I was an Atheist and became a former Atheist via Scientific Experimentations.
Yes, real layered out and accurate experiments only a God species could trigger factual results in.
Example of one my experiments and I done it three times over 6 weeks.
Wrote down a movie, the name of an actor and a line the actor says in the movie.
I sat alone and just thought, "I have this written down and I am telling not one person what I am doing. if your species exists, you or one of you have three weeks to have me randomly arrive at a location where I will hear someone say the movie title, the actors name and the quote they say in the movie." Two and a half weeks later I am shopping in a grocery store and some people on the next aisle over start talking about movies. One says the movie title, the other says the actor and then say the line in the movie.
I think, Hmm, what a coincidence.
So, a few days alter I repeat it, only I write down a TV show from my youth years. I was born in 1966 and had a good selection to choose from. I sit and just think, "It is likely it was just a coincidence, but we will try another to see if we get the same results. You have two weeks this time." Two weeks later on the other side of town I am shopping again and as I am checking out, the people behind me start talking about TV shows and one says the name of the TV show and says the actor's name. The other says the line." I turn enough to see them, but they are much younger than I am. I am thinking that its odd foe their age to bring up that older TV show when they were just talking about current TV shows.
So, I write down another movie, actress name and the line she says. I think, "One week this time". A week later I am in a department store, but on the food aisle and a few shoppers near me (on the same aisle) start talking about the movie, one says the actresses' name and says the line. At this point I cannot claim a coincidence and I start to feel uncomfortable. So, I think, "This is creeping me out. I am going to take some time off from the experiments and let this sink in." Suddenly I remember hearing breaking glass and a second later I hear glass break. Then I remember seeing a stock guy picking up square white dishes from a split open blue and white box. I leave the food aisle and head for the kitchen aisle and as I turn the corner, there is the guy I remember seeing and he is picking up the square white dishes from the blue and white box that's split open on the floor.
I get nauseated and I instantly realize I was not the one initiating the experiments, but it was whomever was interested in me. I start thinking about some of the things over the last few months that got me to decide to the experiment to see if there was a God species. It all seemed scripted out like someone was programming the events, including the experiments. All I kept thinking about is how many times I mocked people for thinking there were Gods or a supreme God out there. I remember thinking the crazy person with the End of the Word sign on the street corner, possibly knew more than I did.
Now every time I post this, I get replies of people who call me a liar or a fake or a delusional person.
I honestly could care less as I was just as ignorant, and I cannot hate on them as I was in the same fantasy as they are.
This was decades ago and the tests or experiments or training has never stopped.
      Another Coincidence:
Seeing almost every truck and trailer coming into the seaport one day with the same three numbers. I tell the relieving officers and they spread the numbers to everyone working on the port. I come back to work the next day, and everyone won the Lottery. All three numbers came in the same exact order. I do not pay the lottery, so they all laughed at me for being stupid. Later this one woman came to me and gave me $20 of her winnings as a thank you. None of my coworkers tipped me, none of the port workers tipped me, but the one who did, she was the one woman they all warned me to stay away from, because she as a floozy who slept around with the truckers to make extra money. The one they despised was more thoughtful than all of them.
      Another Coincidence:
My wife and I get invited to go to a Sunday church service, but I am thinking of not going as I do not feel like doing research on religions that morning. (At this point I know there is a God species, I am just trying to narrow it down to a possible religion's God or Gods). My wife already has a shower and is half dressed, so I get a shower and toss on a half suit ad half relaxed pants. As we are getting on the interstate, there is a man opening the trunk of his car just aside the emergency lane in the grass. Instantly I know we need to take our jack and tire iron to him. I tell my wife and she agreed, so we got off, got back on and circled around to him. I got out the jack and tire iron and as I walk up to him, he asks, "Are you a Christian?" I say, "Something like that." and he says, "This car has no jack or tire iron, but it has a spare. Just as I realized I was in a sinch, you drive up and get out your jack and tire iron." I tell him he can have them, and we will get replacements and we leave.
      Another Coincidence X 2:
Both of the last two major stock market crashes over the last 20 years, the same week as the crash I had my wife get the largest loan on her 401K that she was able to get. The same weeks as the crashes is when she got the deposits in our bank account. Both times her 401K grew at 9% instead of suffering great losses like everyone else.
I have had a constant flow of Coincidences for decades.
Some borderlinking miracle level and a few reached miracle levels.
I 100% know there is a God species out there, and I know what they are, and how they procreate.

