What is YOUR favorite Thanksgiving dish? (Or favorite autumn dish if you don’t celebrate American Thanksgiving 😊).
My favorite Thanksgiving dish is sweet potato casserole. It's basically a dessert but we serve it as a side dish. It's so delicious, especially when served with baked apples. They taste great together.
I'm split between green bean casserole and sweet potatoe casserole
I love my mom’s recipe for pumpkin pie, I don’t like pie crust, so I skip making it.
Dressing (not stuffing)… not a turkey fan so am fine if we don’t cook one lol. Oh & deviled eggs !!! Your meal looks awesome & im sure it was very good ! Happy Thanksgiving!!!
I think my favorite dishes are green bean casserole cranberry sauce and pecan pie
My mom, who is in heaven, would always tell me, "You are peeling the potatoes away!" I miss her so much! Your meal looked lovely, Katie ❤
Your husband is so sweet talking about his grandma. Mine was the same way. She would peel potatoes with a knife, towards her own body without sticking herself, and would have at least 5 potatoes peeled while I was still working on my first.💜🌵
I do that too. It is better with my arthritis
I may have said this before, but I love how you do plant-based meals without being dogmatic about it. It's so refreshing.
Thanks! I know we are all just doing our best to keep ourselves fed and healthy ❤️
Marshmallows are not vegetarian
@@ering7530 Trader Joe's has vegan marshmallows if that's important to you. Paskesz kosher marshmallows are made with fish gelatin. In general, vegan marshmallows are more expensive than the common brands. Also, lots of families don't care about the label and just want to eat mostly plant based or "low on the food chain", or they make an exception for a once-a-year treat. These are all valid choices, and each of us finds our own balance.
@@raisingwildflowerssweet potato casserole is not a dessert
I hadn't actually noticed until you said that!
I enjoy watching you cook from scratch! Your meal looked delicious and the marshmallows on your sweet potatoes were perfectly broiled for my taste! Thanks for sharing your budget Thanksgiving meal.
You did a fantastic job cooking that meal everything looks delicious
You guys have the cutest relationship!! Never lose that sparkle & respect xx
Looks great. I did my budget for Thanksgiving and we came under 25.00 that is in Canada. We manage to get everything on sale including our turkey. The turkey was the most expensive at 12.00 but once we made the meals we had leftovers for three days and more in the freezer to use later. Thank you for sharing with us.
Same for me… love the Turkey leftovers
White sugar plus molasses in a blender makes brown sugar. Might be cheaper.
Exactly what I was going to write when I saw your comment
You can make your own brown sugar with white sugar and molasses. It is so easy and very tasty.
Yes, agree! Sweet potato casserole is dessert. Particularly if it has a pecan praline topping. Delicious!
Yum! That sounds delicious
Your cooking is so calming. You have inspired me to cook more intentionally and from scratch. Thank you so much for letting your light shine!💛✨
Plant based butter is less then 2 dollars because its pure processed vegetable oils. Im sure a little milk is way less toxic and more natural then plant nased
Then you could definitely do regular butter if you prefer. Dairy butter is probably a bit more toxic for those with a dairy allergy 😉
Lentil loaf is always a hit! Everything looks delicious! The marshmallows are just the way I like them!
Everything looks so good I'm going to try and make that lentil loaf
I don’t have a lot of oven space, so I make my stuffing and then I mix up my green bean casserole and put it on top of the stuffing. I bake it all and add the fried onion topping in the last 5 minutes. It is my family’s favorite side on holidays
Also I do my month shopping so I get my free turkey for spending $100
We usually make seitan pot pie for Thanksgiving. Since you taught us how to make seitan in a previous video, I'll use homemade seitan. Can be made with a top crust, with biscuits, or just seitan and veg in gravy (serve over mashed potatoes if desired). We also make roasted root veg, roasted Brussel sprouts, cranberry sauce, corn bread, and pumpkin pie.
That sounds delicious!!
What a beautiful meal ❤ thanks for sharing. I will definetly be trying the lentil loaf. We usually get those plant based roasts from gardein or whole foods but they are so pricey
Lentil loaf is so much better! We’ve tried those too and they are ok, but lentil loaf is AMAZING!
