I just bought one. I keep car wash tokens in the cubby on the dash. And my gym membership tag. And some other trinkets that the sun won’t burn. The Apple car play is great. I love the quiet and smoothness and the seats are great. It has a CD player in the glove box. AC cools the inside super quickly. There are lots of thoughtful engineering benefits I find the longer I drive it. I feel like I spent more money than I did especially with the $5,000 dealer discount. I wish the armrest was adjustable. I love the huge Map Pockets/Bottle Holders in the door. It also only requires regular gas and not premium. I also appreciate 1-touch up/down on all 4 windows. The doors are heavy and solid. There is also a nozzle that squirts warm water on the back up camera lens that cleans off snow or mud. Many don’t know this. You can also close the windows after getting out of the Tiguan by simply placing your thumb on the door knob dimple, the same dimple that’s used for locking/unlocking. It’s takes about 3 seconds and all windows/moonroof close. Best of all VW includes a 6 year / 72,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty on the 2019 models so go get yours fast because it will be a 4 year / 50,000 mile warranty beginning in 2020 with a 2 year scheduled maintenance plan included. Great review! I love that Pyrite Silver which is a new color for VW. Mine is black.

Bryan Lucas it’s the torque that counts buddy and I find no lack of power. I consciously chose not to be fckd by a CVT. The Rav-4 was slow, Lexus out of my budget, Korean felt uninspired, domestics are plastic garbage no good Chinese components.
For those who are considering a family compact SUV, this one is a great option. I found CRV even sluggish with power, CVT was just not reliable while RAV 4 felt a lot more plastic. If you ditch the R-Line trimand come down to SE/SEL trim, it offers the best value out of the segment in the industry. Amazing room, lots of cargo space, very responsive infotainment system with Android auto or Apple car play and a very smooth ride with enough power.

@@aliqureshi3649 the driving experience is trash dude they’re both weak 0-60 at over 8 seconds. Maybe a bit larger but sluggish for sure. I can’t believe it tows less than a small ass Kia wtf
@oshitomaha none of the SUVs in the segment is famous for 0-60. Neither CRV, nor RAV4, not even Volvos. They are known for efficiency, comfort, and space. My definition of drive experience is smooth ride and quiet cabin. Your definition is clearly different so, no argument
“Why don’t we fire this up and hear how this fake exhaust sounds”. Classic Joe! Yeah this thing is WAY underpowered. If you look at the 2016-2017 Tiguan, it’s like 220 HP, it’s basically a GTI on stilts, and oh with AWD. Can’t afford a Golf R and need an AWD vehicle, take a look at 2016-2017 CPO Tiguan R or SEL, they go for about 19K, and had an original MSRP of 40K. I just test drove one and loved it, might be my next vehicle.
Ben Vernick I love my new Tiguan and it’s far and away better than the previous gen even with the HP difference the torque is greater and makes up for it. I had the previous one and love this new one. It’s peppy and they weren’t designed to be that fast because mostly older people buy them. I’m probably the youngest Tiguan buyer at 25. It is a bloated American version but I haul all my gear behind the second row and never use the 3rd row. The warranty is the longest around and the dealer took off $5500.00 her in Edmond Oklahoma. I feel like I spent more. The leatherette is easy to clean and the apple car play is great. The Tiguan is smooth and quiet and only takes regular gas. The Rav-4 & CRV were slow too
Good review but a couple things the reviewer said the car doesn't have...but does: 1. Seat memory positions: These can be toggled through when the car is turned on. There are 3 different profiles and can be tied to separate keys. 2. Navigation in the dash: Because this car didn't have the nav card inserted, it wasn't allowed. Once purchased (comes with the car), you can toggle if you want nav on the touch screen, in the center of the dash or on the full dash. You can also place turn by turn in the middle of the tach or speedometer.
It's all show no go. Not worth $35k. It's a shame as it's such a handsome SUV. Needs more power , as it should at least have a trim version to match Mazda's CX5 top of the line turbo charged engine.
j cortes I just bought one and everyone that has driven it says it’s a peppy 4-banger and faster than they expected. I would love more power but it’s not a GTI on stilts. The dealer offers $5000-$7000 off where I live in Oklahoma City. I have no regrets and it feels like i spent much more than I did which I can’t say for all the competitors I drove: and they all felt painfully slow. Especially the Rav-4 & Hondas.