Shawn, I hope you personally see and read this specific scripture and understand exactly what it means in your soul. It's all from God's devine revelation and understanding He gives to us and He saves us.. Jesus didn't come that we understand we do it all ourselves. It's by the help of The Holy Spirit not on human efforts alone.
The bible explains against Peterson's eloquent explaining.
      1 Corinthians 2:1-16
[1] And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. [2] For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. [3] I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling, [4] and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, [5] so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God. [6] Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away; [7] but we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory; [8] the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it they would not have crucified the Lord of glory; [9] but just as it is written, “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the heart of man, All that God has prepared for those who love Him.” [10] For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. [11] For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. [12] Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, [13] which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. [14] But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. [15] But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. [16] For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.

I was pull away from God but his lessons and principles never left me even when my faith was weakest. Today I stand a proud Christain. @@christinpopculturePistis/Pisteuo means to “trust in” or “rely on.” “Entrust to” isn’t the best translation. Petersen has a very works-righteousness view on atonement. His faith seems to be in the atonement of individuals for restoration. Certainly it is works that save a man-but it’s the work of Christ alone.
No man can see into the heart of another, but a man can certainly use wise judgment. I do not discern biblical faith in Petersen. It does not appear that he “relies upon” the finished work of Christ to atone for sin.

My family is collapsing, I’m facing eviction, food is hard to come by. During all this time, God felt so far away. My eyes have become fully open in the midst of the face of death, God is ripping me from these shackles and awakening a new found faith in him. I appreciate Jordan's insights on Jesus and faith; he often speaks with wisdom and depth. Yet, when he discusses the role of faith in Jesus, his perspective seems to lean more towards self-reliance, akin to 'have faith in yourself.' This differs fundamentally from a core Christian tenet: our own frailty and the necessity of leaning on Jesus for salvation. Christianity isn't about exerting extreme effort to dominate every aspect of our lives, nor is it a simple directive like 'clean your room.' Rather, it's an acknowledgment of our inability to 'clean our room' due to our fallen nature, coupled with the belief that Jesus grants us His sanctity. With His strength, day by day, He aids us in our struggles.
When Jesus declared, "I am the way," He wasn't advocating for a stoic, solitary confrontation with life's evils on our own terms. Although Jordan has a deep respect for the Bible, his interpretations often resemble self-help more than the gospel I recognize. He seems to overlook the essential message that our strength and redemption come not from within ourselves, but from Christ.

    • @s.a.6082
      @s.a.6082 29 днів тому +15

Exactly. On point. He has so much wisdom yet can’t see the simplicity of the gospel. We cannot save ourselves, period. We believe (trust) in Jesus for eternal life. We don’t believe in him as some sort of archetype so we can pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and save ourselves. Jordan doesn’t get it. His intelligence seems to be a hindrance to seeing his own need for a savior. I hope and pray he gets it someday!

As tedious and time consuming as it may be, it would be helpful if you go into this more. Because from what I have read, these core biblical tenets that you emphasised and Jordan's explanations could still be complementary rather than conflicting.
As fallen humans, there is still something that we must initially create even if that is simply a surrender to the Lord Christ. We are the ones that must do that - that is still something.

    • @MarkTheManifestor
      @MarkTheManifestor 28 днів тому +3

Then you obviously have not really READ the Bible - or you've read but not UNDERSTOOD: it’s not a novel nor a history book, it’s called the “Bible”. Romans 12:2: you are transformed by the renewing of your MIND. Not your faith, not your Bible, not your church's baptism practice, not by Christ! (shocker).
The new testament was written by Hellenic Greeks (ie. mythologists) and of Christ himself it is written that when he spoke, he spoke in parables and when he did not speak in parables he did not speak (Matthew 13:34). It’s all a parable! To show you that you are all gods (to quote Christ John 10:34), that you are ONE (not two) with God, that Christ is IN you (not outside), and is with you until the end of days (ie. not coming back), that the first two words of the Lord’s Prayer is “Our Father” (not “my friend Jesus’ father”). Jesus is the archetypical human being. But "Christians" will still hang onto their religious teachings and shame others for being nonbelievers, shame "sinners", "backsliders", etc, or blame "the Devil" for their own demise (ps. there's no Devil, read Isaiah 45:7). I think Jordan's interpretation is absolutely valid.
Loosen your grip on the Biblical dogma - it will kill you (2 Corinthians 3:6).

