This car hasn't been out for too long and yet I'm seeing them everywhere. Great move VW. They're selling spectacularly well and I think it's one of the best designed small SUV's on the market right now
Although it has nothing to do with the price of the VW the lexus nx is a crossover and looks a million times better, but yet again its 3x times the price.
For real ? Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur, Seat Arona, Skoda Kamiq, Nissan Juke, Ford Puma look better than that low cost T Cross. I don't understand people who love Volkswagen for the design...
@@maxd7718 most cars you mentioned arent well built and they're full of plastic just like the VW...
I strongly disagree. The 2008 looks like a cockroach, it's the ugliest car I've ever seen. Juke has enormous visibility issues, and it's Nissan so it will fall apart. Puma looks cool, but it just feels like it's copyigg Hyundais Kona, and I would much rather go for Hyundai than Ford. I can't comment on seat or Skoda as I don't see those brands where I am from.
No it doesn’t
2020 car.. but no parking sensor as standard? Wow! Brilliant!!
CanYouSeeMeTM The 2020 Audi A6 doesn’t even have them as standard. :) VAG rules!
People who aren't able to park a small car like this shouldn't be allowed to drive anyway.
True innovation!
@@mulsanne1 Not!
@@joshbacon8241 dude I'm just joking :)
All these years of watching carwow and I'm still surprised some cars don't come with reverse sensors as standard
Get better at driving, never had one , never need one, and not a camera either for that matter
That's orange interior and wheels just looks sooo tacky. What are they trying to be? Boy racer?
X Blocky i also don’t like this orange dash. And it cost a lot! More black with grey if you like ia the way to go. I also dont like at all that orange wheels that are also very very expensive.
The orange dash and wheels are actually optional and don’t came as standard on none of the cars
The dash reminds me of a DS3 racer
Looks cool to me
Cool.Nope. Poor man's Tiguan. Retiree's car he always promised himself.
Mat’s muscles are growing big with every review. Btw, excellent videos.
It's an incredibly smart looking car. Saw a few ones already. Well done.
you guys should film the moment that you get in and out of the car from the outside. An important thing in my opinion to see. So you can exactly see how low you need to go to step in or out. (I am a lower back patient :P)
Cool review Mat! Greeting from Croatia was cool to meet you at Frankfurt Motor Show 😀
One major issue that everyone seems to miss including VW conveniently, is that the T cross only has 40 litre fuel tank capacity. That's a smaller tank than some smaller cars. Meaning filling up more often and less range of miles. It's a major flaw and vw doesn't even mention it on its brochure.
On a 3 cylinder petrol a 40 litre is more than enough. I've a 4 cylinder polo with about same tank capacity and it will do 700 KMS easy on a tank.
They have black color now and a black T Cross looks like a beast, very stylish looking suv
I like the blue, but why is this car so EXPENSIVE?!
Finally something I can afford is being reviewd on carwow
Sorry I was going to hit a like
But I can even afford a Toyota Yaris
Your a fuckin guy who cannot handle spenting money
Yes, sometimes I get tired of that continuum of expensive german cars.
@@meryuk I guess the rich people also watch carwow. We can't ignore them and dreaming is always nice. Even if you haven't got the money and are intersted in cars you can just watch them for fun and see what you would like to buy IF you were lucky in the lottery or something.
@@Firemarioflower Of course. But, I guess I wouldn't buy them even then. Except maybe a porsche. I really don't like the german cars, I don't even fancy them. Not that it matters.

@@Mr.MinecraftPants the Beats Audi whilst better than the standard, it's still hot shit!
Listening to Matt, other than some plastics disappoint, there is really nothing bad to say about it. It may not be fast but it has enough for town and most journeys, carries a lot, has nice seats, a compliant tide, good visibility and whilst the Orange may not suit everybody, it has style and interest. It is a good car... a very good car for everyday family use and that is a rare things nowadays..most small cars are not really very nice at all. As Matt says...BUY it!!!😀😀