The top model has the nav map in the Speedo area like the Audi. I agree it needs more power. For the money I like the the Hyundai Santa Fe better loaded with dealer discount the price was 33000 list was close to 38000
Brian USA I drove the Santa Fe and liked it but then drove the Tiguan and loved it and bought it. My fear was that the Santa Fe would be dated once the new one goes on sale in 2020. The redesign with some modern and much needed changes.
Seriously considered the Tiguan last year when my wife and I were considering a new crossover as her daily driver and the family's trip vehicle. My impressions... () As a GTI owner I found the performance sluggish. However, putting the Tiguan in "sport" mode made a significant difference. Still not a GTI but no longer sluggish. If I owned one I'd add a Stage I APR tune to the engine for about $800 and increase the HP and torque by about 40%. (Unless a warranty issue can be shown to result directly from the tune, it doesn't invalidate the warranty by the way.) Remember this IS the same engine as the GTI; the difference lies in the tuning. () The third row is a cruel joke. Suitable only for the S&M crowd for holding a small bound and gagged hostage. Fortunately, it's a low cost option rather than a standard feature. Save the $500 and put it toward a Stage I tune. () Handling and drive-ability. Best in class. No contest. Unfortunately, though, the American version of the Tiguan uses a conventional automatic rather than the DSG available in Europe (where it is known as the Allspace rather than the Tiguan and the smaller previous version of the Tiguan is still sold.) Nevertheless, if you're partial to the handling of European vehicles, the Tiguan is far and away the best in its class. () Utility. Although the Tiguan (along with the Nissan Rogue) is typically considered a "compact" crossover, at 185" in length it's up to six inches longer than the competition (e.g. Mazda CX-5) in the class and has extremely generous cargo space. It has up to 73.5 cubic ft of cargo space behind the front row (versus 59.6 in the Mazda CX-5) Furthermore, the cargo space is especially well designed as a box with relatively wide space, low liftover, and minimal intrusion into the space. () Bottom line. Ultimately we purchased a KIA Sorento, slightly larger than the Tiguan (189" in length), a close cousin of the Hyundai Santa Fe but with a V6 engine and an occasional third row that's actually usable. Had the priorities been solely mine I might have opted for the Tiguan and invested in a Stage I tune. But since the family truckster is my wife's daily driver and the vehicle we use for f trips, the Sorento better met our overall needs.
Hey man, liked your critique and points. The Sorento is a great car and looks good with the new exterior updates brought up recently. I went with the Tiguan because the drive feel was more satisfying then other cars in its class, and the third row has been very helpful in times where we had to carry 6+ people like once a year for a week, but didn’t need the whole car to be tuned around it as it was a niche type of use. Doesn’t intrude in cargo space much so I was okay with it. I was really considering the new CRV but the killer for me was the CVR. It is modern and gets you a solid 38 mpg in the highway, but I can easily do around 32-34 on the Tiguan if I drive economically, which is fine by me. The most important part about the Tiguan is the transmission.. man does it change the car completely. It allows me to go in “fun mode” while being able to still get 30 mpg on my standard non-highway drive home. Curves are handled with ease. I hope your Sorento serves you well!
@@thekaysers3301 Good points all. I'd note that the Tiguan All Space (the US Tiguuan) apparently comes standard with a third row overseas while it's a $500 option in the US. This reflects the national differences in terms of what consumers consider an adequate vehicle size. VW has been burned repeatedly with their Euro-spec vehicles in the US. The Euro Passat, for example, was replaced by the larger (and cheaper) US Passat and sales increased significantly. The Tourareg has been replaced with the larger, cheaper VW Atlas in the US. And the last generation Tiguan has been discontinued in the US despite the fact that a short wheelbase version of the Tiguan continues in Europe. VW has announced the Golf won't be exported to the US for the next model year. In effect, it's being replaced by the larger Jetta that's not offered in Europe. Finally, VW has discontinued both the Golf Sportwagen and the AllTrack in the US. That probably reflects as much the dismal sales of wagons ("Estates" in Europe) in the US as much as a rejection of the specific models by American consumers but I think it's a shame. As I said in my original comment the family crossover is my wife's daily driver so she got one and a half votes to my one vote on what to buy. She already loved our 2012 Sorento and replacing it with the current generation was an easy choice for her. Like many drivers of short "stature" (also known as females) she preferred the somewhat higher ("command") seating position of the Sorento compared to the Tiguan. Like you, we seldom use the third row of seats but it is more accommodating than the Tiguan and it's VERY convenient for chauffeuring a gaggle of teenagers or allowing us to take a single vehicle when we have six or seven passengers. It doesn't handle as well as the Tiguan but I have my GTI for canyon carving and I treasure it. All in all, kudos for your choice. If you're after more performance with a small sacrifice in fuel economy I'd recommend you look into a Stage 1 tune from APR. You'll be amazed at the improved performance. You won't have to worry about clutch replacement with the automatic transmission, and contrary to conventional wisdom a Stage 1 doesn't invalidate your warranty unless a issue can be shown to result directly from the tune, itself.
