The Legendary Ferrari Police Car
Вставка

- This true story follows the unlikely pairing of Rome's top officer and a Ferrari 250 GT/E, as they tackle the criminal underbelly in the heart of Italy. Armando Spatafora's heroics generated a lot of headlines in this period and even inspired the movie Poliziotto Sprint/Highway Racer. Different people tell different versions of the Lynx's legacy, but I tried to focus on the core narrative without mentioning every single variation. For example, some say the Ferraris were actually a gift from the President to the police, a reward for doing such a great job. Anyways, I hope you enjoy my take on Spatafora's incredible escapades!

NO WAY. The clip of the Alfa 2600 Sprint that you used is my dads tarmac rally car!!!! 2.6L in-line 6 with triple Weber side draft carburettors if you’re interested. I love this channel and it’s amazing to be enjoying your latest video and suddenly a car that is such a big part of my life is in it!!!!

If you’d like to hear it sing, here it is
That's rad!
thats awesome. i always like alfas
Tell your dad I adore him and that hes a actual hero. what a legend of a man. Simply Beautiful
Sounds awesome!
Italy in 2022: "DON'T SIT ON THE STEPS!"
Italy in 1977: "What if we filmed a car flipping down the Spanish Steps?"
Italy isn't herself anymore...
"nononoo, those are the _spanish_ steps, it is fine"
When on a school trip in italy i managed to convince the teachers to let me and 4 mates go to the police car museum not far from rome on our own. This car was supposed to be there but on this occasion it wasnt, it was at some event. But still we saw lots of fine unique italian police cars like various lancia's and even a detomaso. Core memory.
Amazing Stijn! Could you tell this fellow Belgian/Dutch speaking man what it's called?
(Ik ben Nederlands)
@@CLOYO Museo delle Auto della Polizia di Stato. Als je "police car museum rome" googled kom je er direct wel op uit. Zeker een bezoek waard als je ooit in de buurt bent
@@CLOYO Hi, here's a sneak peek at the museum and some of the history regarding the vehicles ua-cam.com/video/oMjsr9bTqvk/v-deo.html there are English subs
You should do a story about the Whittington Brothers and their 935 K3s. How they smuggled drugs on the back straight at Road Atlanta. Crazy stuff. Needs to be a movie about their lives
Yep! Two drug traffickers who won Le Mans ahead of actor Paul Newman in what must be one of the weirdest podiums in the race's history. Also kinda once used illegal NOS on a racecar.
Another suggestion if he sees this (or anyone else), Helge Meyer and the Ghost Camaro. Just look it up, it's wild!
please give us this omg
I would love to know more about that.