@@gordonnorris4202 i kind of have an ethical problem with adblock. I do not complain that there are ads or anything, i respect that, i was just surprised. Take a small car...Jack it up little and the price tage reaches 20k.
Wow those car manufacturers really knows how to make money!!!
For me,it is the best looking compact Suv of all of its competitors
My Grandparents love this car! Small SUVs are the perfect cars for old people and I think VW did a great job here
no...
nope 🤡
Easy for old people to get in and out of. Never thought of it before, but this totally makes sense.
That's useful to know. I'm looking for a car that my mother can easily get in and out of despite reduced mobility.
Urgh. Orange interior with brown seat trim. It’s like sitting in my nan’s front room.
Brown wheels too. 😂
Your nan has style!
Well at least I looks different and not like sitting in a black coal scuttle like everything else.🙂

Standard vw bias. Newer updated 2008’s are miles better than this expensive crap.
@@jonm9501 do you own an 2008?
I own one and trust me quality-wise they are very very low!
Theodore Argiaditis I do own one yes, the quality on mine is excellent and that’s after I’ve owned a Leon, A3, Skoda Yeti amongst others. I can’t comment on your car, I’m sorry you aren’t happy with it like but my personal experience has been excellent.
The rear small compartment is actually for rear AC vents which is an option in some countries
Love this guy’s humor, review is informative AND entertaining.
Geez CUVs just keep coming offering less and less. So much profit for these automakers. Just get a Polo/Golf and save. Polo/Golf is faster, more efficient, more attractive, less money, less orange, better dynamics, ect.
Blake Swan less orange 😂😂😂😂
To be fair. Energetic orange is a great color on the polo. I'm not loving it on the Tcross though. Might have something to do with those orange wheels 😂
Non-petrol heads keep buying into this nonsense so car makers just continue pumping them out
I'd rather bike without a chain than drive a polo
these small SUVs are perfect for people with disabilities or those who are expecting to start a family soon as the increased height and smaller size makes it much easier to park in congested areas or in smaller driveways the increased ride height (as someone with some troublesome mobility issues) is a definite requirement for many people as its easier to get in and out of and personally I have seen many people think small SUVs are much better at stopping the neds from breaking into cars for any valuables inside as many of them won't be able to see into the car clearly
Not a big fan of vw but I dig that seat design. Wish other manufacturers would dedicate more attention to the upholstery styling.
Coincidental Easter egg in this entire video, Mat wearing a POLO tee.
Is it only me or does this look very much like the Jeep Renegade/Fiat Panda?
Yes.its only you
@@francisjoves2583 thank you for replying, I appreciate the time and labor you used to share your opinion with me.
Not at all, looks like a mix of a Polo and a Tiguan
Fiat panda is at least functional
From which angle?
i really like the car and i think it looks awesome, except the wheels, but i dont understand why people are hating it.
I’ve just bought an old Volvo V70R and I absolutely love it, I’ve no idea why I’m here
Don’t see at all what’s annoying about the volume buttons on one side of the steering wheel and change tracks on the other, I have this on my polo and am just completely used it/didn’t know it was unconventional 😂
Carwow popup feels exciting ever time
It looks hideous. Especially the orange alloys.
It looks awesome on the road...those wheels don't, but there are much better ones available.
@@kraenk12 The entire thing is a gnome. It's the same problem with the Mokka X.
True
@Geinsful it's not exactly beautiful but it's way better looking than the T-Cross.
Great video, thanks. That little cubby hole when you’re seated in the back isn’t for a mobile phone - that’s always superglued to an adolescent’s hand. 😆 No, it’s for the AirPods the case sits in there nicely and can be charged from the USB port just below. 👍 I’ve just bought a T-Cross in United trim in brilliant white with the DSG7 box. It looks fantastic and drives like a dream. Highly recommended!
So that empty space is where the rear air-con vents are placed in the India-spec T-cross (called the Taigun)
It looks amazing, I really hope to get one after finishing uni. The 2021 model rocks all the points on my checklist.
Mat's making interesting reviews for a normal VW vehicle
We don't have the T-ROC here in Brazil, so VW change the aproach on this SUV, using as base the VW Virtus (Polo sedan) with a wheelbase 8cm longer than the Polo. So the Brazilian version is longer than the European version with more space for the rear passengers. We also have a different version in the 1.0 TSI engine with 128hp using ethanol. The car does not use the DSG gear, but a common but excellent automatic gear from Aisin, a company of the Toyota group.
I'm watching this absolutely drunk.
Please, don't drive in this condition.
heck thats the only way to enjoy a car like this
At the end when he says BUY IT you can see on his face he is not convinced
German theory on cars. Yes makes the polo bigger but let's make it cheaper in side
gotta love how mat isn’t all whiny over the hard plastics in the cabin when in other cars, he complains so much
6:06 With the highest trim of the Volkswagen T-Cross, the backseat AC would be there.
Delion Broderick Yeah I’m surprised he didn’t figure that out. It was obvious to me. It’s just a plastic piece they can stick there to save money on the lower spec cars that don’t have rear vents there.
Matt changing his shirts between All Saints and Ralph Lauren. Fashionable guy!
And his shorts
Hey Matt you are working out 😜💪
American here. Literally what is the difference between the T-Roc and the T-Cross??? They look E X A C T L Y the same.
David Chernack sorry, but I think these models are completely diferent in terms of design, interior and size.. T-Roc is based on Golf.. T-Cross is based on Polo.. C-Pilars are totally diferent as well as the rear.. Pics and videos may give a different idea from what they really look like.. cheers!!
tbh Seat Arona is much much better value... you're paying for the brand here
Love my T Cross but there a couple of things that drive me batshit! The Lane Assist is crap and it’s completely ridiculous that it can’t be permanently disabled. The other infuriating feature is the notification system where it beeps to alert you to something and the message flashes up on your dash display for a nanosecond and is gone by the time you actually look at the screen. I got a new strange one the other day and managed a glimpse of a new symbol which vanished before I could take it in or read what it said! Sort it out VW!
…oh, and another annoying function discovered during the current heatwaves. The car randomly switches on the AirCon when it gets very warm in the car. If I want the AirCon on, I’ll switch the bloody AirCon on!
I find it somewhat weird that this car is apparently referred to as a small car. 🤔
That “storage compartment” on the back of the center console is probably where rear air vents are supposed to go on higher optioned trims.
What are the advantages of soft touch plastic vs hard plastic? I'm guessing the hard stuff is more durable and it's not as if you are banging your head against it all day long.
The advantage of soft touch is that everything feels nice rather than being all scratchy and horrible to touch.
Padded plastics are better for dampening road noise..insulate .
Bought the car today with all packages possibly included. Everything LED and the engine is a 1.0 TSI 95HP. Drives really great, feels like an SUV. And the space is bigger than I expected. Highly recommended. The only downside is the hard plastic in the front of the car.
Is the 95 enough? Is it a lively engine?
@@EddyCJ826 no, it's not enough.
@@EddyCJ826 I have vw t cross 2022 the 95HP is plenty if you are not the type to pretend your car is race car. I haven't had any issue going uphill.
without the VW quality upgrades, just get an arona, as it's better spec'd for the price, and has better engine options.
Or just get a polo, doubt you'll ever take it offroad anyway
I agree that the Seat is a better choice