I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your videos you are teaching people so many things how to live very well with a budget how to take care of a family in the process how to teach your children to become responsible as they grow up I love the way you cook I have to try that lentil loaf I m very glad that you found a partner in life that shares your values you don’t have to have a 9 to 5 job to make a good life for your family
Lovely dinner, might just do the lentil loaf for Thanksgiving for us thank you, great idea! I'm mindful of the jet puffed marshmallows with gelatin, I've recently given the vegan Dandies brand a try and thought they were pretty darn good. They are expensive but they'll last me a year at least. We've been vegan a while now and have now gone back to vegetarian (darn cheese), I'm hoping to get myself back on track and eating better. I really enjoy your down to earth approach to life, thank you for all the hard work you put in on your channel! Favorite dish is roasted potatoes!
Trader Joes has vegan marshmallows that are not outrageously expensive.
Maybe lentil loaf with stuffing baked together. Maybe. Nobody in my family likes lentils.
The “got it done during my toddler’s naps” is even more impressive than the budget! I love that most traditional thanksgiving foods use very simple, frugal ingredients. Making my “poor man’s stuffed mushrooms” right now - the mushrooms are regular price but the filling is an onion, a head of garlic & all odds & ends for the rest lol… Carmelized onion & roasted garlic “jam” is the most flavorful way to use $2 and never fails to excite & impress…even when these ingredients aren’t trendy, they taste amazing! I do miss the days when few people knew how to make it tho, everyone thot I was an amazing chef 😂
It all looks delicious! I'm going to try some of your recipes.
I really enjoy watching your cooking videos. Thank you so much 😊
Love you made all that lovelyness without tons of gadgets and gizmos! Im going to try to make the lentil loaf in the next few days for visitors who dont choose to eat meat.
Wow! Your meal looked so delicious. It was fun to hear commentary from your honey and to see your big smile as you brought your meals to the table. Thank you for sharing your recipes!
We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here in Norway, but everything looked delicious, especially the sweet potatoes marshmallows dish 😋🥰
Thanks for sharing, and again so great and relaxing music in this video 😊
Love from Johanne, Norway 🇳🇴
Thank you! 😊
What a delicious meal!!!!! I want to try the lentil loaf!!!😊
You need to! When it’s not Thanksgiving, our favorite sides with the lentil loaf are mashed potatoes and peas 😋 Definitely a family favorite!!
I think it’s like pumpkin pie. So yes it can be like a dessert. I also love all Thanksgiving foods.
Yummy Thanksgiving! My family loves sweet potato casserole, too. I find it difficult to peel and cut them, I bake them so the skin just falls away. I don't lose any of the potato that way. My family would say your marshmallows were perfect since they like the crunch. Thanks for sharing your recipes!
Dinner looked delicious. Thanks for another great video, see you on the next one. Have a blessed day.
You did a fantastic job!! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your beautiful family!!!
I had people helping with dinner one year and my favourite potato peeling knife must have been thrown out !! Saddest day of my life and I've never found another one I like as much !! :(. One of our must have side dishes is mashed rutabaga layered with sliced apples and topped with a crumble. Delicious. Happy Thanksgiving. :)
Meg - is anything more than butter added to the mashed rutabaga? Thanks if you see this and are wiling to share!
@@mwahl1686Hi there....just butter and salt and pepper. But the apples I toss with brown sugar and cinnamon. Then the crumble topping is butter, brown sugar ,flour and cinnamon. I never use measurements! I just know that everybody loves it with any roast dinner. My Mum made it for years too. :)
For our family-I like to use croutons as the base for my stuffing! Super tasty & often times cheaper! Another option for those with food allergies is getting the plain bread crumbs-usually found in the bakery or to make your own in the oven with an inexpensive loaf of bread. One year I just cut up the bread I had- just as is from the bag, crushed up some plain saltine type crackers, chicken broth, bacon crumbles, chopped onion, garlic and ranch powder & some dried cranberries-- it was delicious! (I've also done this with rolls or bagels & it works well! I tend to try to use up whatever bread products we might already have)
Your meal looks absolutely delicious! And BTW darlin, your sweet potatoes looked divine!!! That's exactly how the best sweet potato casseroles come out of the oven looking on the top!!! It's great to show people, they can cook a wonderful dinner for their family and not break the bank doing so. ❤
What a wonderful meal. Thanks for the inspiration!