Stephen Hendricks very interesting points. I hope to see some interesting choices in the VW lineup in the next few years. Currently the Tiguan will likely end up being our family hauler, and perhaps I can get myself my own GTI. I do think the Tiguan has its ups and downs, but I don’t think we will own it for longer then then 6 year/72k bumper to bumper. After that point I will likely gravitate to something smaller. At least you will have peace of mind in that sorento!
Stephen Hendricks I purchased the Tiguan in April and I love it and I agree with your points for the most part except the 3rd row works great for my needs and the dealer was so generous with discounts I feel like the 3rd row was a no charge bonus.
Does this really not have a navigation on the dashboard ? I saw another 2019 SEL 2.0 T but it wasn’t R-line edition and it did have the navigation on the dashboard behind the wheel
Got mine last week and I love it. Mine is AWD and it has the Auto dimming mirrors but no 3rd row. If you want a 3rd row get the much larger Atlas. The seats will lay flat and click into place. The speed is better when you go into Sport mode. The little Hotdog tray on the dash board can be changed out to have a door so you can store some stuff in it. which I plan on doing soon. The over seas Tiguan has the door already. You can get a SEL Premium R Line Black that has all of the bells and whistles for a lot more but the wheels will not be black.
I can't believe Volkswagen tried to squeeze a 3rd row into this vehicle. It's clearly cramped! I would not do my children like that haha get the Atlas if you need a 3rd row my gosh!
Gio S6 I think it’s great for my nieces & nephews and my parents all fit when we go to dinner and back. It’s not a horrible thing. It’s kind of a small advantage to have an emergency 3rd row that really works. I think the Rogue and Outlander offer them as well. I can’t afford the huge atlas and it wouldn’t fit on my driveway. So it works for many of us. Thank you VW!
That 3rd row is a joke, its a marketing move so you can say it in a commercial just to bring people to the dealer. There is literally no space for legs of anyone,im sorrytoddlers leg might fit but they should be seated in a carseat
Alexander Khlapov I agree with Almost every word you said except I did buy a 2019 recently with 3rd row knowing full well its tiny but as you said I can fit 3 of my little nieces and nephews back there because the second row slides forward 6” which makes the difference needed to accommodate the kiddos for now. My grandma is tiny and we get her back there for trips under 30 minutes to dinner. It may be a gimmick but I do use it pretty often because it can work for some people like me and my family. I don’t ha be room in my 3 car driveway for the width of the Atlas so I settled on Tiguan and it works well. I’ll do a Hyundai Palisade in the 3 years when my Tiguan lease is complete. I wouldn’t defend the Tiguan here if I didn’t like the car for the price I paid. It’s well built. There are cupholders back in the 3rd row and the air conditioning gets back there well and I tuck it into the floor when I don’t use that row.
Great video:-):-) you have great car review you aee on your way. Lookiing for this to buy. This suv is better than rav 4 or crv. German car alway seem to feel more solid all around, weather is chassis or steering feel. Do you know if this suv is reliable?? Thanks
I have a ‘19 SEL Premium 4Motion and I have an auto dimming mirror and memory seats. Did they remove those with the mid year refresh? Mine has the “older” more round digital cluster as well. But, I’d gladly keep it for my mirror and memory seats.
Great video believe it or not there is a reason the exhaust are fake. Manufactures hide the tips so that carbon deposits don’t build up on the bumper/paint. This allows cars to be cleaned easier and protects the paint from being stained
Im a 2019 Rline tech owner.. Navigation does show in the main dash in the RLine Tech. It actually shows on both on the Tech. Short wheel base which i have is much better than the all space. It does have led lights, Acc, lane assist, 360 cameras, self parking. This video was not a very good representation of the RLine. very disappounting.
@@tsherman393 I have no rattles. Although the wind rumbles over 55mph with the windows down more than 1/4 which can be annoying so i just open the roof. ive read wind deflectors can help a little.
