  • Leaky roof due to damaged felt under your slate tiles? This informative video guides you through the process of safely removing a slate without causing any cracks. Forget brute force - the key lies in a specialized tool called a "slate ripper." The video demonstrates how to carefully maneuver the ripper under the Spanish slate, hooking the hidden nails, and gently prying them out one by one. Remember, patience and a delicate touch are crucial to avoid damaging the fragile slate. This technique is perfect for various roof repairs, like replacing rotten felt or installing eaves trays to prevent future leaks. So ditch the frustration and learn the proper way to handle your roof slates!

those slates have barely any overhang into the gutter (should be 50mm), bit of wind and you’ve got water running down the wall. the lack of felt overhanging wasn’t helping, but the slates are the main issue. also eves trays go under the felt, not over. your fix will work ok

Hi mate.i did put the trays under the felt.the overhang might not quite be enough but it has worked a treat getting rid of the rotten edge of felt.we get regular extreme high winds up here in winter and its been fine.ive got verges to look at soon as i think that's leaking now lol
      Cheers Buddy

I've been looking for a video that explains how to re-roof a terraced house, that has a slate roof continuous with the houses on either side. A typical Coronation St terraced house. How do you remove and reinstall the slates at the party wall - do you use tingles at the party walls? Or is there a better method?

hi i don't know about the party wall, but i refix with 150mm long stainless steel slate hooks.we get lots of snow up here so a tingle will just get bent flat when the snow slides off. Cheers Peow peow

@@DoItWithPaulie ok cheers, I do prefer the thought of hooks but this is my first time doing a roof so I'm sticking with copper nails for this one. I'm doing an outrigger first, if I find it straightforward enough I'm moving onto the rest of the roof. I guess when I get up there I'll measure the layout exactly and see if I can find some hooks.
      Thanks for the advice.