The food looks delicious, I hadn't thought about making meat loaf which would be great since I don't like turkey. All great ideas for Thanksgiving especially I love the not spending all day in the kitchen part.
Love this meal, gonna copy & add mushroom gravy.❤
Great teamwork!
We got our turkey for .38 lb , so under $5.00
Everything looks delicious!!!
Asher talking about his granny being a speed peeler cracked me up 😂
❤️ She is just as funny as he is 😂
You can easily make your own brown sugar. Just add a couple of tablespoons of molasses to a cup regular sugar & mux until well blended. For the darker brown sugar, just add more molasses. Molasses keeps well too. Mine lastsfor years.
Thank you for sharing ❤
I make my own brown sugar with reg sugar and mix in a little molasses.. Much cheaper.
All looks good!
Mmmm😋 look delicious 🤤
Love lentils, I might try the lentil-loaf🤗
Have a great Thanksgiving!
Thank you for sharing!
Blessings 💜💜💜
I made the lentil loaf today. Tired other recipes. This loaf is so tasty.
Thank you!!!
Glad you liked it!! ❤️
When my family makes mashed potatoes, no dairy is used. When we boil the potatoes it is done in broth and then the leftover broth is used as the liquid. Tastes amazing.
@raisingwildflowers if you have a stand mixer, you can make your own brown sugar using white sugar and molasses. The more molasses you use, the darker your brown sugar will be. Great video! Also, I make my own stuffing from scratch because the celery causes me a lot of pain. So what I do is that I make a cornbread sausage stuffing. You can use mushrooms instead of sausages though.
looks good. I do a stuffed baked sweet potatoe. Stuffed with sauteed cannellini beans, garlic, sundried tomatoes, onions and balsmaic. side dishes sauteed oinions and sauerkraut, steamed broccoli, crockpot apples and homemade cranberry sauce made with date paste instead of sugar. I hope that give someone some ideas. Everyones dietary needs are different so make it your own. My meal is also very budget friendly🌻
I will have to look into making Stuffed Sweet Potato for a regular meal. Sounds delicious thanks for mentioning it.
Bravo! 👏 Looks delicious.
Hi Katie n Family 🌻
We all look forward to our traditional Thanksgiving dinner. . Particularly green bean casserole and sweetheart salad 💖
Looks delicious. Great prices on the groceries, they would be almost double here In Ontario Canada. Enjoy your dinner!
everything looks so good. I love cranberry sauce too i add celery, pineapple and walnuts to mine its so delicious
I didn’t think they looked that good. Lentils for turkey I don’t think so!
Everything looks delicious. Thank you.❤❤❤
It looks yummy. I like the idea of lentil loaf. Favorite dish that has been served as I was growing up was pecan pie. If you're asking about non-dessert dishes it would turkey, cranberries, and the stuffing.
I think it’s like pumpkin pie. So yes it can be like a dessert.
Sometimes I turned the cresent rolls over half way through so they'll brown more evenly. Don't know why they brown so quickly on the bottom, I don't have that problem with yeast rolls or biscuits.
My favorite is my sister's Spinach Madeline and pecan pie! I do love sweet potatoes also.
Love the Grandma potato story ❤
Hi Katie 🌻
I have a sensitivity to MSG as well. . Unfortunately it seems to be in more foods lately 😢
It is! If I get a migraine, I can almost always trace it back to MSG I didn’t know about 😑
I've noticed this too :(
You know monosodium glutamate occurs naturally in foods, right?
@@jadadallas5891 MSG does not occur naturally in food. It is the synthetic version of glutamic acid.
I use whole chicken instead of turkey because it's cheaper for me
Nothing wrong with that. Poultry is poultry. I find most people get more excited over the side dishes anyway.
