    My Mom made these for us ever weekend to have as a snack after school was out. Only 2 per kid lol that was 10 We never used nutmeg or evaporated milk. Mom used extra vanilla and whole milk.

      Same! Sometimes she would switch with lemon extract. We were too poor for nutmeg. Just the basics and sooo delicious 😋

    Thank you so very much for this video. It reminded me of my childhood growing up with my mom baking these tea cakes and I remember they were so thick and delicious. I would get so excited watching her bake.❤

    "I'm gonna rate these a shimmy!" I love it! Thank you for sharing your recipe. I'm so excited to try these TONIGHT! (I will be late for work if I get in the kitchen right now...like I want to!) Tonight, my friend is Teacake Thursday!

    Love your presentation. I'm excited to make these this weekend. I believe these is what my grandma and aunt made for us cousins in the '50s. And I agree about whole nutmeg, the flavor is so much richer when freshly grated.

    Love your family recipe! Actually, being a soft dough, I'm thinking piping bag with star tip, or cookies press!

    Looking good! I’m so used to seeing and trying out the other tea cake recipes that are in cookie form and many claim to be old fashion recipes! But you seem to have the original tea cake recipe which actually live up to its name! Think I’ll try it! Thank you!

    Those look absolutely delicious! You and your sister in the background is so funny!🤣 when I was a youngster in Arkansas my grandmother used to make tea cakes they were some of the biggest tea cakes and were very delicious, she use a large cookie sheet, be blessed and I hope y’all have a great holiday season! From the Windy City Chicago.😄✌🏾🙏🏾
    P.S and you are right, they are a tea cake not a cookie! They are in between a cookie and a cake when you want something sweet but not bake a whole cake.😄

    Finally! How my
    Grandmother did it! Except everything was by hand. We were very poor so no hand mixer, and no actual measuring cups. Just a tea cup and instinct to measure..🥲
    Thank you for this

    In my opinion nutmeg doesn’t overpower flavor easily so I’d cut the nutmeg by 2/3rds, but that’s my taste buds.

    • @nadurkee46
      @nadurkee46 Рік тому

      Correction nutmeg DOES INDEED OVERPOWER TASTE. CUT THAT NUTMEG DOWN TO 1/3 the amount called for.
