i use plain soft steel rod, or copper rod or alum rod without the tube. i dont think ive cracked any handles but i cant remember.. although i would think that the tubing actually prevents the peened rod from actually holding the wood together, arent you just peening to the thickness of the tube which can slide freely within the wood? or am i missing something? good start though
Hey Dusty, greetings from New Zealand, so I found this, really like that look, I'm keen to try making a Nessmuk style knife (are you familiar?) and those pins would be perfect, my biggest problem might be getting the copper pins! Anyway, good video mate, keep it up..
have you cracked many handles without using the tubing? I have not pinned my handles yet.. I was thinking of oiling the wood at the pin holes real good with linseed oil to maybe soften it up for the pins?
Can't find hardwood for handles at Lowe's they are oak 1 fourth by 2 inch by 4 foot long tractor supply has brass welding rods 10 one foot rods for 10 dollars

Walter white is from breaking bad. Hehe. I know you corrected it later in the video
Thank you!
I’d chuck those pins into a drill and run it on the file/paper 😎

turn your pins in a hand drill with the trigger locked back and shape pin with a file
You can get a 3 foot piece of 1/4" brass rod at ace hardware for 12 bucks and you are using the file backwards
