Now watching season 3, I've realized one thing, Georgiou always saves everyone... literally all the fight scenes she's in, she kicks ass of her opponents then rushes on to kick the ass of the other peoples opponents... if it weren't for her, Lorca would have gone with them to the future. She kicked his ass TWICE...
My biggest problem with the end of Season 1 and most of Season 2 was that he wasn't Captain of Discovery, only an Acting Captain. This entire Mirror Universe arc he stepped up and proved he deserved that center seat.
I'll be so happy when Burnham dies, that will be the day I celebrate. I'll also be throwing a party when this show finally stops getting funding ;) CBS can pull the plug anyday now!
A pity at that point he didn't know in the Mirror Universe his race serves as a 23th Century counterpart of sushi, that would add more depth to his shout.
Yea i wished he became the official new Captain of the Discovery when the season ended. Would have been well deserved. Oh well. The writers properly had a good reason i suppose..
There was so much potential wasted with Lorca. They just turned him into a regular bad buy and killed him in the same episode. He could have been a rebel who wanted to end the empire to liberate the aliens. This would leave Discovery with a moral dilemma to who they should support.
Turning him into a generic Jillian just because he was Terran was a huge mistake. They could have had him be like you said a rebel sympathiser. Rather than have him die trying to kill Burnham, he could have gave his life turning off the flagships shields so that Discovery could destroy it and escape home. He'd give his life for the Federation. The crew could have then kept his true identity a secret and informed Cornwell that he gave his life for his crew.
Bro I watched all of Picard in the last month or two and I don't think I saw even a single two-handed punch... What happened? That was like the TNG fight scene signature move
DAY-U-U-U-M!!! Badass just badass!!! Finally get to see some of what Yeoh was hired for; I was stunned when they originally killed her off this is a fantastic twist of fate in the plot line the later surprise(s) even better.
I always though Lorca should have stayed and been a long term captain of discovery. He was a complex character but I always felt he was doing things for the greater good but just had to get a little dirtier each time. The show should have played off that and be initially about Micheál learning how to be a good starfleet officer and then the crew keeping the captain focused and on track during the difficult war.
I just began watching Discovery, finally, after being too hooked on SNW (I admit, I listened too much to the bad opinions of the show). I love it and since I came in knowing a lot of spoilers, I just so wish Lorca wasn't so preoccupied with his returning to his own universe. He would have made such a fine Starfleet Captain long-term. I'm totally obsessed with his leadership style and everything, and that's coming from me who is also totally obsessed with boy scout Pike.
Jason Isaacs said that Michelle was so fast he couldn't keep up. she had to slow much down so he could keep the choreography going smoothly. he said her kicks were incredible and that she was brilliant!!!
0:58 The Mirror Universe way of saying "you are in my way" to allies. A luck they never figured out that you can have a energy pulse over-penetrate, rather then vaprozie the first target! I guess they had to choose between "torture" and "penetrating pulse" settings, and choose the former.
Yep and Sisko kicking Jem' Hadar asses. DS9 is still way better than this in every conceivable way, especially storyline, character development, ship and costume design.
Am I the only one that noticed that Michael faced the phaser pistol she grabbed at 2:40 in the wrong direction? You can only see that for a few frames.
I think on of the books says that Non Mirror (I hesitate to say Prime) Lorca is still alive. Hopefully this means he could return to the show in the future. It’d be interesting to see how different or similar Lorca is to his Mirror counterpart.
I just finished rewatching this episode and have come to the following conclusion: Starfleet needs its head examined for not making Saru's Captaincy permanent. I know that his people got the reputation for cowardice from their evolution from a prey species. However, I didn't see a coward here. I saw a Starship Captain getting the job done.
Alex García Moreno I bet in the real universe he is still alive and comes on board as captain after they fix the timeline or after they reconnect with the Federation
I don't think Lorca is gone for good. The manner of his death... the core of pure mycelium energy. I think he's somewhere out there in the mycelium network. Maybe even with his sword wound healed.
i agree. It doesn't look like he is dying or experiencing pain (except for the would-be fatal stab wound) and his scream seams to echo off into the distance rather than ending. This is what sounds like a tie fighter. The last words of burnham to him need to be resolved. His character can still be redeemed.
I can't help but think the producers took Michelle aside and quietly whispered "Go easy on him, please..." He's _so_ following her lead here. It even shows in the rehearsal footage. She rocks.