Hi. Test drove a T-Cross. Was average quality. One thing that annoyed was the vibration felt in the steering wheel on take off, from the engine. I did not want to feel that for the next 5 years. Drove the Skoda Kamiq next. Yes, same running gear, but no vibration. Also better quality. Would have loved a nice 2L engine.

-after 3 months already required a steering column change under warranty. A problem re occured and now local dealer is waiting fromVW for a solution. Constant clicking sound from steering wheel.

Autogefuehl :)
Matt here serving us his hardwork on those benches 🤴🏻😜
8:25 - Surely there must be a reason as to why no T-Cross - even the R-Line range topper - is available with leather seats, even as an option, other than to "appease the vegans"?
And also, why isn't the 150PS 1.5 TSI Evo offered on UK-spec T-Crosses like it is on the SEAT Arona?
In VW land, leather seats are very expensive, I'm talking £2000 so nobody ever gets them. I'm a VW salesman and I've never seen even a T-Roc ordered with leather seats, which you can get. They're just too expensive relative to the cost of the car
Low powered engines and limited spec makes this seem much more like a Skoda than a VW product!
@@ottermanuk It's oddly specced but not badly. It's the only car in class that has blind spot detection and auto emergency braking as standard, also from the SE has adaptive cruise control. Interesting that it doesn't have parking Sensors as standard, though neither does the Polo.
I dont know man, the 1.5 Evo would be really good, and also the 1.6 115 diesel, not this 1.6 95hp which is reaaly underpowered.
@@EasyPCUK Which other options on VWs do people never go for? On any model?

