doesn't want bright, cool blonde.

    Kristi, couldn't you for example foil one section, right side then apply color in between foil. Foil the other side and apply color between the foil. And do the same for the top and back. Then rinse each side starting at your first section you started.

    • @drewbabez7336

    • @LunaBeauty666

      With grey coverage you pretty much HAVE to start in the front, how would you rinse the front without compromising the back?

    • @hairbykristijennings6648
      @hairbykristijennings6648  3 роки тому +2

      Good question! And I personally wouldn't. That would be way too time consuming. Id have to mix 4 different bowls if color/ bleach to make sure it has the lifting power as the first section. And also rinsing would be a hot mess too. Im sure a person could, but I never would. It's shado also the point of moving the foils around to then go back and do the roots.