A new Hunter’s moon video? My chores can wait.
Personally, I put it on while I’m completing my chores. I’m actually doing that right now.
these historic episodes are so informative and entertaining its hard to not binge watch them..
@Hunter's Moon
In Italy, the most sought-after second-hand cars are those from the Polizia, Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza forces, since they're unassuming and tuned beyond your wildest dreams. Just imagine Midnight-tier cars made starting from economic FIATs and Alfa Romeos. These kind of tuning works are made internally by local Police/Carabinieri/GdF workshops, with the most famed ones being the ones in Milan, Naples, Latina - Borgo Podgora and Palermo.
Also, every policing force in Italy has a nickname for their cars: Polizia has "Pantera" (Panther), Carabinieri "Gazzella" (Gazelle), Guardia di Finanza has "Grifone" (Griffon, from the coat of arms of their Force). Just for completeness :)
That actually sounds amazing
Are there any examples of the modifications done to these cars? Curious to see
@@niichuuko1095 None actually, the story of the modified police cars is actually an urban legend. Their cars were and are still just standard vehicles with the most powerful engine produced by the maker mounted on.
@@thecommentaryking Come and tell that to the Carabinieri... I've lived with them for 27 years.
@@gabem.5242 Dubito visto che l'informazione è ufficiale
The level of detail on the investigation, narration, storytelling, video editing, sound editing.. everything is spot on.. just keep e'm coming!
Oh I can't believe ❤
You actually made video after my suggestion 🤩
I'm honoured sir 🥃🎩🏁
It was a great suggestion! Thanks again!
@@HuntersMoon my pleasure.
You even named me, you made me eternal 😀
You are seriously the best channel I can think of. Great amount of research that go into your videos. There is just one massive low side of the channel. That the videos don't come often enough.
It's an extremely empty and long month.
But we understand, good things need its time and there are different things you need to do besides. Life.
Thanks again for your hard work.
Just a question, what are the chances of covering lives of the Japanese street racing legends like Keichi Tsuchiya, Amemiya san, Kobayashi of MCR, Smokey Nagata and similar characters.
And I would mostly like to know more about their life before the fame.
Not pressuring you, just wondering if you are planning to dedicate your time to them. As I know you like the Japanese car culture.
But anything you come up with is of high value.
Also the lads are making some great suggestions. Future is bright.
I'll just say that the 458 used by Czech police was seized and after years of sitting was made into a police car. It should be used mainly at big car meets. Lots of people are angry that they did this instead of selling it so "state can use the money for something else" like they could afford it. I'm still hoping to see it next year somewhere.
Very interesting story!
You should look into group sigma (omada sigma). It was an anti street racing task force in greece in the 80s/90s, they apperently used confiscated sports cars as police cars, but kinda started doing shady street racing stuff themselves.
That sounds cool!
Vauxhall Lotus Carlton. Registration plate 40RA. Would make an interesting addition to your series.
This!!
God! imagine a V12 Ferrari on full attack, all cylinders vialing, that's the dream man especially these classic Ferraris with the columbo engine. What a great story thanks hunters moon I always look forward to your videos. Make more man. Great job.
Hunter!!! You truly have a gift for telling car stories! Almost all the stories you tell talk about how cars are more than a piece of metal and can become actual icons of moral values! You have taste for choosing and curating such stories, keep up with the amazing work!
Enjoyable video, as always. Being Italian, I wish the Ferrari could be purchased by the state and preserved in Rome's museum of police vehicles for everyone to see, rather than disappear in a private collector's garage. Anyways, I'm glad the car is still around at all, given its adventurous life!
🎯
Having visited the museum in Rome, I heard his story in 2018. It was supposed to be there but unfortunately wasn't, still wasn't there when I visited in 2022. I really enjoy your videos and I was waiting for somebody to make a video about this topic. Shame to hear Spatafora has passed on.
Hey man, great videos. Maybe you could talk about "le prince noir" who rode Paris's ring road in 1988 on a black GSX-R 1100. Never got caught. You could do a Paris combo and also talk about "C'était un rendez-vous" by Claude Lelouch.
Now this, I would LOOOVE to see.
That sounds incredible! This guy? ua-cam.com/video/SXrYLxU1cMU/v-deo.html
amazing video... here in Brazil the police forces used the same strategy with a cara named "uirapuru gavião" you should take a look.
Those are super interesting looking! Thanks for sharing!
@@HuntersMoon I'm intrigued too 🎩🥃
Not italian, but over here in the US my dad helped build a Lotus Esprit police car to raise money for an officer who was killed around Detroit. He taught offensive driving courses to some of the agencies, and when the Lotus was built he would take people for rides to raise the money. Theres a pic of it online somewhere, silver and blue...
Man whatever it is you do, don’t stop this channel. I’ve never binged watched a whole channel before. Great piece of video essay!!!!
Always a great morning to wake up to a well-told story
Keep up the fantastic work!

Incredible story and really nicely delivered. I haven't heard these tales before and it's just a delight. Thanks mate.
Dude you are the summoning salt of cars I legit wait around for your videos like a kid for his favorite cartoon
Hey Hunter, can you make a video about the Greek police team called Sigma Squad?
They chased down street racers and the tickets they got from them were kept as trophies
I didn't knew this one, but it won my heart. You man do a great job researching and telling this tales.
Now, if possible... you could do a video about the japanese Mustang Mach 1 cop car? I'd love to hear how the heck that happened...
Awesome video! Thank you for making it!
Say What😲😲. There's is a mustang cop car in japan i have never heard this story can you find proof of it. P.S. thank you hunter's moon for video as this wild and insane story that only grandfather could tell to grandkids anyway thanks and have good day bye now.