I agree with Jordan on this, but I will add something. Often we fight against our own cowardice. Our own lack of gratitude. Our own selfishness. When you follow Christ, your biggest enemy is often yourself. At least that has been my experience. As I get older I realize that everyone who ends up in hell, makes an active choice to be there. I'm still living over trauma and my darker side always shoves me in that depression hole. I feel so weak sometimes with no one to turn to or relate to at the level I operate at because I'm the first of my friends and family to make it this far. I have Christ to thank, but I wish I had someone to coach me though handling the success I've achieved. Continuing to pray about it.

All it takes to begin your walk as a Christian is this.... it's written in Romans 10:9 - If you declare with your mouth, JESUS is LORD, and BELIEVE in your HEART that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
THEN you begin your life anew, and you learn to rely on HIM for your walk each day.
Something else that is CRUCIAL to remember about this dilemma of Jordan declaring his faith, and as stated in Matthew 10:33 - But whoever DENIES me before men, I will also deny before my father who is in heaven.
I love listening to Jordan Peterson...he's one of the greatest minds of our times and a man who has stood in the gap for what is right on numerous occasions as well as endured terrible physical health issues. He is beloved by MANY, including me.
However, I have not once heard him say without hesitation that Jesus Christ IS his lord and savior and publicly declare this in a manner that is absolutely unambiguous. I am praying that this happens, and he is 100% on fire for Christ. Until then, he is still on the fence and not letting God speak these truths to his HEART as well as his head.

Amen, this is what I say every time I hear him respond to people asking him these questions. He thinks everything literal about the Bible is merely philosophical and although he has things to teach he's also leading so many astray who would have otherwise come to Christ. Jesus is who he says he is. He is not only speaking in metaphor. He IS God in human flesh he WAS born of a virgin birth he truly was SINLESS and gave up the ghost on the cross by baring the sin of all humanity. He DID rise 3 days after and he is sitting at the right hand of the Father. Not metaphorically, literally. Jordan professes none of this and constantly dodges the questions and acts like he has the "true" meaning of the scriptures. So sad.

The apostle Paul said that we are to deny ourselves and pick up our cross daily. The Western church is about for the most part, what do I get out of this deal. There is some merit there, but that is not the core of the gospel. Jordan is exactly right, Christ calls us to come and die so that we may live. It's about being set free from sin so that you can become a child of God, slave to righteousness, living sacrifice, and be in the presence of an actual divine Being. Peterson just psychologizes all the big stuff away and says pick up your cross because that's the path to what's most real. He's preaching works fundamentally. But the gospel is about forgiveness by grace through faith, not works.

I greatly admire Dr. Peterson as he helped me immensely when I was in grad school trying to navigate the postmodern waters without understanding what postmodernism was or even that postmodernism was the water I was swimming in. It was his insights about postmodernism, Marxism, Christianity, and psychology that kick started my journey toward being on solid rock rather than being tossed around by the latest progressive idea. That said, it's hard for me to watch him get so defensive around the subject of God. I understand he doesn't want shallow Christians claiming him as one of their own. I wouldn't either. I agree with him that the modern conception of belief is shallow. But when I hear him only talking about the difficult aspects of the faith, I have to wonder if he knows anything of the joy and peace that is found in it. I wonder if he knows anything about what it is to receive the righteousness of God and to be called an adopted son. He seems to think that the archetypal pattern of the passion narrative is the point. It's not. The archetypal pattern of the passion is archetypal by necessity, but the point was that through the shed blood of Jesus, we could have peace with God and be in the new covenant of blood which marked the end of the sacrificial system and was the culmination of all the Jewish covenants. We can now receive the righteousness of God in exchange for our sin. We can enter into prayer with God and begin to hear His voice revealing the things that need to change, how we need to see things differently, what parts of us need to go that we didn't think were a big deal. I want this for Dr. Peterson. He seems to really believe that he understands these stories, but from where I sit, his understanding is weak. Which is a weird thing for me to think, given how much respect I have for him.