ROW (Rest Of World) spec. Tiguans have a center speaker (Dynaudio System) or a cubby with a lid on lower spec. models. For some reason they just put a cheap cubby hole for US models.
Here in Australia i purchased the 2018, 162 tsi highline for my wife. Has the same motor as the Golf GTI. Also has the same 0-60 (or 0-100klm hour) of 6.5 seconds as the Golf. It's heavier than the golf, but does the same time as the Golf because it's all wheel drive. Shocked this model is so slow...
@@RaitisRides Thanks mate. Been a fan for a while now. Love the informed detail you go into with the reviews. It's detail, mixed with your own personal feel of the car. Dig it brother.
they had big discounts on the r line black a few months ago. i test drove the tiguan, i like the interior a lot, the r line exterior is cool, but this thing is just a pig to drive. way underpowered and i hate start stop assist.
I just watched Motorweek and they reviewed the Tiguan R Line AWD and it didn’t have the third row. I guess it’s optional or depends on what model you get.
Steve Xia I drove the CX-5 first and drove it multiple times. I liked it. But then I drove to the VW Dealer and got inside and fell in love. The seats are wonderful and the infotainment screen and functionality is so much easier and clear to use. The 3rd row is great In a pinch. The VW warranty is 6year / 72k miles, it’s so smooth. Cargo capacity is large. The leatherette and heated seats are great! There are small touches like a CD Player In the glovebox! The bottle holders in the doors are so huge and accommodate large bottles and several of them at the same time. And they are lined with felt so the contents of the pockets don’t make noise. I have no regrets. I traded in a Mazda actually and it was good but the VW feels great.
Scott Thompson lol have you driven it? I bought one and everyone I let drive it says it has enough power. Not tons but it’s peppy. Rav-4 and others feel slower
Striker 50 2 seconds is nothing - we get to the stop light at the same time or Tiguan does first because Tiguan pours on tons of torque while the CR-V poops out. Plus the turbo in the CR-V is having problems but the oil/gas dilution issues that Honda can’t find a fix for. Everyone is relaxing their naturally aspirated engine is the way to go.
At stadium Toyota O found a 2019 Tacoma for $34k msrp. If I can get it for $28-29k then I’ll get it. It’s got push start, blind spot monitoring and it’s the magnetic color I’d want. It’s at stadium Toyota in Tampa.
Only if the sel premium r line came with the 268hp Arteon engine! Then it would be worth getting. But to pay the premium price over the base with the same sluggish engine is crazy.
Oh! But i watched a video where Tiguan used in outdoor and twisted off road and checked all doors if any evident of twisted body shell.. Tiguan failed! Hahaha! The most expensive is just a show off thing.. i still love japanese cars!
Edward Reyez they don’t need to pound them on off roading. Another review I just watched did the off road stuff and the Tiguan was rated #1 out of all the crossovers taken on the trails. There were like 10 competitors. I Believe it was straight pipes that did the testing. I guess everyone comes away with a different experience.
It's almost like VW doesn't want people to buy it. Halogen reflector housing?? Really?? A Honda CR-V, which has a 1.5T is almost 2 SECONDS FASTER 0-60. Not to mention the CR-V gets wayyy better MPG.
I've said it before and will say it again. The 184 HP engine is the reason I did not buy the Tiguan. Once VW wakes up, and offers the vehicle with 250-275 HP I will be the first in line to buy one.
Nice review! But in my opinion seems like all these car manufacturers are playing it safe with the engines. Car looks great but I don’t see how this is different or better than any other SUV in its class!
Oh goodness it is better in so many ways!! I drove them all for months to fall in love and I couldn’t and then dad says go drive the VW. I went and didn’t expect to like it at all and I got inside and fell in love with the seats and quality feel of steering wheel and 8” glass infotainment. It drove so smooth and quiet and I bought it! I have no regrets and enjoy every time I get in.
New Mazda CX-5 has 250bhp and huge torque down Low and doesn’t have the digital dash which is a good thing. Gloss black on front bumper will not hold ip well over time. Shame cause this a great looking car.
Aways real with your content and car presentations man! Now that's something odd. Here in Brazil the Tiguan R line is fitted with the same 2.0 TSI engine but it makes 230hp with the 7-speed dry DSG and full led head and tailights and the same steering with of the GTI and auto diming mirros as well.
The Tiguan weighs more and is slower than the old Tiguan. The R Line costs more in both versions but you don't get more horsepower or torque for the extra money. They should've made them all diesel at least you'd get more torque.