Again absolutely awesome documentary. Music, pictures, cuts , commentary. For me on the level of top gear anecdotes. May even higher cuz you do this by yourself. Thanks again for this library.
Scenes from Highway Racer or Polizotto Sprint great stuff!
Great video
Excellent!!!!! More. More!!!
Glad I found this channel starting at the midnight Porsche and the cannonball story was perfectly done.
It amazes me that every country has its cool car related story. I might share one some day if I ever find something interesting locally
great video like always, you should check out the lotus carlton ra40 story, i think it's story would fit this channel very well.
Awesome! Story
Only in Italy...
Great Vídeo, Thank you for this amazing story
whenever you post i get internal happiness
One of the few channels worth a f..k. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Great video, precise and without stereotypes about us, just facts. Congratulations. Just for you all to know, recently a tourist went by error with its car on the edge of the stairs of Piazza di Spagna, the one depicted on the chase, and he was heavily fined. Fact is, during the making of those films about criminals and police which were a hit in Italy in the 70ies, the directors wouldnt ask for permission they would just filming in the streets for real or , like for the stairs, film it very early in the morning and then run so nobody could fine them. So every chase you see in the movie is happening in real time, and this beside other factors is why Tarantino loved so much these movies that for a long while were here in Italy labeled contemptuously B-Movies
great video
Enjoying your content thanks
You KNOW the guy has mob connections when even the criminals respect him and Enzo is willing to just GIVE 250s to the cops.
He didn't have connections to the mob (at the time Rome was still pretty much outside of the mafia's grip). He was just good at his job together with the rest of the unit he was part of
Youre obviously off in Fantasy world, in the early 60s seeing as his road car business was still very much a sideline business to his race team and the fact that a fleet order would be a shot in the arm for business,it is totally conceivable Ferrari would gift 2 road cars to the Italian government/ police unit.
Honesty what you said doesn’t really make sense. The mafia wouldn’t him to have a better vehicle and much less the mafia higher ups probably wouldn’t went their underlings messing with a cop who doesn’t let people escape his grip often. My history is a little fuzzy but I am pretty sure the mafia wasn’t really powerful at this point in time.
Spatafora. My new racing name for forza. Dude was epic. 🍻
ur channel is so valid my guy
Unimaginably, dangerously cool
damn bro, your vids never let down, idea for next vid: Keiichi Tsuchiya
Yeh 😀 I suggested same thing.
And Kobayashi, Amemyia, Taniguchi, Nagata ...
Especially their life before fame.
I absolutely love your videos keep up the good content and here’s a suggestion for a story this is about the Jaguars test driver Norman Dewis he piloted a famous Jaguar E-type that he took from London England to Geneva Switzerland. For the Geneva auto show
Hello! I really loved your Belgrade phantom video, and this one too! I think you should do a video on the ghost camaro.
Wow, just flipping Wow. Thank you so very much.
Bravo! Bello! Andiamo!
What an awesome story about an awesome car and a gritty cop. Now I want to find this flick
Very cool history
Great story.
That moment when both a Squidd and a Hunter's Moon video drop in the same week
Another banger
Very interesting! Never heard of this guy
I do have a suggestion too: The first car that was taken to The Antarctica was a red VW beetle, an story on it would be great I think.
good shit bruv
Such a cool Story!
At 0:47 that white car is a Lancia Flavia pininfarina coupé. I’ve got one here in the states. Such a unique car. Mine had rally history from its life in Italy as well
Armando was basically playing Need for Speed Hot Pursuit in real life three decades before Need for Speed was even a thing.
This is the good stuff
Hey, love your videos, you should do a story about the Bulgarian Ferrari Daytona and the Lamborghini Countach!
He has made one about modified Countach, highly recommended! ALso you cna check hagerty, they have a cool story telling style and have videos on the Countach and the Diablo
Lovely Sunday!
You know, I'm not really a fan of Ferrari. I do get why people like the cars, but it's just not my thing. But man, THIS? This is a cool car. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I *REALLY* like this Ferrari 😆
Dope story. What a career. Driving a 250 as a daily for work.