And just remember that any celebration is about spending time together and U don't need traditional foods......E.G. In Australia at Xmas we don't really want to cook or eat a massive turkey so we buy a whole lot of roteseriie chickens..
Yum! Yum!❤❤
My turkey was $21 ...but I got a free Ham for Christmas ⛄🎁
A little egg wash, oil or milk of any kind on top of the croissants would have made them finish a little more shiney and golden ;)
Isn't plant-based butter the same as margarine? I buy margarine and it's only like $1.24 for four sticks.
I've always wondered too, but have come to learn that margarine may contain traces of dairy products. I find these slight differences to be due to the type of manufacturing plant they come from and meeting certain requirements during the processing to prevent cross-contamination. For example, when something you buy doesn't contain nuts but there is a warning label it may contain traces of nuts, it means it was processed in the same manufacturing plant as an item that DOES contain nuts.
@yvonnepalmquist8676 oh thank you for your kind answer. I just learned something new
💕chubby who cleans up AND films.
To make brown sugar, just add a small amount of molasses to sugar.
Oh, lentil loaf. Would definitely savor that!
No one needs dessert if they have sweet potatoes with marshmallows. Sage/thyme/rosemary are good Thanksgiving herbs. Also, poultry seasoning is great for making things taste like poultry.
Looks yummy!
Would like the recipe for the lentil loaf please and thank you
😊 simple-veganista.com/the-ultimate-vegetable-lentil-loaf/
The lentil loaf looked good, ill give it a go with a flax egg 😊
My favorite is stuffing with cranberry
I love that combo too ❤️
Excellent video. TY !
I love the background music. It makes me feel peaceful.
Eatin' good in the neighborhood!!! Looks like a feast!
Now I have to try making that lentil loaf! I personally don't like turkey! I'm not a big fan of meat it's texture thing. So it's a struggle to force myself to eat it especially if I'm handling it raw and cooking it.
Thanks!
Thank you!! 😊
Great video. Your husband sounds so sweet. ❤
Wow! That was amazing
OK, go do it again. I forgot to hit record, lol 😂😂 beautiful meals🫶🏽
Walmart right after opening and an hour or so before closing tends to be very quiet. In my experience as both a customer and a former associate.
Don't throw away the sweetpotato-cooking-water! Reuse it for sa soupe. Its full of carbohydrates/ starch.
My granny peeled potatoes faster than your eyes could see,and no waste at all...whats more is she was almost blind..it was like the knife was part of her hand, the blade was so worn it was almost gone..i still have it safely tucked in a drawer but dont dare use it.its lethal 😅
Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Looks so good. Mine would be Pumkin pie, or pecan pie.
What are the ingredients in plant base butter?
Katie, you and your hubby are super cute together xo
❤️ I need to convince him to be in more videos! 😂
Love walmart.❤❤❤
Looks delicious
As always I’m shocked at what you can make for your money.
It just shows that all that basically cost $30 if you had nothing at home. And man the amount of food you have on the table is great.
Our prices in the uk are just going mad. I don’t think we could do it at that price or equivalent to the £. Even the turkey was well cheap. Ours are double that I’d say- I personally don’t buy it mum does but I’m aware she says atm meat is expensive but my dads a meat and 2 veg man with every meal. He can be a pain but she loves him so I do lol.
Well done.
I am surprised how much brown sugar you put in the cranberries and the sweet potatoes casserole. The lentil loaf looked healthy.
Beautiful vid. I love savory sweet potatoes … salt, black pepper, butter, and a dash of cumin, but otherwise we are on track. I like roasted carrots that way also. I, like you love whole foods, though I don’t care for celery, celery seeds or weeds, but nit the stalks. Go figure.
Oh, cumin sounds great! I’ve never tried them that way but I love cumin so definitely need to 😋
Sweet potato soup
Looks yummy
Why hate a grocery store? Instead, be grateful you access to food
You can be both grateful for access to food and also hate the environment of a store.
That looks good, but that's a whole lot of carbs.
Those aren't croissants. Those are crescent rolls. There's a difference. Everything looks great though.