What’s everyone’s issue with this car? Seems like great value, and I think the interior design is pretty cool, also, I usually think VWs are pretty ugly (namely the golf and polo), but their jacked up vehicles look great.

Carwow makes a video of a Laferrari vs Lamborghini Aventador SV vs Porsche GT3 RS vs Tesla Model 3
I like the orange color in the interior and on the rims
I think the hole on the central armrest it's because the Brazilian version of the t-cross an polo have rear air vents coming out of the central console
2:54 was that car in neutral because there was no one inside?? :-D
We have one - purchased over the SEAT, Audi stable mates and Opel Crossland mainly for looks and its very quiet drive - the el-cheapo plastics were a concern, but 2 months into ownership, it really is a fantastic car - done town, country and long motorway trips, all no issue. The seats are great and the fun factor really is there, you can hussle this car along - would say ours is way better performance wise due to the DSG box over manual tested here, ours is way faster than expected (115 hp version). The penny pinching on grab handle deletion and no rear arm rest bug me more than the cheap dash plastic as I never touch it ! I think it should have and probably will have a GTi version as it is much, much more competent on the twists than it has any right to be and a 4x4 R would have me talking to Mr. Bank for some extra dosh to get one :)
PS - the orange interior one is as horrid in the flesh as it looks in this test !! - ours is boring grey (yes we do loose it in car parks ha ha )
this suv trend has got to go
Honestly I prefer a mid-size SUV like a XC60 or sedans in general
only SUVs that can remain are those, that aren't weak (Like Q5 has reinforced chassis, permanent AWD and so on)
Unfortunately when you get past your boy racer says and become a family man- SUV’s make a lot of sense - space to carry stuff, practical for car seats etc. I kind of agree , but I am crossing to the dark side soon as I like the Peugeot 3008. Not many hatchbacks and sedans that are actually attractive - unless you go German and they are of kind of.. well boring aren’t they? Audi’s are really the boy racer car of choice these days, !BMW’s and Mercs are also really not that interesting either... and then you have VW’s like this...not great either.
@@richgl31 estates and people carriers exist for a reason, these mini SUVs are just for people "bigger = better"
Anyau! Unless you have specific dimensions in which to park(like me) an estate won’t fit and mpv’s are for big families and tend to be quite ugly. I do think SUV’s have their place and beyond subjective aesthetics are quite practical. I think the real issue is the association of who are the main users; and as stated that depends what stage of life you are at. At 18 I would not have wanted one.
Have bought mine end of january.Done over 3000 miles and absolutely love that wee car.Had previously a Golf and cant complaint at all.It is not a fast car(despite the Active version i got😎😁) but put smile on your face and it is still VW.Drivers car.Plus my small family adore it too☺️

I like it, i think it will be alright as a first car. Also cheap to insure (group 8)
One moment to thank VW for giving us manual transmission 👌🏽👏🏾👏🏾
They are doing it because it's cheap, the dsg is prolly the better option in this car. This is no GTI it's a wimpy 1L 3 cylinder. I had a Golf with this engine and it would constantly stall, then got a 1.6 diesel which was much more usable, though still slow.
@@paulzapodeanu9407 well yes that's true. However from the lousy engine and other bits at least for someone like me I can comfort myself with changing gears in a $25000 2020 car.

Parking sensors is a must for any car these days..watching this in 2022!
So, we've got an offroad looking car that can't go offroad, the interior is full of plastic, it has a weak engine, doesn't come well equipped unless you throw loads of money at it and the body shape makes it very uneconomical. @@JesperHolmgaard It does 46 according to VW and we all know it will never reach that value. The Polo does 50, and while it is also not true it shows that the T-Cross is nothing more than a less economical Polo made for people with low self esteem.