    • @walter_the_robot

I wish when people question him about his beliefs they were more direct and clear. Something as simple as "do you believe that Christ, the Son of God, literally died on the cross and was resurrected in order to atone for mankind's sin?" I've listened to hundreds of hours of Dr. Peterson speaking, much of it about the Bible and Christianity, but he continues to evade a real answer by complaining how the question is phrased. In my experience, most atheists (i.e. Sam Harris) over estimate their intelligence and under estimate the intelligence of Christians. They look down at Christians who they deem as stupid or naive for believing in "fairy tales". I think that Dr. Peterson does something similar. He doesn't want to be put in a box by believers, so he obfuscates his beliefs and never answers the question. I think people like himself and Carl Jung, whom he quotes very often, tend to apply far too much psychology to theology and want to turn everything into an archetype or philosophical statement. In my opinion if you read the Bible with only that angle in mind, you miss out on this big picture. If you don't believe that the events described literally took place in space and time, then you can't believe the Bible is the literal living word of God, because that would mean there are lies in the word. At that point, you are totally relying on your own intellect to discern what is true and what is false. This always makes me think of the downfall of Satan, and what I believe is truly the original sin in the garden. Adam and Eve wanted to become like God, to gain His knowledge. Satan wanted Adam and Eve to be like him, fallen and cast out from the presence of God. We have to be careful not to obfuscate the word of God because there is a danger in making it too abstract and thinking we are more wise than the Holy Spirit.

Maybe you should read the Bible fully, yourself - not just prompted by your priest once a week:
      Matthew 13:13:
"This is why I speak to them in parables: 'Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.'"
This verse highlights that Jesus intentionally used parables to convey spiritual truths, illustrating that the truths of the kingdom of God are not always straightforward or literal but require insight and reflection to understand. This can serve as a reflection on the nature of biblical interpretation and the deeper understanding required, which seems to be a central theme about Dr. Peterson's approach to the Bible and its teachings. How is that wrong?
And by the way, the Bible talks about how you are God's finest creature, perfectly made in his image. Forget about sin, you don't even understand the meaning of the word - please look up the Hebrew and Greek original words (hint: it doesn't mean that you have been a naughty boy!)

The sick person has to abide with the doctor until they are healed. The sick person if he follows the doctors instructions is not healed because he deserves it which is legalism but because the behaviors from the obedience bring about a state of healing. It doesnt matter how legalistic to the instructions a sick person is if they continue to do the things that make them sick. This is like the pharisees who didnt even know God and followed the Law legalistically as to "deserve it" instead of from a genuine heart like Abraham did who really knew God and obeyed him out of love.
But how nonsense would it be to think you would be saved by the doctor while not believing you need to follow any of his instructions and you'll be somehow healed anyways while sewing to the destruction of the flesh. That could hardly be called believing in the doctor to begin with especially since the Dr himself gave specific instructions on this that are often skipped over for the more pleasant idea of just say you believe in the Dr and you'll be healed. Hopefully that's a good enough analogy. I mean no judgement. If necessary I can also just give you all the references from the sources I'm talking about so you can soberly approach this topic and not let people mislead you by using Paul out of context when he's speaking about something specific.

I had a dream recently where I was being tortured by demons but I wasn't afraid for I knew they were doing no harm to me yet I could feel the harm but at some point they said here its time for your crucifixion and I rejected it and they stopped and began saying well this is part of the game you are playing this is what comes with it. later in waking hours I found myself ashamed that I found myself not taking up that responsibility of my belief and feared the devil more than god by not following through with the unjust persecution and idea of dying there because I knew Christ had done that for all of us. I've always had a hard time dealing with being treated unfairly with grace but now I'm starting to understand that to follow Christ is to put yourself up against that same judgement by the world that he received. You are trying to attain eternal life through soul power, and doing ritualistic mumbo-jumbo. Half of what you believe is non-biblical man-made nonsense. I love this but I just can’t help but feel discomfort in how Jordon Peterson responds to this one degree. This being that he always seems to philosophize the Bible, God Word. That being Born Again is some kind of humanist natural thing that can be achieved. I do not know if he does believe this in completion, or if he is simply explaining it in reality and that makes it appear humanistic. Nonetheless, the lack of clarification makes it seems that it is humanistic and that we can essentially save ourselves by ourselves coming to an understanding of our truth OURSELVES. When the reality is we can’t. It takes the interaction and power of God to transform us to come to the realization of Christ and His Gospel!

