Biography of Haile Gebrselassie, one the most decorated long-distance and road running athletes

Over the years, Ethiopia has been a leading nation when it comes to the Marathon race. The country is blessed with great long-distance runners who are record breakers and as well makers.Today, our historical crystal ball centers on the life of one the most decorated long-distance and road running athlete who has broken 61 different Ethiopian national records, set 27 new world records and is regarded as one the greatest distance runners of all time. On the 18th of April 1973, Haile Gebrselassie was born to a struggling family of ten children in Asella, Oromiya region of Ethiopia.
Since challenges in life is usually to prepare us for the future, history was already waiting ahead of him to be made, as he was known to always run a 10 kilometer distance to school every morning and the same every evening…which makes 20 kilometers daily for 5 days in a week in nothing less than 8 months of school activities in a year. A quick math reveals this young lad does nothing less than 400 kilometers per month and 3200 kilometers in 8 months. Wow! These facts were evident on his unique running posture, showing his left arm always curved as if it was still holding his school books.