2 of the people fighting Burnham are killed in row by idiotic friendly fire. The ponytail chick shoots her own soldier point blank while Burnham and him are barely moving, and then the ponytail chick gets drunkenly slashed in the back by her boss for some reason. I wonder if in the mirror universe, Lorca is supposed to be Emperor Archer's bastard descendant and the entire lineage of Emperors are decended from Empress Hoshi
I'm kind of hoping Discovery beamed him back on board. I know its unlikely but, he's pretty well the best Character on the show. Now we just have Mikey Spock and The Shroom Head and Saru.
Chewy, here's to hope. Ironically, I also Think he'd make a better Emperor that Girogo. He may be harsh and manipulative, but he does see the big picture and does have the capacity to actually care about those under him. He even inspired Loyalty in his Crew in the Mirror Universe without just relying on Brute Force. For the culture he's from, he's actually quiet a good man.
+SK Wills Yeah. After watching promo for episode 13 I thought he'll become an emperor. Even if he's not back on Discovery at least he'll get what he wants. But making the guy who was one of two main characters on the show, a character who lots of people liked much more than Michael an ordinary villain and killing him as an ordinary villain was a bad move.
I suspect its because of the same writers flaw as The Last Jedi. They have embraced Feminist Ideology and assume the Audience has, too. Lorca was a White Man. The only thing better would be if he were Christian, but they nixed tat idea. The women of the show have to come out on top, and we are supposed to root for them and Think they are better simply based n them being Women. I feel that once again Burnham shows she's not federation material by choosing the side with the EMPEROR OF THE TERRAN EMPIRE. Yes Lorca was manipulating events to return to the mirror universe but there where plenty of times where he was not a bad guy. He chose to try and save Federation ships when possible, same with federation colonies. He showed considerable restraint while members of the discovery were aboard the klingon flagship. Yes Burnham was one of those aboard but it's still more restraint and compassion for the well being of others than most members of the Terran Empire are known for. Even when he's revealed, he tried hard not to let Burnham or Discovery come to harm during the coup. In the end I find it sad that his story had to end this way.
I agree with you up to a point. He was absolutely willing to destroy Discovery once its usefulness subsided. He made that clear in the transmission to Saru. He would have destroyed Discovery had Burnham not stayed behind.
That, I feel, is because the writers botched up an opportunity for a serious character development arc for one of the few characters in this show that had potential, in favor of a 'villain of the week'. But that's my opinion of the matter. There is of course the possibility that he's not dead since his 'disintegration could have easily been his being absorbed into the Terran's version of the spore network. If the writers have any imagination at all, we may see Lorca again. I just feel he has so much potential for growth as a character to be more than he is. Unlike Burnham who betrayed her captain and then sided with the 'Space Nazi' version of that same captain.
it is simple really Burham chose the "lesser of the two evils" and the lesser of the two evils is the Empress and she chose to help the empress. Lorca made it quite clear that the Discovery was no longer useful and he was going to destroy it and everyone on it. Lorca also made a speech on what he was going to do when the empress did neither.
Nah, none of all that matter. The writer wanted a twist and turned him into a straight up bad guy. One that literally paraphrases Trump: "We will make our Empire glorious again!". And of course our main character sides with a genocidal tyrant who in an episode prior killed the MU version of her surrogate father Sarek. Because... oh well.
Telmo Amaro never understood that to maintain a dictator who go against everything that the federation go, Lorca never discriminated against his alien staff, eated aliens or even made anything against his subordinates, I'm really impressed about how many joined his rebellion.
Based on this, I'm going to say that Lorca is _not_ dead. He was absorbed into the mycellium network, and once he pulls himself together he will be back.
This episode almost made up for the last 12, it was excellent. The space battles on this show suck, but the fight sequences and choreographed combat are the most amazing I have seen in Star Trek and are up there with a feature film.
I have to agree. I love Discovery, but the space battle VFX are just...wrong? jarring? badly formatted? I dunno, I mean I like them better than NO space battles, but I honestly think they need to fire their VFX company and go with another one that has better composition and is able to milk each shot for all it's worth. Physical combat though is great!
Fauxbro1983, did Kirk sit down for tea with the Gorn? Friendly chats with Klingons? Tender, civil exchanges with mirror universe selves? Trek has always had fistacuffs, along with healthy doses of higher morality and civilized behavior.
