The new album I find to be so catchy. There are no mediocre songs on it. Melodies that get inside my head and I’m singing them all day. Every time I listen to it I like it more. Seems to be true to Wingers sound and what I love about the band. There are songs I love on every album!

Seven is definitely an album that has grown and grown for me. A week later and I’m still spinning it a lot. Usually after the first weekend the magic is gone and I don’t return to it for a few weeks/months until it falls into normal rotation. But I love the albums that grow with each listen and I keep them out for weeks or months at the beginning. Winger Seven is one of those IMO.

Winger had a really good song on the 'Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey' soundtrack titled "Battle Stations" -- definitely worth checking out. Hope your shirt is a clue that we're gettin an Enuff Z'Nuff album ranking next -- their discography is a lot bigger than most folks realize. THX, Brendon!

I revisited “Pull” earlier today because Winger will be performing that entire album at ProgPower next year. While I have more nostalgia for “In the Heart of the Young,” I can now say that “Pull” is my overall favorite album by them.

I'm new to Winger! I found them thru a playlist that the Studio Label "Frontiers Music" made on youtube called Melodic Rock 2023, and I was blown away by the song "Proud Desperado"! (I found Frontiers Music thru Revolution Saints, who I in turn found thru another youtuber "The Real Music Observer"), but so far, I have not found anything good from Winger from -before 2006, though I haven't listened to all the classic songs yet, however I can't wait to get my copy of Winger Seven, my first album from Winger!
Would love longer reviews of the albums before 2006, (I've really liked your explanations about the sounds of the songs in other reviews,) or maybe recommendations for other Melodic Rock bands or something like "Proud Desperado"?

I’m glad you’ve discovered Winger and hope you find more by the band that you like. Since this is an album ranking it’s not really meant as a review for each album. The longer reviews are for new albums just released. Occasionally I’ll go back and do a Classic Album Review but generally I don’t review older albums. There just isn’t a call for it.

Totally agree with Pull. For me it’s a no-doubter. I’d have to sit and give a re-listen to the catalog to rank the rest but I think I may have Seven up closer to 2 or 3. It was kinda weird that Winger included Purple Haze on their debut. The same time Ozzy did Purple Haze on that Stairway To Heaven/Highway to Hell record. For me Winger was a slow build. It wasn’t until Pull when I finally got it. Even though in one of my art classes I recreated the debut album art. Good ranking video. Looking forward to the next!

Heart of the Young will always be on top for me. I remember how my school friends were going crazy about Dream Theater but dismissed the level of Winger's brainy hard rock (influenced unfortunately by Metallica's dart and Beavis & Butthead). This band is pure class! Excellent video as usual Brendon.

Great vid! I got hooked on Winger with the debut & it is still my favorite. I too love the Pull album & think it was totally overlooked because of grunge, the Metallica stuff, & Beavis & Butthead. Junkyard Dog is still one of my favorites from the band. As for the newer albums I have only heard a few tracks & just ordered 7 after your review a few days ago. Will definitely be looking for IV, Karma, & Better Days Comin. They also have a live album that I've heard bits of that I plan to pick up. Too bad that the band got such a bad rap, as they are very talented.

Pull is easily my 2nd favourite album, love the heaviness on it. New album is excellent, really enjoying it at the moment.

I love Winger. Top 5 band of all time for me. Thank you for doing a ranking. I too honestly love all their albums so this is a tough one but here it goes for me:
    1. Winger S/T ...I discovered them via the debut of the Madelaine video so this is dear to my heart. Time to Surrender and Hangin' On which are deep tracks are two of my faves
    2. Pull....this just is a masterpiece start to finish and combines the melodic with the heavy. Junkyard Dog, Blind Revolution Mad, Spell I'm Under, No Man's Land ECT ECT!
    3. In the Heart of the Young...this album has so many great deep tracks like the title track, The Day We'll Never See, Rainbow in the Rose plus the catchy hits like Easy Come Easy Go
4 Better Days Comin'....So Long China, Queen Babylon, the three singles, Storm in me.. this I have played over and over in my car. I love the title track because it's so uplifting and fun.
    5. Seven...this might be higher next time I rank them as I only got it a few days ago but already I'm loving it and like you said there's so much more to discover on this. I love all the songs with Proud Desperado, Resurrect Me, Heaven's Falling, Stick the Knife in and Twist, Time Bomb as current faves
    6. Karma.. another great album. Stone Cold Killer, Deal with the Devil and Witness some of my faves on it.
    7. IV Your Great Escape is my fave track. While I do still love this album it's a little bit just too progressive for my tastes.