Big zonk. Weak 185hp engine, huge $35,000 price tag, fake vents, fake exhausts, cramped interior, cramped seats, and worst of all: a German VW Made in Mexico. Thanks for the informative review Joe!
Why is it that the Tiguan R only gets aesthetic additions/mods, unlike other R line models (eg: Golf R), that get perfomance and suspension / handling upgrades? If they also got those upgrades, may be I'd be looking to buy onr, but to slap the R badge on the tiguan and only make it look 'better' than the non R tiguans is a complete wank.

I stopped watching when you said 35k. Not interested. VW needs to stop offering that sluggish 2.0 for 30k+. They missed their mark with the new line of vehicles. Why not put the Passat GT engine on all the R-Lines
I’m not asking for the world, 220hp in an R line. Volkswagen is SOOOOOOOO AFRAID of performance in the us. I like the Atlas Cross Sport, but there again 0-60 in like 9.5 seconds, at least that’s what I have seen so far.
The 2018 Tiquan Limited (old style) had the 2.0T from the MK6 GTI. Had 200 HP and 208 TQ. Had enough power for the SUV. This new model just seems slow.
U know what Joe I'm a little on the iffy side of things but the Tiguan is reasonable for a person who's quite the grocery getter and the family on the weekend type person u know.

Good review but a couple things the reviewer said the car doesn't have...but does:
We're all tall with rock solid bodies so the arm rest is just perfect for us!
It's all show no go. Not worth $35k. It's a shame as it's such a handsome SUV. Needs more power , as it should at least have a trim version to match Mazda's CX5 top of the line turbo charged engine.
Definitely
Exactly.
@@AlexOnBass Yep
j cortes I just bought one and everyone that has driven it says it’s a peppy 4-banger and faster than they expected.
10 sec of 0 to 60 is not peppy
The top model has the nav map in the Speedo area like the Audi. I agree it needs more power. For the money I like the the Hyundai Santa Fe better loaded with dealer discount the price was 33000 list was close to 38000
This one does as well. paid 32k for it.
Thanks for sharing those great points based off of your ownership experience!
Really weird how it doesn't have an R-line emblem on that tiguan. I've seen a couple around town that had the emblem on the rear
Congrats on your new Tiguan! Thanks for sharing that great input.
FooStacker Wilson I also bought one and I love it and I throw car wash tokens in the cubby
How can I fold my mirrors please help someone I have a 2019 Tiguan sel Rline
There’s no need for memory seating positions when you can program each key fob to a specific driver
Can you take the third row out?

Joe. Just bought a SEL PREMIUM Tiguan. Love it. Because of you. Great SUV. But I Agree. Needs just a little more HP but it is good
Congrats David! I am so glad that I could share it with you!
Great video:-):-) you have great car review you aee on your way. Lookiing for this to buy. This suv is better than rav 4 or crv. German car alway seem to feel more solid all around, weather is chassis or steering feel. Do you know if this suv is reliable?? Thanks
Thanks Michael! I really appreciate your support! I would say yes it is reliable.
Michael Lui I love mine/ its a 2019 SE and I have put 7,200 miles on it. Flawless & reliable. I chose it over the CR-V and Rav-4
Joshua Rutter thank you:-):-)
Michael Lui you are welcome. Feel free to ask me any questions! 👍🏻
All I know is that as much as I love the physical part of this car, it's soooo under powered!
America is not the world
Yeah I have to drive mine in sport mode in traffic lol
I have a ‘19 SEL Premium 4Motion and I have an auto dimming mirror and memory seats. Did they remove those with the mid year refresh? Mine has the “older” more round digital cluster as well. But, I’d gladly keep it for my mirror and memory seats.
Thanks for watching! I really appreciate your input and perspective!
The R-Line package is different
Great video believe it or not there is a reason the exhaust are fake. Manufactures hide the tips so that carbon deposits don’t build up on the bumper/paint. This allows cars to be cleaned easier and protects the paint from being stained
I think that is ridiculous. People can't just wash their cars?
Love this car... and 184hp saving me from getting speeding tickets
Hi Hardik, I'm looking at getting a 2019 Tiguan Rline. Do you find it to have enough horsepower?
You guys never say room for golf clubs in the rear. Why is that?
That is a great question!

@@2004cyrus It's nearly 2 seconds slower 0-60 than a Honda CR-V which has a 1.5T and gets wayyyy better MPG.