@ASMR Muzz The ships look like game mods. They are well textured but look angular and unfinished, also their hulls have an unaesthetic pewter sheen and not trek's aztec patters with subtle shimmers. The result is irridescent-looking ships that film oddly and streak across the screen without being all that clearly visible.
4 potential ways of Lorca coming back... 1) Mirror Lorca didn't die but rather entered the mycelial network and is somehow healed by its mushroomness 2) Prime Lorca didn't die (we've had no on screen confirmation either way) 3) They go back in time and prevent the war from happening and so Prime Lorca is kicking about 4) They go back in time and mirror Lorca transfers across as before but into a totally new situation All four of these can occur simultaneously. Please for the love of fuck bring him back somehow!
I know... but at least there are some viable avenues for to come back even for one or two episodes. I really hope he does as he was by far my favourite character on the show.
I know... but at least there are some viable avenues for to come back even for one or two episodes. I really hope he does as he was by far my favourite character on the show.
ennan hamill this what i think would be a good idea: when the discovery meets with the enterprise. The real Lorca is on the enterprise with captain pike
Gabriel Lorca was my favorite character since I saw him in episode 3. I was hoping so much that all these MU presumptions are false and now he's dead. Previously I couldn't wait for the next episode to come out, now I just don't care what's next. No characters left for me to care for.
Funny how the Mirror Yeoh can bust out more moves than the original Yeoh. back in ep1 I thought, why hire Michelle if your going to throttle down her fight scenes? It's just a shame the fighting ability isn't consistent between the two of them.
Whereas the prime universe Yeoh was the typical Starfleet Captain who while trained in combat was more of an explorer than a warrior. But even with the extreme differences, you could see the similarities.
FYI, the Tie-Fighter sound is actually a scream from an animal and has been used in many science fiction films like 'The Phantom Planet' from 1961. I don't know why it's used here since Lorca's brief scream is fine enough, but it's still technically a scream.
I'm starting to think that this isn't the only time we hear tie fighter sounds in Star Trek Discovery. Every sound of engine acceleration, or hull strain may actually be modified from the sound of a Star Wars Tie Fighter.
they mentioned that mirror Lorca took his place during a transport, so the assumption is, that they were transporting at the same time in both universes, and ended up in eachothers' (hence the confidence of everyone in the mirror universe why Lorca is dead, because an actual Lorca died)
I never noticed when I watched this the first time that when Discovery fires its phaser you see the resultant impact on the interior of the ship. They sure did spend a hell of a lot of money on the first season lol!
3:39 his death sounds like a TIE Fighter :))))))
lmao, it literally sounds like they just dropped in a TIE sound effect
what is an imperial ship without a Tie figher?
DarkusMaster I was thinking the same thing lmao!

Loved Jason Issacs as Lorca, the antagonists in this series were just brilliant.
Apparently all throughout filming this scene, Jason Isaacs kept begging Yeoh to slow down because he couldn't keep up with her and he felt like a "drunken hippo". XD
I’d think the hardest part of filming this fight was making it look like Jason Isaacs could take on Michelle Yeoh 💜

Wow, it's been 5 years already?
Lorca will return. He became part of the spores as he died. Mark my words.
Tavington.
Damn him, damn that man!
but I love captain Lorca..... best character on the show
We probably have not seen the last of Lorca (the good, or the bad version)
But now we have a new Captain Georgiou that will be amazing
Telmo Amaro never understood that to maintain a dictator who go against everything that the federation go, Lorca never discriminated against his alien staff, eated aliens or even made anything against his subordinates, I'm really impressed about how many joined his rebellion.
Based on this, I'm going to say that Lorca is _not_ dead. He was absorbed into the mycellium network, and once he pulls himself together he will be back.
Apparently Lorca was a human Tie Fighter. Listen to the sound effect as he dies
2:21 when he’s fighting and he said stop when I said it to my uncle and he said “yea” he keeps playing around 😂
Can u post the scene when Michael Save Philippa?
Damn it, i didnt know legs could move like that, seems that what you get when youre a hong kong movie star.
I do love the music in this scene.
When I think of star trek the first thing that comes to mind is hand to hand combat....
Yeah, Star Trek is Star Wars now, and Star Wars is Harry Potter now. It sucks.
LORCAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!
Pressing "F" to pay my respect.
4 potential ways of Lorca coming back...
