That's one of my favorite foods my grand ma made too. Nothing like them. Hers was huge, and w/o a specific shape. That's what I liked most I think. The size and the uniformity of shape.
I just love this recipe. It came up on my suggested and I tried it out. Perfect for afternoon tea or just to snack on. I tried them with a spot of cinnamon, and made a batch with nutmeg, and also tried with just a sprinkling of sugar prior to baking. Excellent all ways but you were right, I prefer them plain! I hope to share this with my friends and family more next time I have them over. Thank you for such a delightful recipe! Add dry ingredients and milk and mix well. If you dough is too sticky you may add more flour a little at a time. The recipe call for 4 cups of flour a lot of people said they did not hear that in the video. Hope this helps. Thanks for your comment ❤️
Oh God, what memories. My grandmother always kept hers in a bowl and covered with a tea towel. She always made sure that she kept them on hand. When we went over for visits we would run straight to the cupboard and took a couple to eat. What memories! Now I have to figure out how to print the recipe! Love the channel you didnt mention flour measurements. From the looks of your cup im gonna guess 2 cups of flour if it doesnt work then ill call my Dad thats who made them for me and my 6 brothers
@@lourvt1 Yes I tried self rising and that small batch turned out like butter cookies. Was ok but I wanted the taste of the old fashioned tea cake for a cup of coffee. Ty got it right I sifted my all purpose flour. Added 1 tsp of nutmeg was a little strong.
My mother use to make them. Your recipe is the only one I seen on UA-cam that’s the same as my mother’s recipe. In addition, I see you don’t use nutmeg in your recipe, my mother didn’t use it in her recipe either. My mother was from the South Carolina area.
You are the only other one that I know that uses WATKINS!! I absolutely love WATKINS VANILLA AND THE SPICES! The nutmeg smells heavenly as well. You can taste the difference in using Watkins products trust me!

WE LOVED THE ROLLED OUT DOUGH BUT SHE TRIED TO DISCOURAGE US FROM EATING IT BY TELLING US WE WOULD GET WORMS IF WE ATE RAW FOUGH.

Mine was like that also. I placed on floured board and Kneaded the dough. I was able to roll out cookies after I kneaded the dough.
