Four years later, still one of the most useful Studio One videos on UA-cam: thanks Gregor, almost all these techniques are now locked in to my workflow.
Using Dual screens... Greg could u ask the ppl to plz make the "editor" & "mixer" windows "SNAP" like regular programs in WINDOS 10 ?? (e.g. like 'Magnet App' from App Store for MAC OS)
Gregor - You are a beast with this software. I've watched several of your videos and now I look for your content. I subscribed a while ago but life of recording took me into habits that as you say: "Please don't do that". I know why you said that and I thank you for it. Your content is helping me in all aspects of my work flow and correcting my in efficiencies. Thank you for your kindness and talent that you share so freely.
Brilliant, Gregor, you're making me a boss in Studio One 5!! I'd already installed Zoom Overview macro, it's funky but now i can zoom all like a ninja!
Gregor, you're the Boss! These are all the things I've been frustrated about recently and have been too lazy to figure out on my own. Keep up the good work!!!
Gregor, can you tell us what gears do you use in your studio (what mic, cameras, audio interface, controller ... ). Can you make a little video about this?
Great video Gregor I am quite new to Studio One (24 months in ) always a pleasure to learn from you. These functions I must learn, going to save a lot of time .
Grigor, SHFT+S (zoom to selection) + Sync Editor to Arrangement and SHFT+ALT+LClick zoom select box Two freaking awesome ways to work I never knew about and I've used S1 since version 1 - I was one of the guys using click+drag in the timeline (a lot of 'experts' also recommended this for years which is hilarious that they didn't know about this other zooming tools)!!! You da man, my boy. Cheers!
Not only are Gregor's tutorials incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, but the music he has up on Spotify kicks ass as well! Thanks for all you do, Gregor!🤘😎
Whenever you think you know all of the ways to be efficient, Gregor steps in and shows you who's BOSS! I have to watch these videos a few times to figure out what is best to incorporate into my workflow, which macro key (on my Logitech gaming Keyboard I'll use), and program the necessary things. Thanks for this one, Gregor!
This is the best tutorial ever!!! Thank you! i hate recording because navigating was hard to learn. i still have lot to learn. Im such more eager to record and make music!!!!!! Thank You!
not just a lesson in shortcuts but macros too!!. mind blown, zoom has been a real issue for me.. no more timeline drag for me!!.. ps: the production value has improved so much from just 6mths ago.. great job
Super useful. One question: how do you know when you're making new keyboard commands as you show in the video that you're not overwriting an existing one?
i love studio one. ive used a lot of daws and by far studio one is the most enjoyable and the most easiest thing to use. cant tell u how many times i thought of something to do and was going about it way harder then i shouldve. some stuff was hard or took a lot of steps in other daws, i went into it thinking its gonna be hard and then studio one just slaps me in the face with a easy proccess. i feel like this daw was tailored to me........ appreciate everything Gregor!!!!
Lots of great information in this tutorial Gregor!, your videos are getting better and better every time. One additional way I sometimes zoom around is using the Encoder control on the Faderport.
Of course, the only times I'm actually able to do what you are doing in S1 is when you are are saying "please don't do this!!" For the 1st few minutes of the video, all you needed to do was throw in a few colorful words to compliment the spastic mouse and timeline movements and it could have been my studio.. :) Great content as always!
Best video EVER! Well, all of your videos are excellent, but this one is very helpful. BTW that vocal that you played on the zoom select to track (and has been in other videos too), is that Romy Madley Croft from The XX? Sounds like her.
DANG! I thought you were gonna talk about ZOOM...you know like video conferencing! LOL! NO really sweet stuff here! really appreciate your expertise ! Gregor, you jam pack very clearly and distinctly in these tutorials! Great stuff, I have to bookmark this one for sure!!
Brilliant Gregor, Ive been looking for a video instruction as StudioOnes help page is hard for me to scroll though. The only key sequence I created before was to fit the timeline to the contents which is a useful option which as opposed to moving the mouse contently Thanks so much for this excellent video.
@@presonus Hey Gregor, If one using Mac, he can also use zoom features in accessibility tab from settings viz, holding ctrl and scroll to zoom and holding opt+ctrl to toggle zoom it is very easier, customisable and helpful...I just found it in settings so thought of sharing as a add on with your awesome tutorials...love what you are doing keep sharing and helping us..god bless
I wish S1 had more features for post-production audio because that last macro is so darn handy for post-audio editing. Only seeing the tracks that are actually in a scene with a macro is huge
Excelent! I wonder if could be MIDI shortcuts instead (or aditionally) Keyboard shortcuts. It would be great t use controllers or even certain notes from the midi keyboard controller.
This is one of your true golden nuggets Gregor...... I'll be adding some of those to my user section on the Atom SQ which I love On that note I was looking for a better way to scroll with the Atom SQ. I can use shift with an encoder to scroll the play head but that doesn't really work as is like. Any Pro tips on setting that up?
ok, first impressions up until 2:25 I have done all of those zooming techniques and I feel so uncomfortable doing all of them. I stopped here and waiting for the new zooming techniques! ok, wouw I didn't know that there was a vertical slider! now I know and I also will never ever use it. CTRL !!!!! AND SHIFT !!! AWESOME!!! 10 minutes later after learning sooo much, am I ready to zoom like a boss? dammmmm! what is there more??? I couldnt make it work the last macro, maybe because I have studio 4? thank you so much for this tutorial, you have improved on your tutorial creation
Not sure about others but, for me at least, Reset Song View does not close floating Editor / Mixer or 'anything that is detached'. Only closes plugin windows. I may be doing something wrong. Also found that when I used the Only Show Tracks in Loop Range macro, it worked fine on first command but, when I toggled back, it extends my loop range to the entire song (likely related to another setting I've missed though)
S1 is probably my favorite Software! I do miss a more differentiated functionality of track zooming though. For example: After expanding envelop-tracks, selecting a single one could automatically enlarge it (as an option). Also: I would love to have a shortcut to enlarge selected tracks to a custom size, rather than enlarging all tracks or focusing on one track entirely.
Gregor - Awesome tutorial. But I do wish that Presonus would allow me to assign my own command to the excellent "magnifier glass" by allowing CTRL-Mouse Drag - like like a host of other apps out there. This is a holdout from Photoshop and Wavelab who use this standard command set to instantly zoom in on an event etc. But make us do SHIFT-ALT (I am on Windows) is clunky and very hard (for me anyway) to get used to. If I could just reassign that to CTRL-Drag - it would be golden!
great vid i feel S1 can be so overwhelming at times because i be wanting to take advantage of all the shortcuts available..needed this for sure as well
Hi Benngiie, don't forget how efficient you can be already if you just Drag and Drop items or ranges, sometimes with a modifier key thrown in there. That's already 80% of the way! The rest is just bonus. Maybe make it a habit to learn or assign one new shortcut a day - You'd be surprised how fast you can become as a Producer in just a few weeks. -GBY
That last macro is amazing. Now, does it apply to the console also. I'm using a studiolive 32 as a controller, so it would be nice to have only the used tracks on the screen and, at the same time, only the corresponding faders on the mixer! 😎😎
What would we do without this German Elijah Wood? Surely, a gift to humanity. Awesome tutorial, as always. When, at 10:17, he said we hadn't even scratched the surface of the topic, I thought it hard to believe. How much more can there be to zooming? I stand corrected.
great video but the general scrolling steps on windows for CTRL + Scroll are just way to big and no way of changing it. Hope that's something to be addressed soon. Also nice macro at the end! But is there a way to make it toggle back to unhidden tracks? Now I have to manually enable them again if I want to go back out of that mode.
Hi Shebbe, you can use either “Undo Visibility Change” or “Show all Tracks”. As far as scrolling on Windows is concerned, we’re seeing a great variance in experience depending on which mouse is being used. Some seem to behave a lot smoother than others. -GBY
HI Gregor. That was very useful. Thanks. I was wondering: is there a way to expand the Zoom Overview macro with the added functionality of hiding the mixer and hiding automation? The mixer can be toggled on/off with '3' and automation with 'A' but the macro has no way of knowing what the current state is. I'm trying to make the Zoom Overview macro always show the full arrangement window, without mixer and automation, regardless of whether or not the mixer and/or any automation was previously showing. Thanks.
Answering my own question (partially): This can be done with the State argument for the commands. This works as expected for the console but the 0 state for Show Envelopes has no effect. Not sure what's going on there....
Mega Workflow-Tutorial, Gregor!