You don't sound like a Winger fan to me. No offense intended. You are too critical. A true Winger fan understands their backgrounds and their writing progressions. Purple Haze absolutely kicks ass and is a very refreshing cover. Totally sounds like Winger to me. Their songwriting progression has gotten better over the years. To me, the first 2 albums are straight forward and too simple for what they are capable of. A lot of pop songs in there. I love them but I think they get better as they get older. So, I will post my 7 down to #1.
#7 - Winger IV (good album as they all are. highlights for me are "On a day like today" and "Livin' just to die")
#6 - In the Heart of the Young ( Highlights are: Rainbow in the Rose and Easy come, Easy Go)
#5 - Winger debut (amazing record, lots of energy and badass rockery. Highlights: Hungry, Headed for a heartbreak)
#4 - Karma (this album is just in your face. They play Pull me Under at every show. One of Kip's favorites. Highlights: Pull me Under, Always within me)
#3 - Better Days Comin' - (Easily the best 7 song stretch Winger has ever put together. From Track 1 to Track 7. Outstanding. Kip's favorite live song is on this one......"midnight driver of a love machine". and one of my fave Winger songs of all time: "Ever Wonder")
#2 - Seven - This album is incredible. The band sounds better than ever and their songwriting has really climaxed at this stage.
#1 - Pull - This album is so good I don't know where to start. Just fell in love with the band at this point and Reb really stands out on this one.
There's my assessment, not like you asked for it. But I'm a huge Winger fan. I have seen them 7 times over the years and in 2023, they sound just as good. Their best live tracks in my opinion are from Karma, Better Days and Seven. No more pop and just great songwriting at this point. So, at least we agree on the #1. LOL

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but even Kip Winger talks highly and is very proud of their recent accomplishments. The first 2 albums were all fluff and I don't think they really stretched the limit on their songwriting because I think they were tailoring their sound to what was hot at the time. I think Pull and the last 3 albums are who they really are. Just my opinion. that's all.

Yes John Kalodner attempted to create a resurgence by signing several glam Metal bands but nothing happened. Kiss is not Glam Metal. Vince re-joining Motley Crue produced one of the worse albums of the 90’s that has no ties to Glam Metal. David Lee Roth & Van Halen are from the 70’s and not Glam Metal even if they did influence it. Def Leppard had a hit with Promises in 1999, but one hit does not equal a resurgence. I’m referring to when people stopped dissing the genre, bands began to be able to make a living from touring again, and album sales picked up. I do know my facts.

It doesn't matter if motley Crue decided to put out a crappy album, it's the fact that they rejoined with Vince and a record labels realized that there is money to be made by them playing in front of larger crowds again.
That's called a 10-year music cycle. Pretty much all of those bands from that era reformed and started making good money again.... That's a resurgence. When and where did it start? Late 1996... And was all over the magazines in 1999.
John Koladner wasn't trying to make these artists platinum-selling artist again, although that would have been nice, he was just trying to suggest hey? Maybe some of these bands can still sell 100,000 or three hundred thousand copies or three hundred thousand copies or maybe 500,000 copies for some of the bigger ones.
Aside from promises Def Leppard also had two additional radio hits off of that euphoria album paper Sun and day after day.
Successful world tour but all of their tours are successful.

Totally disagree. I think Seven may be the best winger record of all. Guess you still need to listen/digest it more. lol It's only weakness is that it doesn't have the greatest production. Especially the drum sound.

Have you heard any of their recent stuff ? They’ve been unfairly maligned for reasons unclear. Stellar band that is a lot heavier then you probably realize.

I'm not a hair metal fan, but I'd not call it crap. It had its time and something new came in. I just wasn't a fan of the portrayal of women as toys. But among it all is some great music and talented artists.