It's also possible that JP is not sharing his full personal belief here. He has said before that he is very aware of his influence and also aware of how people misinterpret what it means to be a Christian... that most people don't really understand what that means. So that's why he answers these questions from a philosophy and psychology angle... because that's his expertise. So he's answering as a psychologist, intellectually...and he is keeping his deeper personal beliefs private. He has shared a lot of himself with the world so far, but I think when it comes to this, he knows he doesn't owe the world a front row seat to his conversations with God.

@@MTech07 I really love your points and I do believe them all. And it's actually your very point that is the point of 'criticism'. It seems as if he is making the Gospel a humanistic (Pharisaical) achievement, but not by means of works as we generally identify them, but works in the sense of coming to an understanding. That we ourselves have to think about these and achieve resurrection or heaven by coming to the right thought. And because it wasn't clear what he exactly was doing, because of his own desire to do so btw, it seems he is not rightly dividing the Word of truth. And that was what I was essentially saying. I really don't know/can't know his place, but I think his reclusiveness to outright listen to what the Word itself says about faith and Christ is problematic and ineffective. We also have to consider that he may very well be a wolf in sheep clothing, because we know that the devil hides as an angel of light. He may be getting so close to the truth but deceiving in that one point: reliance on Christ, faith in Christ alone. Because it's not our understanding or our abilities but simple faith. The Bible doesn't philosophically approach faith, but says to have it simply and knowing that God has the power alone to transform.
      Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Jordan is so deeply intellectual that he refuses to simply allow things such as religion or religious beliefs be something in which people can undermine his teachings or words by trying to label him as a religious man in a way to claim the only reason he has the thoughts he does or advice he gives is in any way based on some blind faith in a book.
But he also doesn't sit there and try to disregard anyone who does hold these beleifs and faith in these teachings. And the fact he understands the disservice that would make his words more scrutinized and undermined if he took one stance or another regarding this issue shows to me just how intelligent this man truly is.

Belief or true faith requires repentance. Repentance literally means to turn. We turn away from our flesh daily and pick up our cross and follow Christ. The part of this that DJP misses is grace. If we could behave like Christ (sinless) then Christ wouldn’t have had to die. There would be no sin to atone for. This is where grace kicks in. We commit to Christ in our flesh knowing there will be failure in the light of grace. We are legally justified upon salvation, and we receive the Holy Spirit. Through sanctification our moral standing approaches our legal standing. Ultimately those two intersect at Christ’s return.

I think Peterson talks like faith as a mustard seed doesn't save. We aren't taking on Christ's duty. In becoming like Christ we should be able to joyously face hell for others. Like the disciples who were brutally tortured. Not involuntary punishment but voluntary sacrifice.

@@johnwheeler3071 agree. I think he’s being very intentional with his language in avoiding these questions. I personally think it’s because he doesn’t actually believe in the literal truth of the Bible, but he thinks that, in general, it’s good for people to believe in a Christian God. And so he walks this line of promoting Christianity, but also avoiding committing to any literal belief in the supernatural claims of the Bible.
I also think that’s why he uses made up terms like “meta-true” instead of just saying something is a metaphor. It’s very deceiving and super patronizing in my opinion.

I understand your reasoning, but perhaps you do not value symbolic interpretation of scripture as much as a forensic description in the pursuit of truth, based on your response. In the current era, there is often a tendency to approach scripture with a forensic, materialistic, and scientific mindset. However, this approach is not, and should not be, the one taken when interpreting works by authors like Shakespeare or Dostoyevsky, so why apply it to scripture and ancient texts? They were not written with that intent. I recommend focusing more on uncovering the underlying meanings of the stories rather than conducting a forensic analysis, such as of the resurrection. The ambiguity in scripture serves a purpose. This is where I believe Peterson's analysis originates from, and I certainly credit him for that.