Hi Kisnou, can you specify what you want to do? It's quite likely that we already have the keyboard shortcuts you are looking for. Try assigning "Show I/O Connections" or "Show Input Controls" in the Keyboard Shortcuts and see if that does what you want. Also try "Song Setup". Can you specify what you mean by "Midi/Audio Track Templates"? -GBY
Gregor, you deserve to go home each night knowing you have done good in the world. Your tutorials are superb: engaging, and useful.
Agree
When Gregor does an 18 minute video on zooming, you know it's gonna be a good one.

I legit thought this was going to be about livestreaming Studio One over Zoom. 2020 has broken me. Still, this is good too.
Disappointed at first- Gregor makes up for it by the end. 👍🏼
@Doctor Slaps same
dude that's why I was here for too hahahah
I also thought this, because it does not work out of the box...
Hang in there man... this will be over soon now that the vaccine is on the street!!!
Congrats, I think this is by far the most beneficial video yet on navigation in Studio One

Wow, this video really helps a lot especially a beginner like me... thanks Gregor!

I believe the menu will tell you if you select something already in use.
Great info man thx!!
Thank you Gregor, awesome tips as usual. Can't wait for the next one.
Great tip, but can you adjust the speed of the scrolling, because most of times I find it to go too fast.
Gonna watch this a bunch of times. Thanks GB.

REALLY. NEEDED. THIS. Thank you Gregor!!!!!!!
the one thing i was hoping to see in this video - is it possible to change the sensitivity of how responsive it zooms when pressing CMD and scrolling?
Really cool! Should Rest Song View close the F2 editor window? It doesn't for me when I use it.