1) Mirror Lorca didn't die but rather entered the mycelial network and is somehow healed by its mushroomness
2) Prime Lorca didn't die (we've had no on screen confirmation either way)
3) They go back in time and prevent the war from happening and so Prime Lorca is kicking about
4) They go back in time and mirror Lorca transfers across as before but into a totally new situation
All four of these can occur simultaneously. Please for the love of fuck bring him back somehow!
+ennan hamill very unlikely, not impossible as he was only signed up for 1 season but noone knows what the future beholds :D
I know... but at least there are some viable avenues for to come back even for one or two episodes.

Yup. I'm pretty much the same way.
I sincerely hope they do find a way to bring him back.
Hopefully, Starfleet Lorca is somewhere -- also having performed a miraculous escape/resurrection somehow.
I'm glad he's dead the dude didn't give a shit about anyone he even said it on live interview this show is about to get alot better
This was effectively Jason Isaac's last appearance? Are we sure about this?
Lol, at 2:40 for a split second she’s holding the phaser backwards.
The other mirror version of Gabriel Lorca could still be alive right? Hopefully he's somewhat similar to the terran version
if the other Lorca is a Panzy they kill the character
On this show, unless you see a body, they can't be regarded as dead (and even then that's not the case).
MasterRobinHood more than likely yes that's usually how these things work script wise
Looks like the "good" Lorca and "evil" Burnham are still at large somewhere.
Funny how the Mirror Yeoh can bust out more moves than the original Yeoh. back in ep1 I thought, why hire Michelle if your going to throttle down her fight scenes? It's just a shame the fighting ability isn't consistent between the two of them.
because mirror yeoh is a paranoid emperor skilled in hand to hand combat needed to fend off any wouldbe pretender to her throne
Whereas the prime universe Yeoh was the typical Starfleet Captain who while trained in combat was more of an explorer than a warrior. But even with the extreme differences, you could see the similarities.
2:39 to 2:40 mark. Watch closely! When Burnham picks up her phaser, it is pointed at herself. Before she's holding it correctly in the next shot.
When Lorca was falling into the mushroom sun I was like “HOW MUCH YOUR EYES HURT NOW?!”
Bring back Lorca!
Just watch star trek Discovery and seeing lorca character just being killed away just like that just break my heart. Daymm
FYI, the Tie-Fighter sound is actually a scream from an animal and has been used in many science fiction films like 'The Phantom Planet' from 1961.
I don't know why it's used here since Lorca's brief scream is fine enough, but it's still technically a scream.
Would love to somehow see Ming-Na Wen vs Michelle Yeoh.
Either against each other or, teamed up.
Would be unstoppable.
is it bad that i actually liked him as a captain?
why dose he sound like a tie fighter when he falls into the core?
Does anyone know what the music for this fight is called ?
3:23 3:24 he looks normal but he’s not 3:27
one thing about they fight better on discovery than the other series of star trek.
I'm starting to think that this isn't the only time we hear tie fighter sounds in Star Trek Discovery.
Every sound of engine acceleration, or hull strain may actually be modified from the sound of a Star Wars Tie Fighter.
Like the way he said "fire!" at 0.07
This show looks good man, i just wish it wasn't a prequel, let's go forward
So where is Prime Universe Lorca or is he dead too?
they mentioned that mirror Lorca took his place during a transport, so the assumption is, that they were transporting at the same time in both universes, and ended up in eachothers' (hence the confidence of everyone in the mirror universe why Lorca is dead, because an actual Lorca died)
he only sign up for one season I don't think you going to see him again.
Sophia Wilson Jason Isaacs said he would return, so hopefully he does.
Say what you want about this show but they do pretty awesome fight scenes.
Discovery should have been set entirely within the mirror universe. Michelle was brilliant as the emporer.
OMG The battle music is great. Klingon-Terran twist.
This was OK but did they REALLY have to add a literal trapdoor in case they wanted to write Terran Lorca back in?
I never noticed when I watched this the first time that when Discovery fires its phaser you see the resultant impact on the interior of the ship.
They sure did spend a hell of a lot of money on the first season lol!
"You're not that kind of guy"......... "I am that kind of guy"
Lorca needs to come back
They kept the fight scenes from TOS definitely. Except, they are fighting lizards in rubber suits.
What's with the TIE Fighter sound?
Why the Tie Fighter Sound effect?????
